4 . Artificial intelligence (人工智能) is set to benefit mankind in many ways. It will make everyday tasks easier and bring efficiency to many industries. It might be one of man's greatest inventions.

And yet, like any other technology, AI will also bring risks. In February 2018, a group of AI experts got together to discuss the possible disadvantages of AI. What they found was that "Every AI developed by the good guys is also helpful for the bad guys, too." according to Quartz.

Their biggest worry was that the bad guys could use AI for bad things. One of the areas they looked at was the use of AI to create websites that could be used to steal people's personal information. Another possibility is that AI programs could be used to hack software and break into computer secure systems (安全系统).

There are some other worries as well. It is possible that AI could be used to create fake imagines and videos. Baidu, in fact, has developed a program called Deep Voice that can "clone (克隆)" anyone's voice by studying a 3.7-second audio sample (音频样本).

Many leading people have expressed worries about AI. People like Bill Gates and Elon Musk have called for the industry to be more strictly controlled, as there are few laws right now on the use of AI.

7 . As more information comes out about 10-year-old Cindy Smith’s death(死亡), worries about amusement park safety(游乐场安全性) grow.

Cindy is not the first child who died on an amusement park ride. 25 years ago, the mother of a 14-year-old girl waited to pick up her daughter outside Worlds of Fun. Laura Barry never saw her daughter Rosie alive again.

“My heart goes out to the Smith family more than they can ever possibly know,” said Barry. She is one of the few people who truly know the hurt that family is feeling.

In 1995, Rosie’s mom said that something went wrong on the Timber Wolf the night Rosie died. Police found no evidence(证据). Two men told the police that they saw Rosie standing before she fell out of the car.

“I couldn’t believe that such a thing could happen still and again,” said Barry. She believes Rosie’s death should have been a wakeup call for amusement park safety.

She finds that not much has changed in the past years. Amusement parks race to build bigger, taller, faster rides. In her opinion, amusement parks just try to bring in visitors and give them the idea that riding is good, safe and fun. She believes that parks should have put safety first.

There is no exact number of amusement park deaths each year. It is quite low according to some websites. But Barry doesn’t accept that. “My daughter was the only person that had ever been killed at Worlds of Fun in all of the years, among all of the thousands and thousands of people that went there. 8 . At the start of each summer, the sounds of pianos tuning (调音) and pointe shoes (芭蕾舞鞋) tapping fill the halls of artistic prep schools(预备学校)across the country, as talented teens begin their months-long training practicing their skills.

It is easy to see students in those schools having only half-done meals and sleeping over their clothes. Such training conditions are common for the over 1 million students who take part each winter in China's Joint Artistic Examination, or yikao (艺考), for admission to arts colleges.

According to Li, a film teacher from a yikao-prep school in Xi'an, the yikao is so tough that often requires the students to totally abandon their academic subjects in the months leading up to the exam.

As a result, they can only learn as much as possible in a very short time before they take the National College Entrance Examination, or gaokao (高考), in June. “Arts students must pass both exams to be admitted to college,” he explains, as the best arts colleges “not only have high artistic requirements but high academic requirements.”

Every students preparing for yikao will face a moment of truth each winter as they perform their solos(单人表演), submit their sketches (素描) to the eagle-eyed examiners, and see if all their hard work has paid off—the destinies of arts students, says Li, are “full of uncertainty.”
