1 . ①When it comes to Chinese students considering studying in foreign countries, many of them usually believe that life will be easy and enjoyable. Unfortunately, it’s likely that students with those beliefs will be disappointed very soon after landing at the airport.

②So, what are the problems you may have, and how can you deal with them?

③Teaching and learning styles in America are very different from those in China, requiring more critical thinking(批判性思维) and teamwork. In a normal American classroom, one project might be done by a study group in which every person has his/her own responsibility.

④So don’t worry about your language or any grammar mistakes. Just watch what other students do, and don’t be afraid to ask any questions. The discussions, or sometimes ever arguments, that your group members and you hold are likely to be the beginning of a friendship.

⑤Beside schoolwork, another important thing faced by overseas students is homesickness or loneliness. You may miss your parents’ cooking, your pets, or even your old bed. Being away from home can create bitter feelings, especially when faced with the challenges of getting used to a new environment.

⑥What I strongly suggest is to try hard to deal with these feelings. Be open to new friendships. Sign up for school activities, and give yourself permission to enjoy life at school, even if you miss home a lot. Be organized and keep a diary to check your progress. Write down three new things that you’re grateful for every evening, as well as three things you’re looking forward to every morning.

⑦Studying abroad is never simple. In fact, there will be many difficulties every day. But I’m sure you will overcome your difficulties and make your time overseas a success.

Most of us were uncomfortable with this. We couldn't fall back for more than a few inches before stopping ourselves. Finally, Judy gave it a try. She is a thin, quiet dark-haired girl who always wears big white sweaters. Judy crossed her arms over her chest, closed her eyes, leaned back, and did not stop. She looked like one of the TV ads where the model jumps into the pool.

For a moment, I was sure she was going to fall onto the floor. At the last moment, her partner grabbed(抓住) her head and shoulders and pulled her up immediately.

"Whoa!" several students yelled. Some clapped their hands. Our teacher finally smiled. "You see," he said to the girl. "You closed your eyes. That was the difference. Sometimes you cannot believe what you see. You have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other person trust(信任)you, you must feel that you can trust them too-even you're in the dark. Even when you're falling."

3 . With the development of the technology, 3D printing is becoming more and more popular. We are now able to print things such as clothing, musical instruments and even cars. People and businesses are able to create the things they need very quickly and easily by using 3D printers.

But can you imagine printing food? Some scientists are trying a new way to get the dining experience by doing this. They hope that having a 3D printer in the kitchen will become as common as the oven or blender. Scientists say that they are easy to use: you simply have to choose a recipe (食谱) and put the uncooked “food ink” into a printer. You can also change the instructions to make the food you want. This means that it would be very quick and easy to create tasty and rich meals.

Using 3D printers to create your meals would also be saving the environment. There would be less need for traditional growing, shipping and packaging processes as food products would be a lot quicker and better For example, tree leaves and insects could be turned into tasty products! Printing food could also help people who have a swallowing (吞咽) trouble. They could program the printer to print softer kinds of foods so that they would not have difficulty swallowing them.

▲       It could take away many jobs, including those for growing, shipping and packaging food. Imagine a world where there was no need for growing or producing and the same tastes could be printed from an uncooked “food ink”. Besides, traditional restaurants might lose business. Also, we have to consider: is it really possible to get everything we need from them?

As we know, cooking and eating together with family and friends has long been a traditional and enjoyable activity. It is hard to imagine a world where the pastime of cooking is dead and meals can be created at the touch of a machine.

1. The writer gives the example in paragraph 3 in order to _________.
A.show us how 3D food printing works in our daily life
B.tell us how good it is to use 3D printers to print food
C.help us to know what things we can use to print food
D.let us better understand when to use 3D food printing
2. What can be put in ▲        in the passage?
A.However, a future of 3D-printed food would cause lots of problems.
B.What’s more, 3D food printing could make people’s life much better.
C.What’s worse, people would not get the food from the 3D printers.
D.Anyway, using 3D printers could offer people more chances to find jobs.
3. What’s the structure (结构) of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1,… )
A.B.C.D.
4. The best title of passage is ___________.

