1 . Once upon a time, there was a man who loved fruit very much.

One day, he went to India with his friends. When he got there, he saw many kinds of fruits, but many of them were expensive. Finally, he saw a big basket of fruit. This kind of fruit was red and long. And it was the cheapest there.

So he went up and bought a whole kilogram of the fruit and started eating it. But after he ate some of it, oh, my god, his eyes watered, his mouth watered and burnt, and his face became red. He jumped up and down, saying “Ah! Ah! Ah!”

But he still continued(继续) eating the fruit! Some people who were looking at him shook their heads and said, “You’re crazy, man. Those are chilies(辣椒)! You can’t eat so many! People use them as relish(调味品), but only a little bit to be put into food for taste. You can’t just eat them like that.” But the silly(愚蠢的) man said, “No, I can’t stop! I paid money for them, and now I’ll eat them up. It’s my money!”

3 . Many homes have cameras to protect them from danger. The cameras can tell the owners if someone has entered. But the cameras do not know whether the person is a family member, a friend, a postman or a criminal.

But a new camera made by a French company can recognize faces. It can tell parents at work that their children have returned from school, or that the mail has been sent to their home. It can also tell them if a stranger has entered their home. When family members enter a home, the smart camera “recognizes” them and sends information to the owner’s phone. The owner can choose to see the video then or later. But if an unknown person enters a home, the camera will send a warning sound on the owner’s phone.

This is what happened recently to a smart home camera owner named Damien. He lives in Paris.

“On a Friday I was at work, having a big monthly meeting when my phone moved. At first I told myself ‘Oh, it must be a wrong warn,’ but my phone was telling me there was a face that the camera did not recognize. Something was happening in my house!”

“I saw a person I did not know with his shoes on, which is not allowed in my apartment . I watched it on the video. I felt quite surprised. I hurried back home as fast as possible and called the police on the way. Thanks to the smart camera, the criminal was caught soon,” said Damien.

5 . Most people follow others blindly. Some people feel it safe to follow other people. In some rare cases it might be right, but in most cases this can make a big mistake. Ninety-five percent of people never succeed because they are following the wrong group. Actually there are reasons why we shouldn't follow others blindly.

According to a study, people always follow others when they aren't sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what's right and what's wrong! This attracts more people to follow them and the result is that most people move in a certain direction even if it is wrong.

A man who wants to be successful always hopes for others' guidance and he usually follows the same path of most people, but the question this man never asks himself is, "Are all of those people successful?" Of course not! If you want to follow a group, then follow a successful one. However, in real life you'll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and that's why following others makes no sense at all.

Most people act without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they're greater than you, then sooner or later you'll discover that you're making decisions you might regret(后悔) later.

However, should we never follow others? No. But just asking you to think wisely before you make a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem in following them, but if you have doubts(怀疑) about the direction they're moving in, don't follow them blindly.

1. Why do most people like to follow others blindly according to the passage?
A.Because they don't want to be different.
B.Because they are effected by their people around them.
C.Because they're sure to take the right direction.
D.Because they want to make themselves successful.
2. What does the underlined word "rare" mean in Chinese?
A.多数的B.特殊的C.稀薄的D.少数的
3. What's the main idea of the passage?
A.Advantages of following others blindly.B.Examples of following others.
C.Reasons of not following others blindly.D.Ways of following others blindly.
4. What's the best structure(结构) of the passage?
(①=Paragraph 1,②= Paragraph2, ③=Paragraph3, ④=Paragraph4, ⑤=Paragraph5 )
A.B.C.D.

6 . Dear Frank,

In your last letter, you asked me about meals in English homes. Now let me tell you something about it.

7 . Think back to a time in your life when you tried something new.

When I was a teenager I volunteered to pass out water at a local race. I was so excited to see all the different runners who passed by and quickly took a cup of water. Some ran past, some walked past and a few wheeled past.

I saw so many types of people doing it. I thought maybe I could do it, too! The next year I decided to run for the race, but I had little practice. I just wanted to finish. On the day of the race, it was terribly hot. After running for about 5 miles, I was thinking, "I must be crazy. Why did I do this? What was I thinking?" And at one moment, I said to myself, "I am never doing this again!"

That first 10 km race was quite an experience. I jogged, I walked, I jogged and walked. At times, I didn't know if I could finish.

Near the end, a 70-year-old man ran past me, very fast, and I felt a little embarrassed (尴尬的) that I was more than 50 years younger than he and I couldn't even keep up with him. But then I realized something. He was running his race and I was running mine. How often in life do we compare(比较)ourselves to others when we really shouldn't? I decided that I would not give up on running races and that one day I would be one of those 70-year-olds who were still running.

8 . ①Colors are often used to describe feelings. For example, if you “feel blue”, it means that you're sad. A person who "sees red" is angry, and someone who's “tickled pink” is happy about something. Besides expressing feelings, though, colors may also influence our actions.

②In Japan, officials have put in blue lights around railroad platforms to discourage people from jumping in front of trains. As a result, certain stations with the blue lights have seen an 84 percent drop in suicide(自杀) numbers. Pink has been believed to prevent crimes. In the United States, rooms in prison(监狱) were painted this color to calm prisoners. In sports, some visiting teams have had to use all-pink locker rooms, which were meant to weaken the team and make them lose.

③Unlike pink, red may let you gain an upper hand in sports. Sportsmen who wore red were found to have a slightly higher chance of winning. Red is also believed to be the color of energy and power.

④The ways in which colors affect us may be a result of nature and evolution(进化). Red is the color of fire and blood. So it is connected to life, danger. Yellow describes sunny days and can make us feel energetic and happy, while blue relaxes us with images of the sea and the sky.

⑤Other factors relating our reactions to colors are culture and history. In the past, the process to produce purple is difficult, and only kings and nobles could afford things in purple. As a result, the color became a royal symbol.

⑥As you can see, colors shape how we understand the world. They are seen in all parts of life and they can influence us in ways that we may not notice.

1. How do we describe somebody who is feeling happy?
A.She feels blue.B.She sees red.
C.She is tickled pink.D.She becomes yellow.
2. According to the article, what is one way to weaken an opposing (对方)team in sports?
A.Appearing in blue sportswear.B.Painting their locker rooms pink.
C.Showing them the color yellow.D.Using purple as your team's symbol.
3. According to the article, which of the following is NOT true about colors?
A.People's actions to colors are decided by nature rather than culture.
B.Purple became a symbol of royalty because it was hard for the public to get.
C.Both blue and pink can make people feel less angry, worried, and excited.
D.Red is connected to danger because of nature and evolution.
4. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A.AB.BC.CD.D
