文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了足球作为一项全球性运动有其历史渊源以及从足球的形成到现代足球的发展历程。

1 . There’s no doubt that football is the global sport. Though basketball, tennis, and other sports are popular too, nothing comes close to football. Being played in every country in the world, football provides dozens of superstars. The numbers are greater when compared to any other sport, and this drives the popularity of football up. Have you ever wondered when the sport started and became popular?

Football has its origin (起源) in China and has a history of more than 2,000 years. However, modern football originally appeared in Britain in the 19th century. Folk football matches had been played before in many cities and towns, but never on a professional level.

Football became a winter sport game played in different schools. The rules were carried out by each school, and this made it difficult for players to play an official game with each other. It all changed in 1849 at the University of Cambridge that invented a set of standard rules known as the Cambridge rules of football. From that moment, a new star sport was born.

By the early 20th century, football had spread all across Europe. In 1904, FIFA was set up. There are seven original members, including France, Denmark and Spain, FIFA became the governing body for many associations in Europe.

England’s international success improved the popularity of the sport in the country. The league (联赛) in Britain was set up in 1992. From the 1990s, it became a truly impressive piece of football organization, becoming the world’s top football league in the process.

Football is obviously the most popular sport in the world. It is impossible for any other sport to take its place, especially with leagues spending billions of pounds every year to stay in the focus.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

The frightening day of our diving test was here. Our parents thought we were lucky to have an Olympic-size swimming pool at the school. My mom stressed that the swimming pool was one of the best in our city. But I didn’t feel happy about it at all. Instead, I felt afraid of the swimming pool. It was mainly because I was terribly shy.

I was so shy that I always sat at the back of the room in class so I’d not be called upon to read. As for the present physical education class each Monday morning, I would work my way to the back of the line forming at the diving board so I would not have to practice the dives.

Now, it was another Monday morning - the morning of our diving test. My blood ran cold when the teacher Ms. Robbins announced that we would be graded for our final on the most difficult dive- the jackknife. And she added, “This diving test is important. The one who fails has to spare time in the following Monday mornings to practice diving in this swimming pool and attend this test again.”

My body kept shaking with fear as the line to the scary diving board shortened. As I watched, each student seemed to perform the challenging dive effortlessly. And shortly I would have to attempt something that I had never even practiced before.

Then I remembered someone telling me that when you picture yourself doing a skill over and over, it’s just as effective as physically practicing that skill. So I watched carefully as each classmate jumped at the end of the board once, added a jump for height, folded their body in half to reach for their toes, and finally straightened out like an arrow for going into the water. After carefully watching for a while, I was actually in a state of surprise, because all of a sudden I realized that it was possible for me to perform these four steps of diving.

Eventually all classmates except me finished jumping. The teacher announced that it was my turn.

注意:1. 续与词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end.

4 . To keep social distancing and work at home during the pandemic (流行病) has led to less time moving around, and more time sitting and looking at screens. For many office workers, working at home means spending hours sitting at our desk.     1    . Therefore, exercise experts suggest things must be changed. Some tips here are to help you move more.

Start small

People trying to start exercising often get caught up in an “all or nothing” thinking which means either I do zero or I do two hours. And if I don’t get two hours, then it doesn’t count, or it’s not good enough.     2    . Going from no activity at all to even a little bit will indeed get some health effects.

    3

Part of developing a good exercise habit is to know yourself well. Knowing what’s possible and what’s not realistic for you. For instance, if you’re not a morning person, don’t plan to exercise in the morning. And if you hate running, don’t run just because someone tells you it’s good for you.     4    . Arranging with a friend to work out will help you avoid struggling to get started.

Walk whenever you can

Sitting less and walking more will make a big difference. Use your stairs instead of an elevator. And if you don’t have to go out, just walk room to room back and forth to get those extra steps. If you have a meeting, use the break of that meeting to walk around.     5

A.Make sure to know yourself well
B.Choose a suitable time for yourself
C.All these steps will count and be helpful
D.That’s a great place for everybody to walk
E.But five minutes is believed to be better than none
F.And it is ruining our health physically and mentally
G.You can think of possible ways for you to start or stick to

5 . You probably know that exercise is the key to treating depression (沮丧), but a bigger fact remains: You don’t feel like exercising. Here are some tips to help you start exercising.

Change your view of “exercise”.

Forget “exercise”. Instead think: “being active” or “having fun”.     1     Besides,it gives you a bigger emotional (情感上的) benefit.

    2

Taking part in physical activities with others supports you in doing those activities. Ask friends what activities they’re doing or they would like to do, and join them. You can also find a personal trainer, join an exercise group or go to a class.

Keep moving throughout the day.

Sitting is the new smoking.     3     Try to keep exercising throughout your day. If you have a desk job, get up and walk around.Every 20 minutes stretch (伸展) your hands, arms and back or more frequently, if you can.

Take exercise outside.

Nature has a great effect on your mood and it can relax you. Even just looking at images of lakes and trees helps.     4     Or walk on a treadmill (跑步机) by a window.

