Xinhua news-China’s Chang’e-5 probe (探测器) will get to the earth from the moon on December 17th, 2020.
On December 3rd, 2020, a Chinese spaceship, Chang’e-5 probe, took off from the surface of the moon. It carried the country’s first samples (样本) of the soil and rocks on the moon.
Chang’e-5 probe is the first Chinese spaceship to take off from a star in space except the earth. On November 24th, Chang’e-5 probe was launched from Wenchang, Hainan Province in China. It landed safely on the moon on December 1st.
The takeoff from the moon overcame a lot of difficulties, including the different environments between the earth and the moon. “But luckily, we made it.” Xing Zhuoyi, a designer of Chang’e-5 probe said excitedly. Before the takeoff, a Chinese national flag was unfolded from the probe. “Everybody in the science hall clapped their hands together warmly.” Xing said. At that time, he felt so proud of his work and his country.
Chang’e-5 is one of the most important and challenging tasks in Chinese space history. It has also been the world’s first moon-sample task in more than 40 years. If successful, the task will help improve China’s science and technology development. It will play an important part in China’s future moon landing and deep-space exploration (探索).

2 . If you watch the sky for about an hour after the sun goes down, you may see some “moving stars”. But they’re not really stars. They’re man-made satellites. And the biggest of all is the International Space Station(ISS). From May to July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth. And people can see it with their eyes.
The ISS is the biggest satellite(人造卫星)and scientists want to live on it. They think that the best way to learn more about space is to live there.
When the space station is finished, it will be like a city in space. People will stay and study there with many of the things they have at home. Laboratories, living rooms and power stations are being built. The ISS is the most expensive space program. Billions of dollars are being spent on it every year.
Scientists hope that the ISS will be a stepping stone for future space exploration(探测). “The ISS will help us understand the human body better, explore space and study the earth. It can help us make life on the earth better,” said Kathryn Clark, an ISS scientist.
Sixteen countries are part of the program: the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil and 11 European countries. China isn’t an ISS country, but it has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003, China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it.

Now I am in a strange world. It is very nice. There are many new things here. There are many earth monsters here, too. The earth monsters look very funny. They have just one head, two arms and two legs. They have thin black strings on their heads. Some earth monsters have brown or yellow strings. The earth monsters have a hole in their face. Every day, they put nice things and balls from the trees into the hole. They put water into the hole, too. The earth monsters do not walk very fast. They move from place to place in tin boxes.
At night, the earth monsters like to look at a square window box. This box has very small earth monsters in it.

6 . Many people know that rubbish is a big problem on planet Earth. What many people don't know is that junk has become a problem in outer space too.
According to BBC News, there are more than 22, 000 pieces of space junk floating around the earth. And these are just the things that we can see from the surface of the earth by telescopes (望远镜). There are also millions of smaller pieces of junk that we can't see.
Objects, like bits of old space rockets or satellites, move around the planet at very high speeds, so fast that even a very small piece can break important satellites or become dangerous to astronauts. If the tiniest piece of junk crashed into a spaceship, it could damage the vehicle (交通工具).
To make things worse, when two objects in space crash, they break into many smaller pieces. For example, when a U. S. satellite hit an old Russian rocket in 2009, it broke into more than 2,000 pieces, increasing the amount of space junk.
To reduce additional space junk, countries have agreed that all new space tools can only stay in space for 25 years at most. Each tool must be built to fall safely into the earth's atmosphere after that time. In the upper parts of the atmosphere, it will burn up.
Many scientists are also suggesting different ways to clean up space junk. In England scientists are testing a metal net that can be fired into space junk. The net catches the junk and then pulls it into the earth's atmosphere to burn up. The Germans are building robots that can collect pieces of space junk and bring them back to Earth to be safely destroyed.
"The problem is becoming more challenging because we're sending more objects into space to help people use their mobile phones and computers," says Marco Castronuovo, an Italian space researcher.
"The time to act is now. The longer we leave the problem, the bigger it will become," he says.

A trip to space
by Jerry
10 October, 2017
I’m so happy! Tomorrow I’ll be one of the first students to travel into space. The spaceship will leave the Earth at 9 a.m. It’ll take us to the Moon. I can’t wait.
The Moon is around 380,000 kilometers from the Earth, so it’ll take us about four days to get there. There’s no gravity in space, so we’ll all be able to float around in the spaceship. We’ll have to tie ourselves to our beds so that we won’t float away in our sleep! Without gravity, our bodies may get weak, so we’ll have to do exercise every day.
When we arrive, I’m going to walk on the Moon. I’ll have to wear a spacesuit to help me breathe because there’s no air on the Moon. I’ m going to take as many photos as I can, that is, if my camera still works up there well.
1. How did Jerry feel about his trip to space?2. When did the spaceship leave the Earth?
3. Why did Jerry have to wear a spacesuit on the Moon?
4. How far is the Moon from the Earth?
5. There was no gravity in space, was there?
9 . Here are billions of stars and planets in space. What’s the difference ______ stars _______ ( 71 ) planets ? Stars can give out heat and light, but planets cannot.
The sun is one of the stars . Some planets are balls of rock and some are balls of gas. We live on the planet Earth. The earth spins(自转)around once every day to give us day and light.( 72 ) The earth goes around once every year to give us different seasons. There are eight planets ________ (move)(73) around the sun. We call the family of the sun and its planets the solar system. Mercury( 水星 ) is the nearest to the sun, so it is very hot. It is the smallest planet. Venus(金星)is very bright and hot. It is the nearest to the earth. Mars is covered with orange-red dust and rocks, so it looks like a red star in the sky. It has seasons like the earth. Jupiter(木星) has more than 16 moons( 卫星 ) and it is the biggest and heaviest planet. Saturn(土星)has more than(74) 22 moons. The other planets such as Uranus(天王星) and Neptune( 海王星), are all very far from the sun and very cold. We need a telescope( 望远镜 ) to see them.
