3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

A 92-year-old hunter getting lost in the woods

Bill McDonnell was going hunting. Deer season had begun, but it was colder than usual. Up until his late 80s, Bill hadn’t minded hunting in sub-zero temperatures, but he had slowed in the past few years. The snow-dusted mountains of the Shenandoah Valley were no place for a 92-year-old. He knew it. But he had made up his mind to get outside. His wife, Joanna McDonnell, knew what he was up to. But this particular day, Joanna didn’t even try to talk sense into her husband.

The next morning, Bill woke up at four, grabbed his gun, and drove his Jeep toward Shenandoah Mountain, a place where he hadn’t hunted for a long time. At the end of the old Laurel Run logging road, he hit the trail on foot.

It was about 7:30 a.m. when the sun peeked (微微露出) through the trees. Bill had strict instructions from Joanna to be out of the woods by 2 p.m. and home by 3 p.m. — plenty of time before sunset, in case he missed the deadline, which he often did. Not long into the hike, he came upon a path he didn’t remember. Maybe this was a secret route. He took it.

Then, around 11 a.m., he emerged (出现) into a clearing along a valley. It seemed that his path up the mountain had meandered( 蜿蜒) quite a bit. When thoughts of short-cuts came to mind, Bill couldn’t help himself. “I’ll just be extra careful,” he reasoned, and began cutting his own path. Before long, the canyon (峡谷) narrowed to a dead end. The next thing he knew was that he was lost.

He pulled out his phone, only to find it had died. He dug into his pants for the GPS device he always brought in case of emergency and pushed the “on” button. Nothing. He had forgotten to charge it. He hadn’t brought a flashlight either. During this period, he could hear the sound of a helicopter flying over his head. He yelled and waved, but in vain. He couldn’t make himself heard.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

It was about 9:45 p.m. and the sound of the helicopter gradually disappeared in the distance.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章介绍了一些预防在体育运动中受伤的措施。

4 . Playing sports is a lot of fun, but getting hurt is not.     1

Wear protective equipment.

The equipment you wear depends on the sport you play. Helmets (头盔) are the most common protective equipment. They protect your head while you’re playing football, baseball, softball, biking, skateboarding, and so on.

Warm up.

2     Doing some stretching (伸展) can get you prepared to hit the field. By warming up, you get yourself ready to play. Warming up your muscles and practicing a sport help keep you safe, too.

Know the rules of the games.

Traffic lights help prevent crashes between the many cars that drive on the roads together. This works because drivers know the rules and follow them.     3     When players know the rules of the game, fewer injuries happen. For example, you know that in soccer you can’t come from behind, crash into a player’s legs, and steal the ball.

    4

Some rules don’t have anything to do with scoring points. Some rules are just about protecting other people. For example, a diver would make sure that the pool was clear before diving in. Otherwise, he or she might land on someone else.

    5

This is a really important one. If you love sports, you may get right back in the game, even after an injury. But playing when you’re hurt is a bad idea. It can lead to an even worse injury.

A.You can take the following steps to prevent injuries .
B.It’s just like(就像……一样) sports.
C.Don’t play when you’re injured.
D.Don’t do too much exercise.
E.You and the other players know what to expect from each other.
F.It’s not a good idea to just go to the field and start playing.
G.Watch out (当心,注意) for others.

文章大意:本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。文章主要讲述了作者因为运用自己的急救知识挽救老人的生命而高兴,认为每个人都有必要学习一些基本的急救技术,并给出了具体的理由。

7 . Last week when I was reading at home, my younger sister rushed in and told me an old man was lying on the ground in front of our building. I immediately took my first-aid (急救) kit and ran downstairs. He was suffering a slight heart attack. And I performed CPR on him. Luckily, an ambulance came soon and he was taken to hospital. Later that day I was told by the hospital what I did helped rescue the old man’s life. I was happy to hear that.     1     There were many people who wanted to help around the old man then. Yet no one performed first aid on him as they hadn’t attended a first-aid course.     2     Here are my reasons.

You can gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to act in an emergency. You never know when you might need them — maybe at home, at work, at school or on holiday. If you have the skills, you can act whenever you’re needed.

3     For your family or your neighbors, having more people with first-aid skills helps build a stronger and more harmonious (和谐的) community.

You can stay safe at work.     4     With first-aid knowledge you can create a safe work environment and help meet your workplace’s safety requirements.

It’s useful for your future career (事业). The first-hand experience you gain through learning first aid and using your skills could help you decide if you want to pursue (追求) a career in the healthy profession.     5

A.But at the same time I felt a bit sad.
B.You can easily get a job in this profession.
C.You can be a helper in your community.
D.Illness and injury can happen anytime in the workplace.
E.You can take first-aid courses (课程) in your community for free.
F.It’s necessary for everyone to learn some basic first-aid techniques.
G.It also shows your commitment to the career in the health profession.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一个名为Pumpstart的项目,旨在向普通公众教授徒手心肺复苏术,提高心脏病患者的存活率。

8 . About 600,000 people die of heart attacks at home each year. And the survival rate (存活率) of out-of-hospital heart attacks is much lower than those that happen at the in-hospital setting.