4 . As a girl growing up in Oakland, Harris was attracted to nature in college, she accepted a green lifestyle, avoiding chemicals(化学物质) in her food and beauty products lo make her carbon footprint(碳足迹) less.

Later, teaching in primary schools in poor neighborhoods, she was shocked for her students not having the ideas of protecting the environment. But she also understood. “For many communities of color, these problems often seem less important because they are dealing with daily lives,” she says.

Harris decided to teach children the advantages of sustainable(可持续的) living and in 2007 set up the grassroots group Grind for the Green(G4G), an organization that educates kids about green subjects as well as providing training in entry-level green jobs. She used hip-hop music to draw more people’s attention. “We created it to make a deeper connection with the kids” she explains.

One early project was a free solar-powered(太阳能的) hip-hop concert- the first of its kind—-in San Francisco. Solar panels(太阳能板) on a mobile bus produced all the electricity, and the kids set up road stands(货摊) offering green food and drinks made in bicycle-powered blenders. The event was successful, leading to other G4G concerts and attracting concert organizers and producers who wanted to work with G4G. “We’ve been able to get close to a special field that other environmental groups couldn’t,” Harris says. “Our events are produced by young people who carry out the tasks faster and better” she adds.

6 . The Diary of a Young Girl was written by a girl named Anne Frank. It is a true experience of a teenager in wartime (World War II, 1939-1945) and it has also become a symbol of the victory of the human spirit.

Here's one of Anne's diaries.

Friday, 10 September, 1943

Dear Kitty,

Mostly whenever I write to you, there are only pleasant things to report. Actually, they are more often unpleasant than pleasant things. However, now there is something wonderful going on. Last Wednesday evening, 8 September, we sat around listening to the seven o'clock news and the first thing we heard was: "Here follows the best news of the whole war. Italy has capitulated (屈服,停止反抗)!" Italy's unconditional surrender (投降)!! "Listeners, an hour ago, I had just finished writing when the wonderful news of Italy's capitulation came in. I can tell you that I have never deposited (放下) my notes in the waste paper basket with such joy!"

Still we have troubles, too, it's about Mr. Koophuis. As you know, we are all very fond of him, he is always cheerful and amazingly brave, although he is never well, has a lot of pain, and is not allowed to eat much or do much walking. "When Mr. Koophuis enters, the sun begins to shine." Mommy said just recently, and she is quite right. Now he has had to go into the hospital for a very unpleasant operation and will have to stay there for at least four weeks. Yours,

Anne

7 . Nature is amazing! Take a close look at the world of insects(昆虫) and you will discover many unbelievable things. Considering butterflies, for example, they have beautiful, colorful wings, and perfect flying skills. On summer days, we see them flying slowly over flower gardens and wild fields.

In fact, do you know that butterflies have four stages(阶段) of lives? They begin their lives as one thing, change into another, and then another. Finally, they change into beautiful flying insects. It's true. And it's one of the wonders of nature.

First of all, there is an egg, it's usually small and colorful. A female butterfly lays an egg first. When you look at this small egg, it's hard to believe that in a few days, it will become something completely different. In time, it changes into a new life. No longer the small egg becomes a walking insect. This insect is called a caterpillar. It now has legs, eyes, a mouth and a large body. A new life has begun. The caterpillar eats, and eats, and eats. It can walk. It can see. But it is still not a butterfly.

Soon, after growing bigger, the caterpillar makes a cover for itself. It wraps(包裹) itself in this nice protective blanket and goes to sleep. This stage of a butterfly’s life is known as the "pupa" stage.

