Liuchixiang, a 2-meter-wide alley in Anhui’s Tongcheng City, is a location in China    4    has its own story of harmony.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了“心流状态”这一心理活动现象,指的是你没有走神,完全专注于这个活动,以至于你甚至没有意识到你自己。介绍了“心流状态”发生的条件以及缺点。

2 . Have you ever spent half an hour searching the Internet which, as you find out afterwards, lasted three hours, or opened a book shortly after breakfast and a little while later noticed that the room was getting darker?

Most people can remember experiencing such a state. Your mind wasn't wandering; you were totally focused and concentrated on that activity, to such an extent that you were not even aware of yourself. Psychologists call these fully absorbing experiences flow states, which were discovered and named by a world-famous psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. His celebrated book Flow: The Psychology of Happiness became an instant best-seller, making its way to the top self-help classics.

The state of flow happens under very specific conditions-when we encounter a challenge that is testing for our skills, and yet our skills and capacities are such that it is just about possible to meet this challenge. So both the challenge and the skills are at high levels, stretching us almost to the limit. If challenges exceed skills, one can become anxious. If skills exceed challenges, we usually become bored. Neither of these two cases result in flow.

What is also interesting in flow is the almost total absence of emotions during the actual process. One seems to be almost beyond experiencing emotions, most likely because the awareness of self is not present. Mihaly himself is also very much aware of the potential negative impact of the flow. One philosopher once describes his own experience of flow: “When I get totally involved in the conversation, I am not aware of myself, the world around or the passage of time. Sometimes, I may become addictive to that existence, unwilling to cope with other daily routines of life, like forgetting dinner, and saying goodbye to my children.”

1. What is the purpose of Paragraph 1?
A.To offer a general background of the topic.B.To make an overall outline for the passage.
C.To introduce the topic of the passage.D.To clarify the definition of the topic.
2. In which of the following experience can we enter "flow state"?
A.Adopting a dog.B.Watching TV.
C.Playing the chess.D.Arguing with others.
3. What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A.The state of flow is little conditional.B.Genius at normal schools often gets bored.
C.Challenges at high levels push us to the limit.D.Skills play the most important part in flow.
4. Why does the writer quote the philosopher's words?
A.To show the drawbacks of the flow.B.To stress the value of self-awareness.
C.To underline the absence of emotions.D.To indicate the difficulty of enjoying the flow.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

From an early age, Patti Wilson was told that she was an epileptic (癫痫患者). However, she was a lively and enthusiastic girl, looking at her illness as simply “an inconvenience”. She never focused on what she had lost, but on what she had left. One day, Patti said to her father, who was a morning jogger, “Daddy, I’d really love to run with you every day, but I’m afraid I’ll have an epileptic fit.”

Her father told her, “Don’t worry, my girl. I know how to handle it! Let’s start running then!”

It was a wonderful experience for the father and daughter to run together every day. After a few weeks, the ambitious girl told her father, “Daddy, What I’d really love to do is to break the world’s long-distance running record for women.” The father checked the Guinness Book of World Records and found that the farthest any woman had run was 80miles.

That year, she completed her run to San Francisco, which is a distance of 400 miles. She was wearing a T-shirt, reading, “I Love Epileptics”. Her father ran every mile at her side, and her mom, a nurse, followed in a motor home behind them in case anything went wrong. But nothing happened at all while she was running.

As a senior high school student, Patti announced that she was determined to run from her hometown up to the White House, which is a distance of more than 3000 miles away. Her classmates got behind her. They built a giant poster that read, “Run, Patti, Run!” This has since become her motto and the title of a book she later has written.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。研究人员发现用弱电流反复刺激成年人的大脑,可以使记忆改善持续长达一个月。

4 . People’s ability to remember fades with age — but one day, researchers might be able to use a simple, drug-free method to buck this trend.

In a study published on 22 August in Nature Neuroscience, Robert Reinhart, a cognitive neuroscientist at Boston University in Massachusetts, and his colleagues demonstrate that zapping(刺激) the brains of adults aged over 65 with weak electrical currents repeatedly over several days led to memory improvements that persisted for up to a month.

Using a non-invasive method of stimulating the brain known as transcranial alternating current stimulation (TACS), which delivers electrical currents through electrodes on the surface of the scalp, Reinhart’s team conducted a series of experiments on 150 people aged between 65 and 88. Participants carried out a memory task in which they were asked to recall lists of 20 words that were read aloud by an experimenter. The participants underwent TACS for the entire duration of the task, which took 20 minutes.

After four continuous days of this protocol, participants who received high-frequency stimulation of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(背外侧前额叶皮质) had an improved ability to remember words from the beginning of the lists, a task that depends on long-term memory. Low-frequency zaps to the inferior parietal lobe(顶下小叶) enhanced participants’ recall of items later in the lists, which involves ‘working’ memory — the memory that allows the brain to store information temporarily. Participants’ memory performance improved over the four days — and the gains persisted even a month later. Those who had the lowest levels of general cognitive function before the study experienced the largest memory improvements.

“I was both impressed and surprised by this, by this paper,” says Simon Hanslmayr, a cognitive neuroscientist at the University of Glasgow, UK. He notes that along with other scientists, he has been sceptical about whether TACS can lead to meaningful changes in cognition. One issue has been that TACS devices generate electrical currents much weaker than those created by other methods of stimulating the brain, so it hasn’t always been clear whether they can transmit enough electricity to the brain to modify its function. However, the authors of this study convincingly showed that their protocol was linked to “consistent and quite strong improvements in memory”, Hanslmayr says.

