3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Well today it happened. A day we never want to happen, but continually prepare for throughout the school year. We had a tornado (龙卷风) touch down near the school, and as expected, went into our emergency tornado procedures. I wasn’t even in the classroom when it happened. I had taken a student with me to the workroom to help gather items for a project. When the alarm went off, I immediately took my student’s hand and ran as fast as I could back to the classroom.

Never did I imagine needing to put our tornado drills (演习) to use. I never imagined actually needing to line my students up on the wall, have them crouch (蹲) down with their knees and heads touching the ground, hands on the backs of their heads. Their hearts beat so fast that they couldn’t catch their breath, or the fear filled eyes looking up at me as they asked if their mothers, fathers, grandmothers and friends were going to be okay. Never did I imagine the terrible silence that would come over the whole school, with hundreds of students lining up against the walls of one building. Never did I imagine the way I would feel, and other teachers along with me, as we tried our best to comfort our students, assure them of their safety, and promise them everything would be alright when we truly didn’t know what the outcome would be.

Today has taken a negative influence on me, as I am sure it has on the hundreds and thousands of teachers in the local areas and surrounding areas. But at the same time, I am beyond proud, surprised, and excited at how my students handled themselves today.

In the very scary, emotional and dangerous situation, my students handled themselves with the attitude and mindset of children much older than them. Never in my life have I seen my students follow directions so quickly, exactly, and without hesitation. Even though some tears were flowing, and some hearts were beating fast, my students were brave. They had such great trust in my assistant and me that they were able to be 100%calm.

注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The children looked at me with fear and hope.

4 . How To Deal With A Bully

Bullying is when someone misuses his authority( 权威) or power inside a relationship.    1    This behavior can cause physical and emotional harm on others and often leaves the victim feeling helpless.

It is never easy to deal with all the unwanted bullying even when you have done nothing wrong.    2    Here are some helpful ways to deal with a bully when you get bullied.

Ask Them To Stop

3    Sometimes when we do not speak up for ourselves, the bullies continue with their behavior thinking of us as easy targets. Telling them to stop in a firm and confident voice can make them reconsider their actions. This will work only if they have not yet established a pattern of bullying you. It is important to keep in mind that you are trying to de-escalate(弱化) the situation.

    4

Bullies usually hunt for people who are alone or have isolated themselves from their surroundings. If you are with your friends, or if you are in the company of someone, it is least likely that the bully will disturb you. We are not asking you to make a huge circle of friends, but sometimes all it takes is one loyal friend who will stay by you no matter what.

Ignore Them

Another effective measure to ignore a bully is by ignoring them. They think of it as a game, and when they get an emotional response from you, it satisfies their ego.     5    So if they get nothing, they will stop bothering you because they will know you are not an easy one to attack.

A.Be Accompanied
B.Make More Friends
C.Asking the bully to stop is sometimes an effective measure to deal with them.
D.It can be outside of a relationship too as this behavior knows no bounds.
E.Such bullies will go around spreading rumors and false news.
F.However, doing nothing in return will only result in more intense bullying.
G.When you do not react to what they say or do no matter how hurtful it may be for you, they start to lose interest in you.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章针对欺凌现象提出了一些可以帮助保护你自己的建议。

5 . In the hallways between classes, on the playground, or on the school bus, bullying (欺凌) can happen anywhere.     1    . If you are being bullied, here are some tips to help you defend yourself.

Make a parent aware of the situation. Your parents can often speak out for you to the teachers and school leaders, and they may be able to have a talk with the parents of the aggressor (好斗者),     2    . Many kids, especially those who are not very popular, may have a few teachers they really like. If you have someone like this at the school, talk to this person about the bullying incidents.

Stop being a victim (受害者). You don’t have to act like a victim just because you have been the victim of bullying. This gives the aggressor more power over you and the situation. Walk with your head held high, your chin up and your back straight.     3    ; this makes it harder for someone to think of you as weak.

4    . Be aware of your surroundings (周围环境) and the people around you. Stay away from students who seem to be trouble-makers. When a bully goes near to you, it’s a good idea to stand near a teacher or any adult to prevent them from laughing at or making fun of you.

Learn to protect yourself.     5    . These types of skill-based training courses not only help you defend yourself physically against aggressors, but they also teach you to avoid harmful environments, how to read unsafe people and how to prevent a fight before it starts.

A.Avoid the bully whenever possible
B.or you can turn to a teacher that you trust
C.Take a general self-defence class or martial arts
D.Consider that some bullies are also bully-victims
E.Show self-confidence rather than a lack of confidence
F.Get with a friend who can serve as a source of strength
G.Bullying can be a terrible, life-changing experience for children

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。本文主要讲述的是美国很多高中学校在校内售卖垃圾食品及其原因。

7 . Where do teens get junk food (垃圾食品)? In more than a third of the U.S. high schools, the CDC reports.

A study shows that in some states, teens find it much easier to get junk food. In Utah, for example, more than four out of five high schools sell candies and more than three out of four sell high-fat, salty snacks.

“But progress is being made,” says Howell Wechsler, director of CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health. “We see quite a few states where the number of schools selling junk food in vending machines (自动售货机) is very low.”

In a study of high schools in 25 states and nine cities, the percentage of high schools selling junk food during lunch periods dropped from 53 percent in 2016 to about 37 percent in 2018. Yet there was no change in the percentage of high schools selling junk food before and after the lunch bell rang.

Why do schools sell food that harms kids’ health? Money, Wechsler says. Sales from vending machines, and snack bars come directly to schools without strings (附带条件) by state or city school systems.

Faced with increasing financial pressures, schools are tempted (诱惑) to make deals with the junk food companies. However, the success some schools have achieved set others a good example. “In some places, schools are selling healthier choices and continuing to bring in revenue (收入),” Wechsler says. “The great progress made in these states shows that changes are possible to make.”

Wechsler also says schools that replace junk food with healthy food see a drop in revenue at first but then see revenue climb back up after a year or two.

1. When do schools make progress in selling less junk food?
A.Before lunch.B.During lunchtime.C.After lunch.D.Over dinner.
2. Why do schools sell food that harms kids’ health?
A.Students prefer junk food to healthy food.B.Students have few healthy food to choose from.
C.They make deals with the junk food companies.D.They want to make more money to run the school.
3. Schools which are selling healthy food will ______.
A.be supported by their studentsB.suffer a loss in revenue for the moment
C.be given some strings by the governmentD.not make enough money to run the school
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Schools sell junk food to teens.B.Teens prefer junk food in school.
C.Schools care more about teens health.D.Junk food is popular with teens at school.

Yet statistics from the U.S. government show that the number of crimes reported at colleges and universities actually decreased in recent years. ________, most colleges have stepped up security measures, employing new technology and________ services to increase campus safety.

At New York University, the Safe Ride van service is a routine part of college life. Yet Thomas Clark, a lieutenant in Western Illinois University’s Public Safety Office, said the boxes—which connect callers to emergency responders—provide an important “________ layer of protection.”

It’s also important for students to take responsibility for their own safety. Becoming familiar with local neighborhoods and campus services are key. In safety tips posted online, many universities and campus police departments emphasize alertness and basic safeguards such as traveling in groups and familiarizing yourself with your________.

Personal-safety expert David Nance says the most important thing students can do is to be________—which means not being distracted by smartphones or other devices. He also recommends learning________ techniques, knowing common distraction tricks used by attackers and keeping a safe distance from strangers.

Students who are thinking about studying in the U.S. can________ campus safety before applying to or deciding on a particular school.
