4 . Was there a Chinese soccer team at the Qatar 2022 World Cup? No. But one couldn’t miss Chinese technologies in and around the stadiums in this desert state: “mobile hotels” for having a rest, ponds for drinking water, the photovoltaic (光伏发电的) power stations for charging mobile phones with electricity, etc.
Did we forget something? Yes, even some stadiums were built by Chinese companies, while the gifts you could buy there, too, were made in China.
That was how China had participated in this World Cup and earlier matches, and might do so in the upcoming ones too: by providing products and services to the athletes and audiences. Those all impressed the world deeply with its technology and products.
While “Made in China” had left its stamp on earlier soccer World Cups and other sports events, what made the Qatar World Cup unique was the kinds of China’s technologies. For example, the Stadium 974, which was built by Chinese companies, was a movable “green stadium”. It could collect rainwater for future use and made the waste collected from the stadium into fertilizer (肥料). Besides, China had built an 800 MW photovoltaic station that constantly turns the rich sunshine in the Middle East into electricity for the stadium. “If those technologies had appeared in Russian 2018 World Cup, it would have been a much better one.” added a Russian football lover.
Another reason that had made it possible for Chinese companies to perform well in the World Cup was that China had developed a good economic growth. Although the whole world suffered from economic slowdown and recession because of the COVID-19 and other reasons, Chinese companies had largely continued to function normally.

I know many interested neighbours. One of us is Miss Tan. Most of my neighbours drive or took public transport to work. However, Miss Tan walks to her office every mornings. Although it quite a distance away from her home, she walks daily to keep fit. Miss Tan is always energetic and I admire her for her determination to stay healthily.
For the Covid-19 pandemic, exercising seems to be impossible. However, Miss Tan and her family has been doing simple workouts in the comfort of her home. Miss Tan believes that a fit body is important for work or life. It also makes people to feel productive.
6 . The Isles of Scilly Fooball League is the world’s smallest official football league, consisting of only two teams that play each other seventeen times a season.
As the home of football, England has always been crazy about the team sport, and the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago (群岛) of more than 140 islands off the southwestern tip of Cornwall, is no exception. Like many other regions of England, the Isles have their own football league- -the Garrison Gunners and the Woolpack Wanderers that play each other every weekend during a season,as well as in two yearly cups and the traditional ‘Old Men versus the Youngsters’ game played on Boxing Day.
But isn’t playing against the same team every weekend gets boring after a while? Players in the Isles of Scilly Football League will tell you that life “is only boring without football”. So as long as they have someone to play against, no one complains.
Interestingly, both teams only rely on the inhabitants of St. Mary’ s island as a recruitment(招募) pool for players. The annual draft is getting harder every year, as the island’s young continue to leave in search of better prospects (前途) on the mainland. And bringing in players from the other islands is a tough task considering the difficulty of crossing during storms and in the frequent fog.“Players do come from other islands but that in itself can lead to problems. If it is too dangerous to cross, then they can’t play,“ Leathbridge said.
The world’s smallest football league shot to fame in 2008, when Adidas came to St. Mary’s to shoot its “Dream Big” commercial. Football stars like Patrick Vieira, Daniele De Rossi, David Beckham were flown in for the shoot, and the idea of a two-team league really captured people’s imagination. Football enthusiasts, news outlets and major corporations have been coming here ever since.

9 . Figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu, who won men’s singles Olympic gold medals in 2014 and 2018, said Tuesday he was retiring from competition.
He won the men’s singles gold at the Sochi Games in 2014 and again at the Pyeongchang Games in South Korea in 2018, becoming the first men’s skater to achieve consecutive (连续不断的) golds in the category since Dick Button in 1948 and 1952. At this year’s Winter Games in Beijing, he attempted to become the first man to complete a quadruple axel-4 rotations (旋转) in the air at the Olympics, a jump that he had previously come close to achieving in Japan. In Beijing, he came just short of completing the required rotations for the quadruple axel and fell on his rear, but he expressed satisfaction with his effort afterward and hinted he was ready to retire.

They would throw Winnie the Pooh stuffed bears—reportedly his favorite cartoon character—on the ice after his performances. In China, crowds gathered outside the Beijing venue to express devotion to their favorite, and one Chinese follower on social media called Hanyu “the most beautiful icy fairy in my heart”.
