文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述了锻炼是保持身心健康的重要因素以及介绍了疫情期间人们的运动方式。

1 . Exercise is an important part of staying healthy — both physically and mentally. Studies show that it can help strengthen the body’s natural defenses against disease.     1     For many people, it is also a part of their daily routine, making them feel better about themselves.

2     However, because of the current restrictions and social distancing, some ways of exercising have changed or are simply gone. So, people are changing how they exercise during this coronavirus pandemic (新冠疫情).

Those who only exercise indoors might now consider moving their exercise routine outdoors.

3     “Simply walk outside in nature,” Khabbaza said. “People can use this as an opportunity to exercise in other ways.” But in areas with stay-at-home orders or enforced social distancing, exercising outside may not be as simple as it sounds.     4

Gyms, recreation centers and exercise studios are not open. So, some people are turning online to exercise. The physical fitness industry is also moving to online training. The Associated Press news agency contacted industry representatives and other people. Beth Berglin is the director of a charitable group in Miami, Florida. Before the pandemic, her exercise routine involved going to actual camp-style classes four mornings a week.     5     Instead, she is staying active through online classes.

A.So people fancy outdoor activities.
B.Now, the area where she trains is shut.
C.But exercise does not just keep us healthy.
D.Getting enough exercise at difficult times is vital.
E.What if people are not allowed to go out due to the pandemic?

3 . I watched my dad close the door. It was a really cold night in dead silence and I was all alone at home. My parents left because they had been running fever for several days and they were showing other symptoms of COVID19. It was the 9th day of Wuhan lockdown starting on January 23.

The virus we now know as COVID19 is somehow fearsome partly because it does not discriminate (区别对待) in choosing who it infects. But that is only partly true. All the evidence suggest that it can be merciless to older people, so I was wondering whether my parents would make it and whether we would ever take family photos, which my parents and I had talked about during the Spring Festival holiday.

On their second day away my parents called and asked me how I was. We talked using FaceTime, and the moment I saw my mom lying there with an oxygen mask and my dad could not talk without breathing heavily, I realized that I had to live on my own.

But two weeks later, I came across a fever and had to go into quarantine (隔离) and be put under medical observations for 14 days. Fortunately, my illness turned out to be due to a bacterial infections but not COVID19.

Everything there was hectic, and there seemed to be a shortage of medical staff and materials were in short supply. Even though the doctors and nurses were covered from head to toe, I could see how tired they were when I looked into their bloodshot eyes.

They would work a whole day preparing for new patients and seemed incredibly apologetic for not having everything that was needed. Most of the patients were really understanding, but of course there were those who were not, and complained loudly, but all the doctors and nurses tried their best to deal with it in a calming way. And they are all from other cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou, and some of them are just three or four years older than me.

When the quarantine was over, every patient effusively thanked the workers for what they had done, but the answer they received was exactly the same: “That’s what we’re here for.”

5 . France announced on Sunday that it has implemented a 48-hour ban on travel to Britain, joining a growing number of European countries halting travel to Britain after a new strain of the coronavirus was detected in that country. At least six European countries have announced flights will cease if they haven’t done so already, while France and Belgium have banned train travel.

French officials said the 48-hour stoppage would give them time to find a “common doctrine” to stop the spread of the new COVID-19 variant. French President Emmanuel Macron tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday.

Germany, which holds the EU presidency, called a special crisis meeting for Monday to coordinate a response.

Top health officials in Britain say a new, fast-moving variant of the coronavirus could be up to 70% more transmissible than previous ones. This strain appears to be driving the rapid spread in London and southern England. But there is no evidence the new strain is deadlier or would react differently to the vaccine, according to BBC News.

As a result of the new strain, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Saturday a new tier of coronavirus restrictions, the strictest yet, and canceled the planned five-day Christmas relaxation period that had been planned from December 23 through 27.

文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道。冠状疫情改变了计划,原本要乘坐飞机回荷兰的25名高中生开启了乘坐大帆船横渡大西洋回家之旅。

7 . The sailing trip that 25 Dutch high school students took last month was supposed to end in Cuba (a country in the Caribbean Sea). There they would trade a tall ship for a plane flight back to the Netherlands. The coronavirus pandemic (冠状病毒流行病) forced a change in plans. Now, the students are taking the long way home — crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a 60-meter sailing ship called the Wylde Swan. They are under the watchful eyes of 12 sailors and three teachers.

In March the Wylde Swan had run into difficulties around the Caribbean when local ports and islands began taking steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, said Masterskip director Christophe Meijer. The plan to sail the students to the final port in Cuba and fly them home from there would need changing. Meijer decided the very best way of getting home was sailing.

The people working on the ship then had to tell the students’ parents who, instead of disagreeing, expressed a feeling of comfort after worrying how their children would get home during the pandemic.

The company Masterskip runs five educational voyages for about 150 students each year. And the people working on the ship had the know-how needed in ocean voyages with students. “The Wylde Swan has crossed the ocean some 20 times or more, so for us it’s a routine (例行的) operation,” Meijer said.

The goal of such educational voyages is to increase students’ knowledge about sailing. But these children have learned more than that.

“As we say in the Netherlands, you can’t make something shine without friction (摩擦),” Meijer said, noting that the students get along well while helping with day-to-day tasks on the ship.

“That’s because they have a shared goal — to get the ship and themselves safely home. That shared goal produces unity,” he said.

1. What is the new plan of these voyagers?
A.Returning to Cuba by ship.
B.Returning to the Caribbean by plane.
C.Returning to the Netherlands by plane.
D.Returning to the Netherlands by ship.
2. What is the parents’ attitude to the changed plan?
A.They support it.
B.They are worried about it.
C.They consider it to be boring.

3. Which of the following best describes the twelve sailors?
A.They are humorous.
B.They are experienced.
C.They have a cheerful attitude to the future.
D.They show much patience toward the students.
4. In what way does the voyage benefit the students?
A.It helps build their sense of teamwork.
B.It raises their courage to fight coronavirus.
C.It lets them know the importance of planning.
D.It deepens their understandings of their homes.

9 . The Wuhan Institute of Shipbuilding Technology was used as a quarantine site (隔离区) from February 8 to March 28. Cheng Shining, a junior of Central China Normal University in Wuhan, was responsible for collecting and distributing supplies for quarantined people and medical staff. On China’s border with Vietnam, a group of about 500 geese stand guard, ready to honk at or bite whoever tries to enter     1    (illegal).

Since October 2021, the Chinese government     2    (use)this so-called “geese army” across 300 miles of China’s Chongzuo in an effort     3    (stop)COVID-19 entering China via illegal immigration. Chinese domestic geese need no training; once they establish their territory, the five-pound birds will     4    (defence)it fiercely.

Reinforcing(增援)this feathered team     5    (be)about 400 mixed-breed guard dogs,     6     accompany border police on duty while the birds keep a stationary watch. However, geese may have the edge over dogs, particularly because the birds are more selective about raising     7     alarm, says Petr Glazov, chair of the Goose Specialist Group. Dogs can sound the alarm sometimes just     8     fun or to talk together from dog to dog. But geese will only do so if there’s an intruder(闯入者)that goes into their special area.
