2 . A recent study suggests that for young soccer players, participating in repetitive technical training activities involving heading during practice may result in more total head impacts, but playing in actual soccer games may cause greater magnitude (程度) head impacts.
“Headers are a fundamental component to the sport of soccer. Therefore, it is important to understand differences in header frequency and magnitude between practice and game settings,” said study author Jillian Urban, PhD, from Wake Forest School of Medicine. “Practices are easier to change than games. Therefore, understanding how we can restructure practice to reduce head impact exposure while teaching fundamental skills is critical to improving head impact safety in the sport.”
The study followed eight soccer players who were aged 14 and 15 for two seasons. Players wore a sensor (传感器) during all practices and games. Researchers recorded all activities on the field with a camera, and identified each time head contact was made.
Head impact exposure was evaluated in terms of peak head motion and impacts, or impact rate per player per hour. Researchers then compared impact rates across different activity types.
Researchers amazingly found that technical drills like heading the ball and practicing ball-control, were associated with an average impact rate of 13.7 head impacts per player per hour. Team interaction activities such as small-sided games in practice were related to an average impact rate of 0.5 head impacts per player per hour, which was slightly lower than the 1.3 head impacts observed during actual games.
The study also revealed that games were associated with the highest numbers of average rotational (旋转) head motion, which signified the greatest magnitude head impacts. However, technical training recorded the lowest numbers.
“If the goal is to reduce the number of head impacts a young soccer player may get on the field, our findings suggest the best way may be to rearrange technical training practices,” said Urban. “However, if the goal is to reduce the likelihood of players sustaining head impacts of greater magnitude, then the best bet may be to look at factors related to high-magnitude head impacts that can occur during games.” A limitation of the study is the small number of players involved.

3 . Going to the bathroom while floating in space can be tricky. Gravity is very weak in space, meaning toilets cannot flush (冲刷) the same way that they do on Earth. In a new contest, NASA is asking inventors from around the world to develop a new space toilet. The space agency is looking for a design that would work both aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as well as on the moon. NASA plans to use this toilet aboard a future lunar lander as part of the Artemis program, which will send humans to the moon by 2024.
Anyone can apply to this challenge, and the winning design will receive a $20,000 prize. The second-place design will win $10,000, and the third-place winner will win $5,000. The contest includes a “junior” category in which anyone under the age of 18 can apply with their creative space toilet idea. Winners in the junior category will receive public recognition and NASA souvenirs.
Designs should also take up no more than 4.2 cubic feet of space. The toilet itself shouldn’t be louder than 60 decibels, which is about the same volume as a bathroom fan. The space toilet will have to be able to collect both urine (尿液) and fecest (粪便) at the same time. It should be able to hold at least a quarter gallon (1 liter) of liquid waste. It should also be able to hold 17.6 ounces (500 grams) of solid waste. The final requirements are that the system must be able to store or get rid of waste, and it should also be able to be cleaned and maintained in five minutes or less.
Hopefully, this toilet will be an improvement on previous systems for waste removal. A waste removal system is a method of disposing of urine and feces. If you are a creative inventor, come and join us!

Thanks to the efforts of some high school student athletes, who helped the physically challenged, the smiles on the faces of 9-year-old Lucas Myrick and 8-year-old Elsa Dent were a little bit brighter.
Lucas and Elsa had cerebral palsy (脑瘫), a condition that limited their physical ability, and couldn’t walk as fast as their peers who were free to walk everywhere. However, they had bright spirits and always held positive attitudes towards adversity and life in all aspects. Impressively, they participated in the Park Lane Elementary School’s annual Fun Run. They wanted to demonstrate that they could participate in the race as the normal kids at school. They were convinced that they could fight prejudice against the disabled in their own way.
When Lucas’ mother, Janell, mentioned their passion for the Fun Run to the athletic director of the school, he was more thanr delighted to assist them in taking part. At last, two members of the high school team showed up to push Lucas in his wheelchair. It was not just the football team that turned up to support the event. Members of the high school cross-country team (越野队) joined in the activity aimed to build up the strength physically and cultivate perseverance in face of difficulties mentally. They ran alongside Elsa who participated in the Fun Run using her walker.
The run was about 1.07 miles. But the athletes did much more than simply pushed Lucas in the Fun Run-they formed an emotional bond with him and even came up with a team name. “The team is called the wheelies!” Lucas said with a satisfied smile on his face. The players pushed Lucas at a steady pace and at the last part of the course, Lucas got out of his wheelchair to give running with his new friends a try. “I was beating one of them on my legs,” Lucas yelled at the top of his voice excitedly. “I was running ahead of him. he couldn’t even keep up with me!” Lucas wheeled himself proudly and gave the audience a triumphant (欢欣鼓舞) smile. He waved his hands wildly to cheer Elsa on.
