1 . Life comes in a package. This package includes happiness and sadness, failure and success, hope and despair. Life is a learning process. Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person. With each passing day, we learn to deal with all kinds of problems.

________ Love makes you feel wanted. Without love, a person could become cruel. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who show us with love and care. Failure is the way to success. It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a specific way. Success brings money, fame and self-respect.

Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. Hope teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hours, because after every night there is a day.

Life teaches us not to regret over yesterday, for it has passed and is out of our control. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or dark. So the only choice is to work hard today, so that we will enjoy a better tomorrow.

The main function of the Robocop is to scan and film the surroundings. Besides cameras with night vision that report 360 degrees, it also has a distress button which is located here, so if somebody is to need assistance or they want to contact the communication center, they can do it by way of that distress button. It can also help locate a lost iPhone because it is able to determine a Smartphone’s MAC address. The police can see from the robot if something wrong happens and then come and figure it out.

3 . Sign language is a kind of body language. Body language includes eye contact, walking postures, standing postures and gestures. Body language can express all kinds of thoughts and feelings. Different cultures have different body language. Here are some common gestures in different cultures.

In China, a thumb-up sign is used to praise someone for being “good”, “great” and “smart”. In America, a thumb-up sign means “It’s good” or “It’s OK” while a thumb-down sign means the opposite (相反的). But in some countries, there are other meanings. For example, in Japan, that also means “man”, “your father” and “the highest”. 4 . Although people everywhere seem to enjoy drinking coffee, they don't all have the same coffee culture. In Europe for example, coffee shops are common places for people to meet friends and to talk while they drink coffee. On the other hand, places like this were not as common in North America in the past. Instead, people in North America liked to drink coffee in their homes with friends. The coffee culture in the USA changed when Starbucks coffee shops spread across the country.

The first Starbucks coffee shop opened in 1971 in downtown Seattle, Washington, in the USA. It was a small coffee shop that cooked its own coffee beans. The coffee shop's business did well, and by 1981 there were three Starbucks stores in Seattle.

Things really began to change for the company in 1981. That year, Howard Schultz met the three men who ran Starbucks. Schultz worked in New York for a company that made kitchen equipment. He noticed that Starbucks ordered a large number of special coffee makers, which caused his great interest. Schultz went to Seattle to see what Starbucks did. In 1982, the original Starbucks own hired Schultz as the company's head of marketing(市场营销).

In 1983, Schultz traveled to Italy. The special environment of the espresso(浓咖啡) bars there caught his eyes. Back in the USA, Schultz created an environment for Starbucks coffee shops that was comfortable and casual, and customers everywhere seemed to like it. Starbucks began opening more stores across the USA. Then the company opened coffee shops in other countries as well. Today, there are more than 16,000 Starbucks coffee shops all over the world.

However, that does not mean Starbucks has not had problems. In fact, many Starbucks stores have closed over the past few years. On the one hand, this is because there were too many coffee shops competing for business in one small area. On the other hand, stores in some countries closed because the coffee culture there did not match with the "feel the same everywhere" environment offered by Starbucks.

6 . Just like any relationship, best friendships depend on trust, promise, respect and interests. When any of these elements(要素) is missing, the friendship will be hard to go on. If the trust is totally broken, you may not be able to forgive him/her.

Sometimes a friendship ends because either you or your friend gets tired of putting the heart into it. This can happen when one of you finds a new friend or even a new hobby that takes up much time. Or, perhaps you find the relationship is always going in an unhealthy way and you want some distance(距离). Other times, you simply change and want to leave each other. Sure, it seems sad at the time, but it's completely normal.

Not all friendships are meant to last forever. So, what should you do if something like this happens to you? Read on for some friendly advice.

Whatever the reason you're breaking up with your best friend is, always remember that he/she was once super important to you. Take the time to sit down and tell him/her what's going on and why. Don't send him/her an unpleasant e-mail. Don't start ignoring him/her though you're busy with your new hobby. In fact, maybe he/she has known there's a problem and would be willing to have a heart-to-heart chat. If you're not sure about wanting an end forever, you could suggest you two take a break from each other. If, after a while, you realize why you became the best friends in the beginning, you can try getting back to your former behaviors.

