文章大意:本文是说明文。讲述了练习瑜伽的好处。

6 . Do you want to live in a healthy lifestyle? Practicing yoga is one of the best choices. Yoga has a well-deserved fame for helping to improve balance and flexibility and for gaining calm and relaxation.     1    . Here’s more about how doing yoga is a complete body and mind workout.

Reducing Stress, Reducing Pounds

Several studies have confirmed that doing yoga does reduce cortisol (皮质醇) levels.    2    . It can also increase your desire for high-fat and high-sugar foods and drinks while reducing your muscle mass.

    3

In a 2016 study, participants involved in practicing yoga realized that they tended to notice not only the amount of food they ate, but what type of foods they ate and the impact of eating those foods as well. “Subjects are reported becoming aware of the effect of certain foods on their bodies during their yoga practice, including sugar, dairy, meat and alcohol,” wrote the authors of the study.

Making Weight Loss Last

4    . This can be attained through improvements in sadness tolerance, mindfulness and self-sympathy. For example, if someone experiences improvements in mindfulness, they may be less likely to ‘mindlessly’ eat in response to emotions such as boredom, stress, anger and other external stimulation like the presence of tasty foods.

Choosing the Right Type

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章通过列举牛顿、哥伦布的经历,论述了在通向成功的路上坚持不懈的重要性。

7 . Virtually, there is nothing that man cannot do. Only what he has to do is keep doing and doing without being discouraged. Success will come someday or other, though it may apparently be the conception about something that it cannot be done.     1     But the reality is that man’s success depends on whether he can do the toughest tasks successfully. It is because our life is complicated and tough. And to succeed in this tough battle, perseverance and hard work are a must     2    .     4     He went through thick and thin to reach his destination after months of the strenuous voyage on the sea. He discovered the way from Spain to America and offered the world a new route of communication with America. This outcome of his perseverance will be generated by the world forever.

All the great men in history have written their names in golden letters by means of perseverance.     5     If we all are perseverant in whatever we do, we are sure to stand out as a successful nation in the near future.

8 . My son’s seventh birthday is approaching, so conversation at my house has naturally turned to organizing his party.

For his sixth birthday, we booked the local trampoline(蹦床) park. This worked out well. But the whole event cost us hundreds of pounds. This year, I’m trying to convince him that the dinosaur-themed park down the road offers just as much fun—and you don’t even need to wear special socks! This will be cheaper, because we aren’t required to hire a space—we can simply buy tickets for his mates.

But I still keep pondering over one thing—party bags. Why should a bunch of seven-year-olds, who have already been treated to a day out and a mountain of sugar, also be handed a bag full of pound-shop gifts for simply bothering to show up?

Party bags are an environmental disaster. I reckon my son attends 20 parties per year, and at each party there are 20 kids in attendance, which means 400 plastic bags in total. Within these 400 bags are perhaps 800 plastic toys, almost all of which fall apart on the journey home and then get binned instantly. The waste is shocking, and I don’t want to be part of it.

I know there are some party bag alternatives: one couple I know covered a table with Mr. Men books and got the kids to choose one each. At another party, I saw the hosts fill a bucket with soft toys and crumpled newspaper, and do a lucky dip (抽奖). Admirable efforts.

Even if that is a nice try, and even if the contents in the party bags don’t fall apart, so what? Will our guests think more highly of our child because of the party bags from our party? Will my child’s ability to make and keep friends be improved?

Well, the tradition for kid’s party bags ends with me, and it ends here, and it ends now. Who’s with me?

1. Why does the author recommend the dinosaur-themed park?
A.Because it’s more enjoyable.B.Because it provides socks.
C.Because it can reduce cost.D.Because it offers free tickets.
2. What may be put in party bags?
A.Gifts brought by guests.B.Gifts prepared by hosts.
C.Gifts distributed by parks.D.Gift a donated by charities.
3. What is the author’s attitude towards party bags?
A.Intolerant.B.Objective.C.Favorable.D.In different.
4. What do the underlined words “get binned” mean in paragraph 4?
A.Be recycled.B.Be repaired.C.Be thrown away.D.Be given away.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Rafael is my parents’ friend who owns a bakery with the yummiest (最美味的) treats imaginable. He happened to stop by when my friends Mareya and Daniel, my little sister Indi and I were drawing with chalk in front of my house. He said our drawings were cool, while trying not to step on them as he walked toward the door to find my dad. We expressed our thanks and continued to draw.

A little while later, when he came back out with my dad, Rafael said he had been thinking about our wonderful drawings, and that he’d really love our help. He was going to sell cookies, and the profits would go to an organization that worked to save the rainforests. When asked if he wanted us to help taste the cookies, Rafael laughed and said “Of course”. But he said he also needed some artwork for the bags. He wondered if we would be up for making some sketches (草图) on paper that he could consider for the label.

We said yes right away. I mean, who wouldn’t want to help the rainforests — and sample some of Rafael’s delicious cookies? Rafael had to leave for a meeting but promised to be back by four o’clock. “Don’t worry about making the pictures perfect,” he said as he left. “Just have fun drawing.”

After we read a little bit about the rainforests, my mom helped get us set up with art supplies and background music. And away we drew! Finally, about five minutes before four o’clock, we decided to stop and look at one another’s work. To our great surprise, Daniel made an incredible drawing. When asked why he never told us he could draw like that, Daniel just smiled. He said he was glad we liked it and that he thought all of ours were really awesome too.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
