1 . Hundreds of foreigners got together in a small neighborhood in Qingdao on the afternoon of April 20 because of the Neighbor Day, an 18-day event celebrated across Qingdao. They learned the arts of Chinese handwriting, dumpling making, paper cutting and discovered the culture of Chinese family trees.

The festival started 12 years ago after a 10-year-old girl called Sun Ruihan was refused when paying a New Year's visit to her neighbor. Upset by this incident, she wrote to the Shibei district government of Qingdao, suggesting that they should introduce a "Neighbor Day" to encourage greater spirit.

As the birthplace of the festival, Shibei hosted the opening ceremony of this year's Neighbor Day on April 19. With the theme of "___________" people from across the city got together to share their homemade food and discuss the family stories. They also set up a mobile neighbors’ library to share books.

Sarah from the United States said she had a great time with her neighbors as she experienced the art of Chinese paper cutting for the first time. Masha from Russia, who is studying Chinese at the Ocean University of China, described the event as a great chance to make friends with her Chinese neighbors and learn about the local culture with them. She tried her best at Chinese handwriting and also had great fun learning how to make dumplings. "I love eating dumplings but I never knew how to make them before," she said. "Now I can come to my neighbors' homes and learn in their kitchens."

Neighbor Day grew from the needs of the people. With the big support from the government, it has become another culture symbol of Qingdao.

2 . Before people knew much about the ways of birds, it was thought that they didn’t have to be taught like children, but that they knew everything they needed to know straight from the eggs. That is, they were said to act from instinct(本能)alone and not at all from thinking, as we do.

Another belief that people had was that birds of a kind were carbon copies: that they looked exactly like each other, all acted in the same way, and all sang the same song.

But since we began to study birds more closely, we have found these things are not true. We find that birds learn things by being taught, as we do. Also, they find out how to do things themselves, and they are not all alike, as so many machines.

More than this, we see that they don’t look or act exactly like each other. For when we know one robin well, we can tell him from any other robin. And no two of a kind sing exactly the same song.

A bird is a genius in many ways. One is by the way it acts when it can’t do as it is used to doing. I saw a robin once who wished to build a nest but couldn’t find mud(泥)to put into it. It was as dry as a desert, and there were no streams near. Now a robin’s nest must have mud, and the bird seemed having no idea for a while but at last thought of a way to get it. She went to a bathing dish that the people                           of the house kept filling with water for the birds, jumped into it, and got her legs very wet. Then she flew to the road, and walked around like a soldier. In a short time, her legs had a good coating of mud, which she careful picked off                           with her mouth, and took it to the nest she was building. She repeated this action many times until she had as much mud as she needed.

A bird often shows sense by the way she repairs a nest that has been thrown out of place. Sometimes she will add a new straw(稻草). One bird, whose nest broke a little, put so many straws above that they made a little tent over it.

1. In the first paragraph, what does it mean that it was thought that “birds knew everything they needed to know straight from the egg”?
A.They know everything.
B.They learn how to hunt quickly.
C.They have to be taught like children.
D.They are born knowing everything.
2. What do the first two paragraphs mainly tell us?
A.What the ways of birds were in ancient times.
B.How different kinds of birds learn about the new world.
C.What people knew about birds before they began to study them.
D.What different kinds of birds look and act.
3. Why does the writer give the example of the robin in Paragraph 5?
A.To show us how the bird builds its house.
B.To show us how the bird lives alone.
C.To show us how people take care of it.
D.To show us the bird can solve the problems by itself.
4. Which is the right order according to the passage?
①The robin got her legs wet.             ②People filled a dish with water.
③The robin flew to the road.             ④The robin flew back to its nest.
⑤The robin made its legs full of mud.
A.②①③⑤④B.①②③④⑤C.②①⑤③④D.①②③⑤④

3 . What things are acceptable(可接受的) when you are at the dinner table and what things are serious breaches(违犯) of manners?

I will tell you some of the most important American rules of table manners. When you sit down to eat, you should place the napkin across your lap. You should never talk with your mouth full and should chew with your mouth closed. If someone asks you a question while you are chewing, you should finish chewing and then swallow(吞咽) the food before answering. You should never drop scraps on the table; instead place them on a spare plate. Salt and pepper(胡椒粉) will be at the table, but you should taste your food before adding any. Only put food on someone else’s plate if they ask for it and if they say they do not want anything else to eat or drink then you will not give them anything else. Do not use your knife or fork to point at others because it is considered rude.

