2 . For many people, COVID-19 doesn’t end with a negative test. Weeks or months after traces of the virus disappear from noses and throats, symptoms can last long.
The symptoms of the long COVID are wide-ranging. Some people struggle with extreme tiredness that influences their daily lives.
The symptoms make it hard to determine who’s at high risk for long-term health problems. Some post-COVID conditions may still exist from virus-caused damage.
There are some broad indications about who’s at risk. Studies suggest that women are more likely than men to have long-existing symptoms. COVID-19 patients with more than five symptoms in the first week of infection may be more likely to develop long COVID.
Using health records and exams, and knowledge of certain small diseases with symptoms similar to long COVID, experts are on the hunt for those risk factors.
A.Sex is a possible risk factor |
B.Age also appears to be a risk factor |
C.But there’s no scientific basis for that |

5 . Shoppers around the world are crazy buying because of fears over the COVID-19(新型冠状病毒), which caused a critical epidemic(流行病)in China and even other countries at the beginning of 2020. People in countries such as England, Japan, Singapore and Australia have been emptying supermarket shelves of toilet paper, face masks, hand wash products and dried and canned food. Photos and videos of shoppers in Australia quarreling over the last pack of toilet roll in a supermarket have spread across social media swiftly.
However, governments have advised their citizens that there is no need to “panic buy“. They added that panic buying would only reduce the supply of products needed by patients and medical staff which could exacerbate the problems the COVID-19 virus is causing. Singapore’s prime minister comforted Singaporeans that: ”We have enough supplies. There’s no need to stock up.“ A week after the panic buying fever, things have calmed down and shoppers have gone back to purchasing items in normal quantities.
Psychologists say panic buying is an “unwise” behaviour that is part of a condition called FOMO the fear of missing out. Dr. Katharina Wittgens said a herd mentality(从众心理)sets in during disasters that causes people to copy the actions of others. People watch the news of items being bought in quantity and immediately rush out to the stores to do the same. She said people were taking on too much the risks of dying from the virus. She said: “Far more people die in car accidents or household accidents per year but we don’t panic about these things in the morning before we go to work.”

Dear Editor,
I am high school student. Here I would like to express my sincerely gratitude through your newspaper to all the medical workers for your devotion and sacrifice in this battle against the Covid-19 virus. It is they who, despite of the lack of equipment and the potential of infection, desperately rescue those infecting and striving for life. It is also they who have shed new light on the virus to build up our confidence to defeat it. It is they who deserves all the admiration and love! I can ever express our thankfulness too much for their selfless contributions. As the virus is very hard to clear, I’m convinced that China will win the battle and make a quick recover. Finally I hoped all of them will stay healthy and happy.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Since the COVID-19 epidemic (传染病) broke out in that winter, a number of people infected and patients who have died has kept climb. It is reported that the epidemic has something to do with the killing and selling of wild animals. There is no doubt that hunting and killing wild animals have a bad influence. Wild animals are killed for varied reasons, that causes the imbalance of nature. As far as I am concerned, something must be done to stop this legal action. First, Nature Reserves are supposed to be built so as to offer more living space to wildlives. Second, we should never have wild animals for food, as they are part our environment. It is high time that we raise people’s awareness to protect wild animals. Only in this way can you build a harmonious society and ensure a better future of mankind.

10 . As giant panda Tian Bao walked toward the feast placed in his enclosure (围场) on Thursday at Pairi Daiza zoo in Belgium, fans waiting outside began to sing Happy Birthday in Dutch and French.
One of the fans, Nora Verhoeyen, said she traveled there for the birthday party from the city of Oudenaarde, transferring between three trains in the process. Verhoeyen has visited Tian Bao and four other giant pandas at the zoo many times. She also came after Tian Bao was born on June 2, 2016—the first giant panda baby born in Belgium.
“I like pandas. I like Tian Bao very much,” she mentioned. She said she cried a year ago, knowing that Tian Bao would go to China later last year. Under the loan agreement with the Chinese government, giant panda babies born outside China to parents loaned from China belong to China and should go back by the age of four to join the breeding program as part of the conservation of the species.
“Tian Bao’s departure for China has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He is now expected to go to China at the beginning of next year,” according to the zoo’s founder and president, Eric Domb.
Giant panda keeper Robin Bouttefeux said that he prepared bamboo shoots, carrots and a cake made of soybeans, rice and corn for Tian Bao’s birthday. He said that every visitor loves Tian Bao. “He is my best friend,” he added. Bouttefeux, who has held the post for eight years, said that taking care of five giant pandas is a demanding job. “But it’s a nice job working with pandas every day,” he said.
Tian Bao weighed only 171 grams when he was born. He weighed 100 kilograms on Thursday. Domb said that everyone will be sad when Tian Bao leaves next year. But he and his colleagues also know that it is beneficial. Giant pandas are solitary (独立的) animals. Mothers and babies do not stay together for long in the wild. “If they were kept together beyond the point when a child is self-sufficient (自立的), it would eventually cause aggression”, according to a giant panda researcher, Elizabeth Dunn.