1. What does the underlined word “buck” mean in paragraph 1?
A.Operate.B.Destroy.C.Follow.D.Resist.
2. What can we learn about the experiments?
A.The experiments involved people aged over 65 and young students with good memory.
B.Participants were required to recall lists of 20 words when they read the words aloud.
C.Stimulating the inferior parietal lobe with low-frequency boosted the short-term memory.
D.High-frequency stimulation of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex improved ‘working’ memory.
3. Why has Simon Hanslmayr been sceptical about TACS?
A.The electricity sent by TACS is not sufficient to guarantee meaningful changes in cognition.
B.The people who have poor cognitive function experienced the least memory improvements.
C.TACS devices generate electrical currents as weak as those created by other methods.
D.TACS devices cannot ensure consistent and quite strong improvements in memory.
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.TACS can lead to meaningful changes in cognition.
B.TACS can help people with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
C.Brain stimulation leads to long-lasting improvements in memory.
D.Brain stimulation benefits those with poor cognitive function most.

                                                                                                                                                                                       Being Planted

“106!” The cry of disappointment breaks the silence of the peaceful night.

In darkness, he stands still there, with tears dropping continuously from his eyes.

He is a 5th-year Ph.D. student majoring in biology. This is his 106th attempt to cultivate strawberries which could bear extreme climates. In his 105th experiment, he did all the pre-processes that he knew which could lead him closer to his goal. Every generation of the strawberry seemed to bring him closer to success, but every time the result was alike — failure, failure, failure. He has literally got used to it. But this time, he can hardly help feeling frustrated and angry.

“Who stole my experimental strawberry!”

Last night, when he got to the field, he was thrilled. Although most of the plants were obviously dying, one plant stood vigorously in the middle of the experimental field. The plant was labeled “Plant No. 106” . What a coincidence! In his 106th attempt, the 106th plant was finally mutating (变异) in its ideal way — the spark of hope, to him.

Last night, Plant No. 106’s fruit started to turn red. He was never so close to success. What he needed to do was to wait for several days to harvest that pink, shiny, attractive fruit.

But this night, the fruit disappears. So does his hope.

“3 years’ effort!   1096 days’ struggling! 13152 hours’ DNA editing and experiment. ALL GONE!” he murmurs to himself. He regrets that he didn’t get a small sample of the stolen strawberry last night.

Now he is using his fingers to dig the ground. He doesn’t know why he is doing so. He is well aware that the results of the past 106 attempts are all wasted because of the incident and his not taking the sample in time. He has no seeds left. At the present, he seems to have only 2 choices: to start from the very beginning, or to give up.

1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;

文章大意:本文时一篇说明文。研究发现,吃全蛋比只吃蛋白更有利于肌肉的修复和增长。

10 . On the “healthy” section of any breakfast menu, you’re bound to spot an egg white omelet (煎蛋卷). With no fat and just a quarter of the calories in a whole egg, the whites look like the best choice at first glance. Not so fast, though new research shows a good reason why you might want to keep the yolk (蛋黄) in if you want to get fit. Plus, forget the bad impression that the cholesterol (胆固醇) in yolks has gotten in the past. The USDA removed limits on dietary cholesterol in its most recent dietary guidelines. It’s all because evidence doesn’t back up claims that the cholesterol you eat has much influence on blood cholesterol levels.

In a recent study, researchers had ten young men eat either whole eggs or egg whites after completing a strength-training workout. Both egg choices contained 18 grams of protein, and the eggs were developed with chemical markers. Thanks to them, the researchers tracked how the men’s bodies used amino acids (氨基酸) from the eggs and egg whites, and found some surprising results. About 65 to 70 percent of amino acids were available in the blood for both the whole egg and egg white groups suggesting they’d be equally useful in building muscles. But the rest of the results didn’t back up that conclusion.

When the researchers looked specifically at how much protein synthesis — the process that helps muscles repair and grow — occurred, one form of egg clearly did better than the other. “Having whole eggs immediately after exercise resulted in greater protein synthesis than just having egg whites,” says lead study author Nicholas Burd in a statement.

Although this study was too small I to be conclusive, its conclusion backs up whole egg benefits that nutritionists have been praising for years. From their point of view egg whites are high-protein, low-calorie, but the yolk contains nearly all of an egg’s vitamins. And one study found that adults who eat whole eggs in the morning lose more weight and body fat than those who get the same number of calories from a bread-based breakfast. While no large studies have looked into the weight-loss benefits of whole eggs vs egg whites, there’s also no evidence that the 140 calories in two whole large eggs should scare you away. Crack on, egg lovers.

1. What’s implied in Paragraph 1?
A.The whites can help people have a good shape.
B.The yolk’s function is different from the whites.
C.People tend to consider the yolk to be unhealthy.
D.The yolk has much to do with blood cholesterol levels.
2. Why were the eggs developed with chemical markers?
A.To help process the proteins better.
B.To make them healthier for people.
C.To track the amino acids during digestion.
D.To help the body consume amino acids.
3. The findings of the recent study mainly show that_________.
A.amino acids are easy to get in eggs
B.eating the whole egg helps build muscles
C.the yolk of the egg is better than the white
D.eggs can produce more proteins than any other kinds of food_________.
4. What would be the best title for the text?
A.Egg Whites VS Whole Eggs
B.Egg White Omelets or Just the Yolk
C.The Correct Way to Build Muscles
D.Unknown Facts about Egg White Omelets