In China I know it is rude to point with your chopsticks. It is common practice to place food into a friends bowl and to put drink in their glass even after they have said they do not want any more. It is fine to drop the scraps onto the table. Though salt and pepper are not always on the table, vinegar(醋) and soy sauce(酱油) usually are. Talking while you’re eating is not considered impolite.

Manners are different all over the world and can even change in different parts of a country. Have you ever seen a foreigner do something you thought was impolite? Is there something you have done that they might view as impolite?

1. The underlined word “scraps” in Paragraph 2 means “____” in Chinese.
A.残羹B.筷子C.米饭D.餐巾
2. How many parts can the passage be divided into?
A.①②;③;④B.①;②③;④.C.①;②;③④D.①②;③;④
3. If someone asks you a question while you are chewing in America, you should_____.
A.answer it right away.B.ask him to repeat it.
C.be chewing while answering.D.chew and swallow the food before answering.
4. What’s the best title of the passage?.
A.American rules of table mannersB.Chinese rules of table manners
C.American and Chinese rules of table mannersD.Manners all over the world

4 . ①If you are planning what you are going to do during the holidays, why not enjoy a visit to a theme park?

②Lots of theme parks have roller coasters. A roller coaster is anything that may appear dangerous while in fact, it's perfectly safe for family fun as long as you are over the height of 48 inches. If you like heart-stopping thrills, this "scream machine" is your best choice. For example, Kingda Ka is a steel roller coaster located at Six Flags Great Adventure in the United States. It is the world's tallest roller coaster and the world's second fastest roller coaster. Riding this roller coaster makes you feel like you are flying.

③Does this sound scary to you? If so, we will take you to other theme parks around the world. Ocean Park in Hong Kong is the first stop. You can walk through an underwater tunnel as sharks swim overhead or watch a dolphin swimming show. Besides, cable cars will carry you more than 200 meters to the top of the park.

④ Europa-Park is another good choice. If you think a few days are not enough to travel through Europe, this theme park in Germany will show you what other European countries are like. ________ You can first ride French bobsleds, then eat Greek sandwiches and then take a roller coaster based on the Russian space station — all in one day! Besides, Europa-Park is very real. The street lights in the Spanish part are from Spain and the small houses in the Swiss part come from Switzerland.

⑤Our last stop is Universal's Islands in the US, a world-famous dinosaur theme park. If you are a fan of dinosaurs, it is just the place for you. You can have an unforgettable experience and see dinosaurs in their natural homes.

1. It's a good choice to ________ if you like heart-stopping thrills.

6 . My mother is a teacher, and I grew up with the challenges a teacher faces. I often asked her, “Why do you teach? What keeps you teaching?” The answer was always the same, “There is always that one child, that one moment that is worth it.”

Now, I am a teacher, too. But different from my mother, I teach students challenging activities outdoors. And when my mother asked me the similar questions, my answer was, “It’s that one child, that one special moment.”

One of those moments happened recently. I was working with a group of girls in a four-week program. Everything went on well through the “Team” events and we were moving on to a “High” one called the Wire(钢索) Walk. In the Wire Walk, each girl had to climb up the pegs in a tree to a wire, 8 meters high and then walk across it. Of course, everything was safe for sure.

When I asked who would try, a few girls raised their hands, and they finished the Wire Wall with little difficulty. But when it was Susie’s turn, it seemed that she didn’t really want to. I asked Susie if she was ready. She answered softly, “I suppose.” Now, Susie was at the foot of the tree. She started to make the long reach for the first peg. The other girls cheered for her. Then I found Susie was becoming nervous with every step. I realized she would not go much further. Susie was halfway up. Then she stopped and held the tree tight, looking very afraid. Her eyes were closed. With her face against the tree, she cried, “I can’t.”

The other girls sat in silence. I talked quietly to Susie, trying to relax her. I talked for a long time till I ran out of words. “I will still be your friend no matter what, Susie!” Mary broke the silence. To my surprise, Susie lifted her head and looked up to the wire. Then she turned to look down at Mary and smiled. Mary smiled back. Finally, Susie made it all the way across that wire. When she returned to the ground, the first hug she looked for was from Mary. We all cheered.