Set a goal.

When you connect your exercise to a longterm goal, it helps your brain forget the discomfort and makes your exercise more satisfying.Find out what’s truly important to you.     5

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述一位70岁的美国老人完成世界上最长的赛马比赛,并成为有史以来赢得蒙古德比的最年长的人。并讲述了他参加德比的经验。

6 . Competing in the Mongol Derby

Standing at the finishing line, 70-year-old Bob Long spent a while reflecting on the achievement he’d just made. Behind him was the wild, endless Mongolian grassland extending into the distance. This American had just become the oldest person to ever complete and win the Mongol Derby, the world’s longest horse race.

Long, a rider all his life, entered the race after being inspired by All the Wild Horses, a movie based on the grueling event.

Fearing that he wouldn’t be able to complete it, he set about preparing his mind and body for this “hardest, toughest, most demanding thing you can do on a horse”, an annual 1, 000-kilometer race that was recognized as the world’s longest horse race by The Guinness Book of Records in 2011. He confirmed his belief that preparation can surpass (超过;胜过) youth, as some of the other riders were less prepared.

Although Long had been riding horses for many years, the hardship and uncertainty of the task pushed him to his limit and forced him to depend entirely on his own will. The race organizers had provided an extensive support network to keep an eye on the participants from afar. Despite that, the physical pressure of riding such a long distance made simple things like squatting (蹲) down at the end of the day almost impossible.

Along the vast race course there were unpredictable circumstances beyond Long’s control, however well prepared he’d been. Weather was one of them, which could switch from heavy rain to burning sun unexpectedly.

Above all else, the biggest obstacle was the state of mind. Without a living soul in sight, Long was desperate for interaction, guidance, and comfort. This feeling of loneliness accounted for his hope that one of his fellow competitors would catch up.

Regardless of the hardship, Long felt a sort of spiritual adventure while traveling through the wilderness. He was provided with some memorable moments while connecting with nature. He also grew to love the country and the communities along the route.

Still holding the passion for riding, Long never dismisses the idea of competing in another Mongol Derby.

B.A review of a film based on the longest horse race.

Recently, I took part a basketball competition. We had to make so many shots as possible. When the other players began to shoot, I become very nervous. Everyone was doing it perfectly. I was worried that you would fail to make any shot. Then it was my turn. My heart was beating hard. My hands were trembling. Suddenly, I heard my classmate shouting, “Come on! Go!” They were cheering for me. That made me feel a bit more confidently. I aimed at the basket or threw the ball without think. To my surprised, I made the shot. In the end, I got six points, while the other players only got five. I was so excited!

This experience helped me understand that you shouldn’t be too more shy when you’re trying something.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了疫情期间,很多人改变了健身习惯,在家线上锻炼,本文介绍了这种现状,并分析了其优缺点。

10 . During the COVID-19 pandemic (流行病), some people found their exercise was greatly reduced. However, it was an attraction for others to increase their physical activity. With the change of working from home, some physical activity was reduced. People took this newly freed up time as a chance to add exercise to their day, with online fitness programs and health apps (应用软件) reporting an increase.

However, the early drive to exercise appears to have been short-lived for many, with a study comparing activity levels between the first and second waves of COVID-19 in Victoria finding most people reported a reduction in their physical activity levels the second time around because of a shortage of encouragement. A study found that COVID-19 has reduced physical activity and increased sedentary (久坐不动的) behavior, and the effects could be lasting.

Continuing concerns about COVID-19 have led to carefulness about returning to public spaces such as gyms. But also, with many people changing their exercise habits and setting up home gyms during the pandemic, it’s become much more convenient to exercise at home. It’s clear for many of us that COVID-19 changed how and how much we exercise. But the changes don’t necessarily have to be for the worse.

People who changed to online workouts (锻炼), fitness apps and home gyms during the pandemic said their exercise was less satisfying, less enjoyable and they felt less active com-pared with doing exercise in gyms. Besides the physical effects, people reported missing the social communication, friendship, and being avoidable of the gym. In-person classes also offer the advantages of management and instruction, which can help make sure workouts are completed safely and effectively.

However, online workouts, fitness apps and near-home workouts are likely here to stay, and offer many advantages, such as no need to travel to the gym and convenience, making it easy to fit in a workout while working and shouldering family responsibilities.

1. How do some people add exercise to their day during the pandemic?
A.By returning to public places.B.By driving to a lonely park.
C.By turning to the Internet.D.By taking face-to-face classes.
2. What can we learn about exercise during the pandemic from the text?
A.People have changed exercise habits.B.People like to build their home gym.
C.People strongly wish to exercise.D.People refuse to go back to public gyms.
3. What does paragraph 4 mainly focus on?
A.The disadvantages of exercising at home.
B.The way to exercise during the pandemic.
C.The examples of good exercise at home.
D.The reasons for people changing home exercise.
4. What does the author think of exercising at home in the last paragraph?
A.It is difficult.B.It is worrying.
C.It is challenging.D.It is helpful.
