1 . ①When it comes to Chinese students considering studying in foreign countries, many of them usually believe that life will be easy and enjoyable. Unfortunately, it’s likely that students with those beliefs will be disappointed very soon after landing at the airport.

②So, what are the problems you may have, and how can you deal with them?

③Teaching and learning styles in America are very different from those in China, requiring more critical thinking(批判性思维) and teamwork. In a normal American classroom, one project might be done by a study group in which every person has his/her own responsibility.

④So don’t worry about your language or any grammar mistakes. Just watch what other students do, and don’t be afraid to ask any questions. The discussions, or sometimes ever arguments, that your group members and you hold are likely to be the beginning of a friendship.

⑤Beside schoolwork, another important thing faced by overseas students is homesickness or loneliness. You may miss your parents’ cooking, your pets, or even your old bed. Being away from home can create bitter feelings, especially when faced with the challenges of getting used to a new environment.

⑥What I strongly suggest is to try hard to deal with these feelings. Be open to new friendships. Sign up for school activities, and give yourself permission to enjoy life at school, even if you miss home a lot. Be organized and keep a diary to check your progress. Write down three new things that you’re grateful for every evening, as well as three things you’re looking forward to every morning.

⑦Studying abroad is never simple. In fact, there will be many difficulties every day. But I’m sure you will overcome your difficulties and make your time overseas a success.

2 . ①Amy and Susan both live an average(平常的)life. They have an average house, an average job and an average family. There is really nothing special about their lives, but there is also nothing really negative(消极的)about their lives.

②However, when they are both happy, it always seems that Amy is happier than Susan. It looks like nothing can trouble Amy. She is the life of the party and always has a big smile on her face.

③ Susan can't stop thinking about this. How is Amy so happy when they both lead such similar lives? They go to the same stores, watch the same movies, even have similar schedules! How can Amy be so carefree when life is so stressful?

④Between one's daily life and personal dreams, there is no way one can be so happy and stress-free all the time. There are always a million things going on.

⑤But when Susan asks Amy about this, Amy says, " I just take life as it comes. It seems pretty easy then. "

4 . The British development group Practical Action says the best way to prepare foods for storage(储存) is at harvest(收获) time while still in the field.

Use a sharp knife to cut the fruits and vegetables off and put them on a clean place. Do not put them on the ground. Use water to clean off dirt. Usually it is better not to pick off the leaves from fruits and vegetables before storage. Without the leaves, food can become dry.

Fruits and vegetables must be cool from field heat before they are put into storage. But cooling them in water can spread fungus(菌类) in the food. A better idea is to harvest foods either early or late in the day, then leave them to cool naturally. Some fruits and vegetables must be kept at 0℃ to 4℃. Any colder, and they might go bad. Some foods need to be kept at 4℃ to 8℃ and some need to be kept above 8 ℃ for best results.

Wet the fruits and vegetables so they do not become too dry. The best time to do this is before storage. Cover the foods in plastic(塑料) once they reach the right “critical temperature(温度)” for storage. Most fruits and vegetables need the relative humidity(湿度) in storage to be kept between 85 and 95 percent.

Finally, leave space between the foods and the walls of the cold storage area so air can go around. Keep the space clean. And try not to open the doors too often.

6 . "I will think of it." It is easy to say this, but do you know what great things have come from thinking? Though we can not see, or hear, or feel our thoughts, they have great power!

Isaac Newton was seated in his garden on a summer evening when he saw an apple fall from a tree. He began to think, and tried to find out why the apple fell. Then he discovered how the earth, sun, moon, and stars are kept in their places.

A boy named James Watt sat quietly by the fireside, watching the lid of the tea kettle as it moved up and down. He began to think. He wanted to find out why the steam in the kettle moved the heavy lid. From that time he went on thinking and thinking, and when he became a man, he improved the steam engine so much that it could, with the greatest ease, do the work of many horses.