Pumpstart, a program created by students at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) which is meant to teach hands-only CPR (心脏复苏术) to the general public, is effective in both teaching high school students a life-saving skill and providing medical students with a chance to take part in public health and medical education after several surveys.

High school students in the Boston area who joined in the Pumpstart program completed pre-/post surveys. The pre-surveys were carried out before they watched a 60-minute training session (培训课程) on hands-only CPR. And the post surveys were done after the training session. Medical students also completed surveys judging their comfort in learning CPR both before and after they took part in the program. The high school students reported huge improvements in CPR skills following their training from Pumpstart. And it was reported that the medical students had higher confidence levels regarding their abilities to answer questions about CPR and helping new medical students to better understand the training sessions after they joined in Pumpstart.

“Getting the general public to feel comfortable performing CPR is important to overall improved survival from heart attacks,” explained Anita Knopov, a fourth-year medical student at BUSM. “Using educational resources provided by the city medical center and offering training to inner-city high school students allow medical students to serve as both educators and experienced people in CPR within the community, while making high school students interested in the healthcare field (医疗领域). That’s what Pumpstart does.”

Knopov believes Pumpstart can serve as a model for other organizations and can have a long-term (长期的) public health influence as the bystander CPR continues to be one of the most useful factors in out-of-hospital (医院之外) heart attack survival. “Although Pumpstart is offered only in Boston, we hope that our work may stimulate the development of similar programs in other areas. And in that case we can use lots of new ‘Pumpstarts’ in other regions.”

1. What is the main purpose of Pumpstart?
A.To change people’s lifestyle.
B.To train students to be healthy
C.To improve CPR skills of the public.
D.To provide medical care for communities.
2. What does Paragraph 4 imply?
A.Pumpstart improves students self-confidence
B.Pumpstart performs CPR for people independently.
C.Pumpstart obviously reduces the risk of heart attacks
D.Pumpstart encourages students to work in the healthcare field
3. What does Anita Knopov think of the program?
A.Pretty useful.B.Widely popular
C.Partly confusing.D.Fairly interesting
4. What does the underlined word “stimulate” in the last paragraph mean?
A.CheckB.Prevent
C.EncourageD.Slow

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了口罩的演变历史。

9 . During the outbreak of novel coronavirus, wearing masks is widely believed to be a simple but effective method to protect oneself from a variety of harmful things. In fact, masks have been helping mankind for centuries. Let’s take a look at some mask-related history.

1st century

In that era, many people in Roman Empire worked underground in mines to support their families. But most of them suffered from and even eventually died of respiratory (呼吸的) illnesses. To handle this problem, Pliny the Elder (23 — 79 AD), a Roman philosopher and naturalist, recommended the use of animal bladder (膀胱) skins to stop dust from being inhaled (吸入). Although primitive, his idea was considered the very first recorded mask invention.

16th century

Early inventions did not stop with Pliny. Many centuries later, Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci (1452 — 1519), suggested using a woven cloth dipped in water over the face to protect against the toxic (有毒的) chemicals.

19th century

The design of the mask took a big step forward in the 19th century. In 1848, American Lewis Hassley became the first person to patent (注册专利) a protective mask for miners, which was a milestone in face mask history. Masks at this stage were similar to gas masks. Later, in 1897, Polish-Austrian doctor Johann von Mikulicz-Radecki designed a simple mask made up of one layer of gauze (纱布), recommending medical workers to wear it to prevent infection. That was the first recorded use of a surgical mask.

20th century

In 1910, an epidemic broke out in Northeast China. Chinese doctor Wu Liande designed a cheap face mask called “Wu’s mask”. Made of two layers of surgical gauze, it could be wrapped around the back of the head and tied in a knot. This mask was praised by many experts around the world, as it was simple to make and had a low production cost.

Modern exploration

With several outbreaks of infectious diseases and the flu, and the rise of pollution caused by industrial waste, the materials in masks have continued to evolve to better protect its wearer. For example, in 2012 when China suffered from smog, mask models such as N95 and KN90, which can filter out (过滤掉) this fine particulate (微粒) matter, became highly popular.

1. According to the text, why were masks invented?
A.To reduce the risk of infection.
B.To protect miners from dust.
C.To indicate patients with respiratory illnesses.
D.To protect workers from harmful chemicals.
2. What was considered a milestone in face mask history?
A.Using a woven cloth instead of animal skins.
B.Getting a patent on protective masks for miners.
C.The invention of surgical masks in 1897.
D.Using more than one layer of surgical gauze.
3. “Wu’s mask” grew popular around the world because ________.
A.it could be used multiple times
B.it was simple for people to wear
C.it was cheap and easy to produce
D.it could better protect people from smog
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.The development of masks.
