2 . It is said that all dreams serve a purpose(目的). While there is no agreement among scientists about why we dream, there are many ideas about the different kinds of dreams we have.

One common kind of dream is the repeating dream, in which the same story is repeated again and again, often for many months or even years. Some believe these are a sign people have a problem in their life and once that problem is gone then the dream will stop. Others think they are a way to help people remember something very important.

Another well-known kind of dream is the nightmare. The pictures and stories in such dreams make people very afraid and dreamers usually remember them far more clearly than normal dreams. The reasons of such dreams may be seeing something terrifying such as a car accident or some deadly snakes. Others think such dreams may be trying to make a person pay attention to something that is dangerous in their life.

Daydreams happen during wake-time when we forget where we are or what we are doing and find ourselves in a made-up story or unreal world. We often daydream when we are doing something that is not interesting or exciting. They help us think about our future.

Lucid dreams are the most fun. These happen when dreamers suddenly know that they are dreaming. Instead of waking up, they stay in the dream and are able to control what happens in the dream as if they are making a movie.

3 . Let children learn to judge (判断) their own work. A child doesn't learn to talk by being corrected all the time. If he is corrected too much, he will stop talking. He notices a thousand times a day the differences between the language he uses and the language others use. Little by little, he makes the necessary changes to make his language like other people's.

In the same way, children learn to do all the other things without being taught-to walk, run, climb or ride a bicycle. They compare their performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the changes. But in school we never give a child a chance to find out his mistakes and correct them himself. We do it all for him. We thought that he would never notice a mistake unless it was pointed out to him, or correct it unless he was made to. Soon he becomes dependent on the teacher. Let him work out with the help of other children if he wants it.

If it is a matter in math or science, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should we teachers waste time on such daily work? Our job should be to help the children when they tell us that he can't find the way to get the right answer. Let the children learn what all educated persons must learn, how to measure (估量) their own understanding, how to know what they know or do not know.

Let them get on with this job in their ways. School teachers can offer help if they ask for it. Some parents and teachers are worried that the children might fail to learn something that they will need to get in the world. Don't worry! If it is important, they will go out into the world and learn it.

1. According to the passage, the best way for children to learn things is by ________.
A.being always correctedB.following adults' advice
C.doing as other people doD.being always taught.
2. The writer thinks teachers in school should ________.

C.tell students what is wrong as often as possible

A.teachers can’t correct students’papers
B.teachers needn't waste time teaching students in class

4 . How old will you be in 2029? That is how old you will be when a large asteroid (小行星), called Apophis, comes very close to our planet. Asteroids move around the Sun in space and sometimes come close to the Earth and even hit it. Most asteroids are very small. If you are lucky, you can sometimes see them in the night sky as "falling stars".

However, most scientists believe that one large asteroid hit the Earth and killed all the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago. It was about six to twelve kilometers across. Apophis is also big. Scientists found it out in 2004 and they said that it is about 300 meters across. It is as large as a large sports field. According to scientists, such size is not large enough to destroy (破坏) our world, but it is large enough to destroy some cities. It will probably miss (未击中) the Earth in 2029, but it will come very close to the Earth. It is only about 35,000 kilometers away. That's much closer than the moon, about 240,000 kilometers away. Another way of thinking about it is that it will miss us by only a few minutes.

If you don't feel afraid, then think about this: the same asteroid will visit the Earth just a few years later. In 2036, it will visit the Earth again. Again, it will miss our planet, but again very near...The only sure thing is that all the eyes and telescopes in every country of the world will watch the skies.

A.To show how to stay away from asteroids.B.To show how to enjoy the world.

B.A strange alien (外星人) will come to the earth.
C.Apophis likes to kill small animals.

3. How does the writer feel about things that will happen in 2029?

4. What's the best title for the passage?

C.The Earth in 2036.D.The future city.

5 . For hundreds of years, scientists have been trying to answer what things have an influence (影响) on people's feelings. Many things can influence your feelings. Your feelings can be influenced by your personality (个性), by the actions of others and by the events around you. Perhaps you don't know your feelings can be influenced by the weather, too.

People often say they feel good when the sun is shining and sad when it is cloudy. In fact, sunlight makes us feel good. When sunlight reaches our skins, our bodies make a vitamin (维他命). Vitamins are natural chemicals (化学物质) which we all need to stay healthy. Sunlight helps our bodies make vitamin D. Vitamin D helps our bodies make a special chemical. This special chemical influences our brains and makes us feel happy. For example, there are long, dark winters of sunlight in Sweden and Norway, so many people in these countries often feel sad. Without much sunlight, their bodies make less vitamin D. Without enough vitamin D, their bodies make less of this special chemical which makes them feel good. To help the people in these countries feet better, special "sunrooms" with artificial (人工的) lights have been built. People can go there and get "sunlight" for an hour or two!

The weather can also influence people's feelings in other ways. Hot weather can make people angry because people feel uncomfortable when they are hot. In the same way, rain can make people angry because being wet can be uncomfortable. As you can see, the weather can have an influence on the chemicals which control our brains. Through these ways, the weather can influence our feelings. Sadly, while the weather can change us, we can hardly change the weather.

1.         may NOT influence one's feelings.

2. Vitamin D is           according to the passage.

4. What can you learn from the passage?
A.We feel good when we are in the bright cool weather.
B.All people in Norway and Sweden feel sad in winter.
C.The less vitamin you have, the happier you will be.
5. Which is the best title for the passage?
A.People Need More Vitamin D
B.We Can Hardly Change the Weather
C.The Weather Influences People's Feelings

8 . There are millions of recipes(菜谱) hidden in the boxes and hearts of grandmother and parents. These family recipes are a special part of our family history. Some of them have been passed down from generation(一代人) to generation.

“I realized I couldn't go home every weekend for my mom's delicious dishes,” says Shreya, who is about to enter university. Shreya has recently started following her mother around the kitchen, taking notes on how to make her “masala chai” and tasty kachoris.

"Those special tastes can immediately unlock a whole flood of emotions, memories and feelings of family, love, and comfort," says she.

She adds, "I am looking to the day when my kids will come to know of their grandmothers through the dishes they cooked."

But many of us find it difficult to keep the food connection with our busy life. Even if we have time, not many of us take the effort to collect and record the recipes from our grandmothers and parents. We often get a recipe on the phone and take it down quickly on a piece of paper. We just stick it onto the fridge for a week or two and forget about it as soon as the paper disappears from there.

Actually, there are simple ways to keep family recipes, Scrapbooks(剪贴薄)are easily found in the market. You can even add photos to record every detail of your memories about the recipe. With the help of some popular apps like Story Scans, recording family recipes has never been easier. What is needed is to scan(扫描) the recipes and record the story behind each of them. It can become the most meaningful work you have ever done with and for your family.

Keeping family recipes is saving and honoring our tradition so that future generations can continue to make family ties stronger.
