China’s space programme started later than those of Russia and the US, but it has made great     1     in a short time. China became the third country in the world to     2     send humans into space in 2003, when Yang Liwei successfully     3     Earth in the Shenzhou 5 spacecraft. Then Shenzhou 6 and 7 completed     4     second manned orbit and the first Chinese spacewalk,     5     by the vehicle Jade Rabbit being sent to the moon to study its surface. After that, China     6     the Tiangong 2 space lab into space and Tianzhou1 to dock     7     it. This     8     one step further in China’s plan to     9     a space station in the future. More recently, China has sent Chang’e 4 to explore the surface of the far side of the moon to make     10     and observations.

When I was a freshman I joined Volunteers for Wildlife, a rescue and education     1     (社团) at my college. Trying to help injured or sick creatures can be heartbreaking, for     2     (存活) is never certain. However, when it works, it surely b    3     the creatures and us.

I got a rescue call from a woman in Mutton town. She had found a young owl on the ground by a    4    . When I arrived, I saw a 2-to-3-week-old owl. I put some pine branches m    6     with grass into the basket to make this nest comfortable. I placed the chick in the nest, and it quickly calmed down.

Now what the chick needed was     7     (情感的) company. I gave the homeowner a recording of the hunger screams of owl chicks. It was i    8     to attract the chick’s parents and encourage our chick to start calling as well.

Much to my r    9    , the homeowner called next day, saying that the parents had responded to the recordings. I drove over and what i    10     me most was an active chick accompanied by its lunch in the nest. The parents had done their duty and would probably continue to do so.

The virtual choir was the idea of award-winning composer and     1     Eric Whitacre.     2     in the USA on 2 January 1970, Whitacre began study music at the University of Nevada in 1988. He     3     in love with Mozart’s classical music     4     he sang for the university choir.     5     by this music, he said, “It was like seeing color for the first time.” He graduated     6     university in 1995, and then     7     a master’s degree in musical composition from the Juilliard School in New York in 1997. Over the next 10 years, Whitacre’s     8     compositions began to become quite     9     among choirs and singers. This     10     to the creation of the virtual choir.