7 .

Lots of people love chocolate. Do you know how to make it? What does a chocolate factory look like? My class had a field trip to a chocolate factory in Toronto.

We visited an old building in ten groups. In the beginning, we put on some special clothes to make sure that we couldn’t dirty the workplace. After preparation, we went to the second floor and walked into the chocolate-making place. The floor was filled with different kinds of machines. Each machine has a different job. There are only two people working on the floor, because machines do most of the work.

In the next room, we learned about the history of chocolate making. There was a picture of the factory 100 years ago. They had more than 1,000 people working there. The factory is very different now. How greatly the technology is changing our life!

Later, we saw how machines made chocolate. We got a cocoa bean (可可豆), some powdered (粉末的) chocolate and a final chocolate. I opened the cocoa bean and tasted it. It doesn’t taste sweet at all, and it’s like dark chocolate. The best cocoa beans come from South America and Africa. Farmers dry them in the sun. Next, workers cook the beans at a high temperature. Machines took the shells (果壳) off the beans and made the beans into chocolate liquor which looks like water. Then, they put chocolate liquor and sugar together to make dark chocolate. If adding milk, they made milk chocolate. The machine made them smooth like silk.

Finally, we bought some chocolate at a shop in the factory. It was at a very low price. This field trip taught me how important technology is and I also learned a lot of knowledge (知识) about chocolate.

8 . Dear Sir/Madam,

①It is now common to go online in the home, yet a recent survey showed that ninety-five percent of parents do not know what websites their children visit. I strongly believe that a training project should be started to help parents to improve their Internet and computer skills so that they can better monitor and guide their children.

②One advantage of providing training is that it would get parents to pay more attention to their children's online activities. If they had a better understanding of the Internet, they would see the need to make sure that their children use it properly and responsibly.

③Another argument for providing training to parents is that it would allow parents to help their children with their schoolwork. These days, a lot of homework needs to be done on computers. If parents have poor computer skills, they will be of little or no help with homework, which can make them upset. Some people argue that it is good that students can work independently on computers. However, it is clear that students, especially young students, often need this kind of home support.

④Improving parents' Internet and computer skills might also be a good way or parents to improve their relationships with their children. These days, children spend a lot of their free time on computers. If parents want to be part of that free time, they need to see that playing on computers can be a fun family activity. Joining their children can help parents bridge the generation gap(代沟) between them and their children.

⑤I strongly believe that children need to be helped and guided to use the Internet in a proper and responsible way, and so training is extremely important.

Yours faithfully.

Pat Chan

9 . Sophie, a 14-year-old British girl, suddenly changed a lot in class. She lost her interest in study and often sat at her desk with her head down.

Ethan Miller, one of Sophie’s teachers, found the reason: she was bullied ( 欺凌) online. Sophie received impolite messages on her phone and on Facebook. Miller shared Sophie’s story on the website of The Children’s Society, a children’s group in the United Kingdom.

Sophie was not alone. Not long ago, Korean top star, Chui Se-ri killed herself after years of being bullied online. According to a report in September, one in three young people, in 30 countries, said they were ever bullied online. Twenty percent of those bullied students chose not to go to school because of it. The study surveyed (调查) more than 170,000 young people aged 13-24 from countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Most of them said social media, like Facebook and Twitter, are the most common places for online bullying.

At the same time, online bullying could have serious results for young people. If they are bullied   online, they may not want to ask the people around them for help. Instead, they just keep the bad feelings to themselves. That may be the reason why they choose to hurt themselves or even kill themselves.

To work out the problem, national help and public support are badly needed. The government ( 政 府 ) and schools should pay enough attention ( 注 意 ) to this problem. At the same time, training for teachers and parents to stop online bullying is also necessary.

Meanwhile (与此同时), here is some advice to keep yourself safe on the Internet. First, make sure that you show enough respect (尊重) to others, although you don’t have similar ideas, values or beliefs. Second, if you experience online bullying, the best response (反应) to a bully is no response at all. Last but not least, keep a record of anything if it shows proof (证据) of online bullying, like screenshot (截 屏). You can use this to report and stop them.
