1 . Young children across the globe enjoy playing games of hide and seek. For them there’s something highly exciting about _________ someone else’s glance and making oneself unable to be seen.

However, we all witness that preschool children are remarkably _________ at hiding. They often cover only their eyes with their hands, leaving the rest of their bodies _________.

For a long time, this ineffective hiding method was _________ as evidence that children are hopelessly “egocentric” (自我中心的) creatures. But our _________ research results in child developmental psychology _________ that idea. We brought young children aged 2—4 into our Minds in Development Lab at USC. Each _________ sat down with an adult who covered her own eyes or _________. We then asked the child if she could _________ or hear the adult. Surprisingly, children replied that they couldn’t. The same ____________ happened when the adult covered her own mouth: ____________ children said that they couldn’t ____________ to her.

A number of ____________ ruled out (排除) that the children misunderstood what they were being asked. The results were clear: Our young subjects ____________ the questions and knew ____________ what was asked of them. 2 . During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people under lockdown feel lonely and bored. “There is a loneliness epidemic,” said John Dattilo from Pennsylvania State University, US. So he, together with an international team of researchers, studied how to reduce loneliness and increase positive feelings during the pandemic.

According to their new study, reducing loneliness has something to do with doing enjoyable activities that require both concentration (注意力) and skill. When people are absorbed in what they are doing, they enter a state called “flow”, Dattilo explained. “Flow can be achieved by doing activities that we value and that requires us to concentrate fully to use our skills.”

To achieve a state of flow, there must be a balance between the challenge of the task and your skill level. For example, if you’re trying to create a complex (复杂的) computer program but your skill level is low, then you’re likely to feel stressed instead of achieving “flow”. On the contrary(相反地), if the task is too easy, then boredom will set in and “flow” will not appear, either. If you have artistic skills, for example, playing the piano or painting can lead to flow. So can things like skiing, writing and storytelling, depending on who you are.

“When we center a state of flow, we become focused, and we experience momentary enjoyment,” Dattilo said. “When we leave a state of flow, we are often surprised by how much time has passed.” However, watching television usually doesn’t help people enter flow, according to Dattilo, because there aren’t any challenges.

“People tend to thrive (茁壮成长) on healthy activities and challenge,” said Dattilo. “We hope this research will help people live fuller, happier, healthier lives”.

Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways.When people cheat,it’s not fair to other people，like the kids who studied for the test or who the true winners of a game were.

Many people like the action of cheating.In their opinion,it makes difficult things seem easy,like getting all the right answers on the test.But it doesn't solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won't help on the next test—unless the person cheats again.

Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them.The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they shouldn't get that good grade.And,if they get caught cheating,they will be in trouble at school，and maybe at home,too.

Some kids cheat because they're busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying.Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating.Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating,cheating isn’t a good idea.

If you were sick or upset about something the night before the day and couldn’t study,it would be better to talk with the teacher about this.And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice,you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together.Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.

4 . Exercise and I had never had a good relationship due to my fear of sports. From a young age, my dad _______ me into a dozen sports. I didn’t like any of them, _______.
