A team of archaeologists (考古学家)have discovered a 3000-year-old city under the sands. The city, Aten, is the largest ancient Egyptian city ever found.

Archaeologists first found Aten back in the summer of 2020. It lies near Luxor, which is famous for the Valley of the Kings (帝王谷).

Dr Zahi Hawass is one of the leading Egyptologists. He said, “Many foreign teams searched for this city and never found it.”

When the team uncovered Aten, they were surprised to discover that it was in such good condition. The city had walls that were 3 meters high!

After several months of careful work, the team has found many exciting things.

Betsy Bryan is a professor of Egyptology at Johns Hopkins University. She said the city was the “second most important archaeological discovery since the tomb of Tutankhamun (图坦卡蒙墓).” This is because she believes it will help us learn about what Egyptian life was like during one of its wealthiest periods (时期).

Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun tomb near the Valley of the Kings in 1922, nearly a century ago. The team hopes that in the future they will discover more tombs with treasure.

5 . Beijing Opera appeared in the Qing Dynasty(朝代). In 1790, many opera troupes(戏班)went to Beijing for performances to celebrate the birthday of Qianlong. This kind of unusual performance touched the hearts of the people deeply. While in Beijing, the troupes created a new kind of opera called Beijing Opera. 7 . It is reported that fossils( 化 石 )found in China are from an totally new type of dinosaur( 恐龙)that belonged to the same family as the giants diplodocus(梁龙)which have died out and only can be seen in pictures.

The fossils were first discovered in 2004 by a farmer in Lingwu, a small town in the west of China. Since then, a group of people led by Xu Xing, an expert from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have dug up the whole or parts of skeletons(骷髅)from between seven and 10 dinosaurs.

Xu and researchers from two English universities have published the first study of the 174-million-year-old fossils in the journal Nature. The animal that died out long ago belonged to the diplodocus family, which are a group of ancient animals including the huge 25- meter-long diplodocus.

Xu named the dinosaur Lingwulong Shenqi(meaning Lingwu amazing dragon)after the town where the fossils were discovered. Lingwulong was a bit smaller than others with a short neck. It was about 11 to 17 meters and had a long tail and strong legs.

Lingwulong is the first diplodocus discovered in East Asia. 8 . In 1939 two brothers, Mac and Dick McDonald, started a drive-in restaurant in San Bernadino, California. They carefully chose a busy corner for their location.
