Peking University will be the first Chinese university to open an oversea branch in Oxford next year.

According to Peking University, its HSBC Business School has got a campus in Oxford from the Open University in Britain. This purchase comes as the government steps up efforts to build globally famous universities that will lead the world in teaching and research.

Society: Quake-hit areas given a new life

Visitors to Qinglongchang village in Longmen township in Lushan, a county in Sichuan Province, will be able to appreciate the new houses built for the residents following reconstruction work after an earthquake, which broke out on April 20, 2013. With the backing of governments at different levels, 232 centralized resettlement areas with brand-new houses were built for farmers within three years of the quake.

3 . Bird House Keeper Internship

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s. Bird House is looking for qualified interns (实习生) who are interested in developing zoo professional skills in animal care. Interns play an important role in animal conservation and have the unique opportunity to aid animal care staff in various responsibilities.

Interns will:

•Experience and learn all aspects of animal husbandry (畜牧业)

•Learn and follow animal and keeper safety guidelines and operations

•Complete a project and present findings to bird staff

• Perform other duties

Support will be given to any intern who wishes to pursue the publication of their project results at the cud of the internship.

Qualifications:

Strong preference will be given to undergraduate and graduate students or recent graduates pursuing a career in a related field.

•Previous animal experience in a zoo preferred but not required

•Flexible, reliable, self-motivated and a team player

•Ability to follow oral and written instructions

•Able to establish and maintain an effective relationship with people

• Strong written and oral communication

Stipend (津贴):

This is an unpaid internship. Interns will be responsible for all transportation costs and personal health insurance.

Housing:

The intern will make his or her own housing arrangements in the Washington, D.C., area.

Parking:

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo and the Smithsonian Institution do not provide free parking to interns.

Term of appointment:

This is a three-month internship with the possibility of extending (延长) to six months. Interns must be able to commit 30-40 hours per week, including holidays and weekends.

Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, Clinton

It houses more than 20 exhibits. Kids can play with more than 10,000 KAPLA blocks, climb aboard the Brio Train Engine, make a bubble as tall as they are, play three holes of golf and more. Open Wednesday - Sunday.

Iowa Children’s Museum, Coralville

Kids are inspired to imagine, create, discover and explore through the Power of Play at the Iowa Children’s Museum in Coralville. Fifteen play areas give kids the opportunity to create what they want, build with Lego blocks, and play many kinds of musical instruments. Open Tuesday - Sunday.

Union Pacific Railroad Museum, Council Bluffs

Lots of hands-on, please-DO-touch exhibits mean parents can breathe easy as their kids explore the history of the Union Pacific Railroad in Council Bluffs. In the Building America exhibit, kids and adults can try their hands at driving a spike or explore timelines. The Lincoln Collection includes furniture from President Abraham Lincoln’s rail car, photographs, and more. Open Tuesday - Saturday.