What happens next is truly amazing! After a short while, the blanket breaks and a wet, weak butterfly appears. It now has six legs, a mouth, eyes and wings. Soon the wings become strong enough, and the colorful butterfly spreads its wings and flies away. After a few weeks, this adult butterfly lays her eggs, and the cycle begins all over again.

This is just one example of the wonders of nature. Look around the natural world, and you will learn many truly amazing things.

8 . You must have heard and watched the famous TV show Sisters Who Brave Winds and Waves. Unlike other youth idol talent shows, this TV show invited thirty female artists who were born before 1990 to live together and compete with each other as well. These years, they are not as popular as those youth idols. However, since it was shown on the screen, it has won hundreds of millions of fans, flowers and compliments (赞美). But there are also negative (负面的) attention, and those brave sisters are ready to face whatever it comes ahead the roads.

There are hundreds of TV shows in China nowadays, and do you know why it is much more popular than the others? As for me, I do like some of those brave sisters. . Ning Jing was born in 1972, and many artists or actresses in her age normally have been out of public attention. But she didn’t think so, and she worked so hard to make her dream come true. She has been one of the Final Seven in the end. Another sister Zhang Yuqi, a thirty-three-year-old actress is also among the Final Seven. In my heart, she is always one of the best sisters. This beautiful direct and warmhearted sister is always ready and brave enough to face the challenges and negative attention.

On talking about the great performances about this TV show, there are too many to talk about, such as Da Wan Kuan Mian, Gentlewoman, Running to yow with all I have … Just like the lyrics (歌词)in the song Da Wan Kan Mian, Don't say no to yourself easily, you have your world, no one can define you, happiness is the true meaning.” I think they are the voice of those sisters' hearts.

For people who are over thirty or even forty years old, sometimes there will be no more dreams. However, Sisters Who Brave Winds and Waves tells us whenever it is, we can always be brave and ride winds and waves to be the best of ourselves.

9 . Just like any relationship, best friendships depend on trust, promise, respect and interests. When any of these elements(要素) is missing, the friendship will be hard to go on. If the trust is totally broken, you may not be able to forgive him/her.

Sometimes a friendship ends because either you or your friend gets tired of putting the heart into it. This can happen when one of you finds a new friend or even a new hobby that takes up much time. Or, perhaps you find the relationship is always going in an unhealthy way and you want some distance(距离). Other times, you simply change and want to leave each other. Sure, it seems sad at the time, but it's completely normal.

Not all friendships are meant to last forever. So, what should you do if something like this happens to you? Read on for some friendly advice.

Whatever the reason you're breaking up with your best friend is, always remember that he/she was once super important to you. Take the time to sit down and tell him/her what's going on and why. In fact, maybe he/she has known there's a problem and would be willing to have a heart-to-heart chat. If you're not sure about wanting an end forever, you could suggest you two take a break from each other. If, after a while, you realize why you became the best friends in the beginning, you can try getting back to your former behaviors.

10 . When you like your teachers, it's easier to pay attention to their explanations and improve your marks. When you consider your teachers as friends, you'll certainly have more respect for them. When your teachers consider you to be a friend, they'll feel more open in class and that will probably influence the classroom in a positive way. So a good relationship between students and teachers makes the classroom a very pleasant place. Now here are some tips to develop a friendly relationship with your teachers.

If you have any questions about that subject, ask them. Show them that you're interested in their subjects. That will make them notice you. But never ask questions that you already know the answers to. If your teachers realize that you are not asking real questions, they might think that you're not actually trying to learn, but only trying to make an impression (印象).

You may also talk about non-school subjects with your teachers. When you see one of your teachers in the hall, greet him/her and ask if he/she is going to that concert or if he/she has seen that movie. That way you'll show that you consider him/her as a friend. Some teachers don't like to have friendly relationships with students, but most of them are happy to chat with their students. After a while, they may start to talk with you about non-school topics in the classroom.

The rest is totally up to you. It is very easy to develop a friendly relationship with any of your teachers.