Moments like this keep me doing what I do. The young hearts continue to fill me with courage.

7 . Once upon a time, there was a man who loved fruit very much.

One day, he went to India with his friends. When he got there, he saw many kinds of fruits, but many of them were expensive. Finally, he saw a big basket of fruit. This kind of fruit was red and long. And it was the cheapest there.

So he went up and bought a whole kilogram of the fruit and started eating it. But after he ate some of it, oh, my god, his eyes watered, his mouth watered and burnt, and his face became red. He jumped up and down, saying “Ah! Ah! Ah!”

I paid money for them, and now I’ll eat them up. It’s my money!”

We sometimes do a lot of things like that. We still continue just because we’ve put money, time, effort and love into it even though we suffer from(受害于) it.

8 . With the development of the technology, 3D printing is becoming more and more popular. We are now able to print things such as clothing, musical instruments and even cars. People and businesses are able to create the things they need very quickly and easily by using 3D printers.

But can you imagine printing food? Some scientists are trying a new way to get the dining experience by doing this. They hope that having a 3D printer in the kitchen will become as common as the oven or blender. Scientists say that they are easy to use: you simply have to choose a recipe (食谱) and put the uncooked “food ink” into a printer. You can also change the instructions to make the food you want. This means that it would be very quick and easy to create tasty and rich meals.

Using 3D printers to create your meals would also be saving the environment. There would be less need for traditional growing, shipping and packaging processes as food products would be a lot quicker and better For example, tree leaves and insects could be turned into tasty products! Printing food could also help people who have a swallowing (吞咽) trouble. They could program the printer to print softer kinds of foods so that they would not have difficulty swallowing them.

▲       It could take away many jobs, including those for growing, shipping and packaging food. Imagine a world where there was no need for growing or producing and the same tastes could be printed from an uncooked “food ink”. Besides, traditional restaurants might lose business. Also, we have to consider: is it really possible to get everything we need from them?

As we know, cooking and eating together with family and friends has long been a traditional and enjoyable activity. It is hard to imagine a world where the pastime of cooking is dead and meals can be created at the touch of a machine.

1. The writer gives the example in paragraph 3 in order to _________.
A.show us how 3D food printing works in our daily life
B.tell us how good it is to use 3D printers to print food
C.help us to know what things we can use to print food
D.let us better understand when to use 3D food printing
2. What can be put in ▲        in the passage?
A.However, a future of 3D-printed food would cause lots of problems.
B.What’s more, 3D food printing could make people’s life much better.
C.What’s worse, people would not get the food from the 3D printers.
D.Anyway, using 3D printers could offer people more chances to find jobs.
3. What’s the structure (结构) of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1,… )
A.B.C.D.
4. The best title of passage is ___________.

9 . Most people follow others blindly. Some people feel it safe to follow other people. In some rare cases it might be right, but in most cases this can make a big mistake. Ninety-five percent of people never succeed because they are following the wrong group. Actually there are reasons why we shouldn't follow others blindly.

According to a study, people always follow others when they aren't sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what's right and what's wrong! This attracts more people to follow them and the result is that most people move in a certain direction even if it is wrong.

A man who wants to be successful always hopes for others' guidance and he usually follows the same path of most people, but the question this man never asks himself is, "Are all of those people successful?" Of course not! If you want to follow a group, then follow a successful one. However, in real life you'll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and that's why following others makes no sense at all.

Most people act without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they're greater than you, then sooner or later you'll discover that you're making decisions you might regret(后悔) later.

However, should we never follow others? No. But just asking you to think wisely before you make a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem in following them, but if you have doubts(怀疑) about the direction they're moving in, don't follow them blindly.

1. Why do most people like to follow others blindly according to the passage?
A.Because they don't want to be different.
B.Because they are effected by their people around them.
C.Because they're sure to take the right direction.
D.Because they want to make themselves successful.
2. What does the underlined word "rare" mean in Chinese?
A.多数的B.特殊的C.稀薄的D.少数的
3. What's the main idea of the passage?
A.Advantages of following others blindly.B.Examples of following others.
C.Reasons of not following others blindly.D.Ways of following others blindly.
4. What's the best structure(结构) of the passage?
(①=Paragraph 1,②= Paragraph2, ③=Paragraph3, ④=Paragraph4, ⑤=Paragraph5 )