James Ferguson was a poor Scotch shepherd boy. Once seeing the inside of his father's watch and he wondered, "Why should I not make a watch? But how was he to get the materials out of which to make the wheels and the mainspring(钟表等的主发条)? He soon found how to get them. He made the mainspring out of a piece whalebone. He then made a wooden clock which kept good time. He began, also, to copy pictures with a pen, and portraits(肖像)with oil colors. Some of the wisest men in England, and the king himself, used to attend his lecture. His motto was," I will think of it. "And he made his thoughts useful to himself and the world.

8 . Experts believe that there are more than 8 million restaurants in the world today. So it might surprise you to learn that restaurants, as we know them, have only existed for a few centuries. Before 1765, there were no restaurants. That is, there were no places that provided the restaurant experience. There was nowhere in which a waiter brought you food and drink that you picked from a menu. In fact, there were no menus anywhere.

There were eating places travelers could go to centuries before that. The countryside was full of inns(旅店) that would serve food. And there were taverns(酒馆) where one could get drinks. The rich could also eat special meals prepared by private cooks. But none of them could be called a "restaurant".

A man called Boulanger changed that. In 1765, he opened a place in Paris that sold soups. On his sign he used the word "restaurant" to describe what he was selling. At that time, soups were considered something that could help "restore" (恢复) your health—in French the word "restore" is "restaurer"—so he called the soups "restaurants". Soon, people started buying Boulanger's soups even when they were not ill. And over time, people began to use the word "restaurant" to refer to a place selling soup rather than the soup itself. More "restaurants" opened in France, and people began to buy soups more often.

Later, restaurants in Paris began to serve other food besides soup. In the 1790s, menus started to appear. By the mid-1800s, there were many types of restaurants throughout the world. The United States offered coffee shops. Tea houses became popular throughout China. Paris created beautiful restaurants for the rich. 9 . With the development of the technology, 3D printing is becoming more and more popular. We are now able to print things such as clothing, musical instruments and even cars. People and businesses are able to create the things they need very quickly and easily by using 3D printers.

But can you imagine printing food? Some scientists are trying a new way to get the dining experience by doing this. They hope that having a 3D printer in the kitchen will become as common as the oven or blender. Scientists say that they are easy to use: you simply have to choose a recipe (食谱) and put the uncooked “food ink” into a printer. You can also change the instructions to make the food you want. This means that it would be very quick and easy to create tasty and rich meals.

Using 3D printers to create your meals would also be saving the environment. There would be less need for traditional growing, shipping and packaging processes as food products would be a lot quicker and better For example, tree leaves and insects could be turned into tasty products! Printing food could also help people who have a swallowing (吞咽) trouble. They could program the printer to print softer kinds of foods so that they would not have difficulty swallowing them.

▲       It could take away many jobs, including those for growing, shipping and packaging food. Imagine a world where there was no need for growing or producing and the same tastes could be printed from an uncooked “food ink”. Besides, traditional restaurants might lose business. Also, we have to consider: is it really possible to get everything we need from them?

As we know, cooking and eating together with family and friends has long been a traditional and enjoyable activity. It is hard to imagine a world where the pastime of cooking is dead and meals can be created at the touch of a machine.

1. The writer gives the example in paragraph 3 in order to _________.
A.show us how 3D food printing works in our daily life
B.tell us how good it is to use 3D printers to print food
C.help us to know what things we can use to print food
D.let us better understand when to use 3D food printing

B.What’s more, 3D food printing could make people’s life much better.
C.What’s worse, people would not get the food from the 3D printers.
D.Anyway, using 3D printers could offer people more chances to find jobs.
3. What’s the structure (结构) of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1,… )
A.B.C.D.
4. The best title of passage is ___________.
A.The development of 3D printersB.Whether people cook or not

10 . As a girl growing up in Oakland, Harris was attracted to nature in college, she accepted a green lifestyle, avoiding chemicals(化学物质) in her food and beauty products lo make her carbon footprint(碳足迹) less.
