1 . One of my all time favorite holiday destinations is the Gold Coast. With its beautiful beaches, mountain hinterland and theme parks, the variety from one location to another is fantastic! And it’s also important that its like a playground for my children.

The Gold Coast certainly offers something for every member of our family. We all love heading down to the beach for an early morning swim or surf. The beaches feature some of the softest golden sand and pumping waves, making them ideal for surfing. Safety is important especially when I'm out with the kids, and I feel better knowing that lifeguards are continually on patrol(巡逻). The long coas also offer the perfect setting for a leisurely walk at sunset-a favorite activity of mine.

Then, of course, there’s the bargain-hunting in the city’s center. For shoppings goers there are amazing shopping centers boutiques and the usual chain stores. I always pick up loads of goodies at Pacific Fair.

The Gold Coast is popular for its theme parks-Sea World, Wamer Bros Movie World and Dream World. The seal and dolphin presentations at Sea World keep both children and adults on the edge of their seats as the sea creatures go through a series of complicated jumps, flips and rolls. It’s great entertainment and an educational window to the underwater world for the kids. Our kids also enjoy meeting the characters at Movie World and watching how real movies are made.

Night-time is equally fun, as we usually set off to find the best local restaurants and cafes. The mix of cultures and influences has given the Gold Coast a wide variety of choices, including modem Australian, Italian, Asian and seafood, although sometimes nothing beats fish and chips!

2 . Amsterdam is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world and famous for its beautiful canals, top art museums, and cycling culture. It is the capital and most populous city in the Netherlands and often referred to as the “Venice of the North” because of its wide system of bridges and canals. Here are some of the key points to remember as you plan your trip to Amsterdam.

Must-See Attractions

Most visitors begin their Amsterdam adventure in the Old Centre, which is full of traditional architecture, shopping centers, and coffee shops. The top museums to visit are the Rijks museum, the Ann Frank House, and the Van Gogh Museum. The Canal Ring is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was originally built to attract wealthy home owners and an area for celebrity spotting and nightlife today.

Transportation

Travelers should be aware that Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of the busiest airports in the world. This airport is located about 15 kilometers southwest of the city center. You can catch a train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Central Station, which has many connecting routes. It’s typically not a good idea to drive a car to the city center. Cycling is incredibly popular here, and it’s easy to find cheap bike rentals around the town. Amsterdam has a flat terrain(地形) and it’s a good choice to explore the city on foot.

Money-saving Tips

● Look for accommodations in Amsterdam’s South District^ where rates are generally cheaper than in the city center.

● Buy train tickets at the machine instead of the counter to save a bit of money

● Instead of hiring a tour guide, jump onto a canal boat. They’re inexpensive and will give you a unique point of view of the city.

Check at http://wmv. save70. com to view price comparisons for flights, hotels, and rental cars before you book.

3 . I’ve personally traveled through many countries that have had U.S. government warnings issued for them, and I’ve been perfectly safe. Specifically, in the last year, I have travelled safely to both the Philippines and Mexico, and traveled to many South Pacific islands during the tropical cyclone (热带气旋) season and only experienced two days of light rain in six months!. This is, of course, anecdotal, so it’s important that you do your research before booking your trip.

One thing I recommend doing is checking for recent posts on travel forums (论坛), such as Lonely Planet’s Thorntree, to see what people are saying about the country you’ll visit in terms of safety. The U.S. government may make out that an entire country is extremely unsafe when in reality, it’s a small part of it that tourists will be unlikely to visit. Read the travel warnings, too, to see which parts of the country the government recommends that you avoid.

Additionally, it’s worth speaking to your travel insurance provider before you leave to check that you’ll be covered during your travels to these countries. Some insurance companies won’t cover you if there’s a severe warning for the country, but some will. Travel insurance is a necessity, so it’s definitely something to check out before you leave.

Keep in mind that the U.S. government will help you with emergency evacuation (撤离) from a troubled country, but it comes in the form of a repatriation (归国) loan via the Office of American Citizens Services and Crisis Management (ACS), which can be called to rescue you from a bad situation abroad. Remember by heart that you’ll have to wait overseas for the money to arrive and eventually repay the loan once you’re home safely. Just another reason to get travel insurance!

1. What should you do before a travel according to Paragraph 1?
A.Make a good route plan.B.Read the travel books first.
C.Ask the government for help.D.Make a careful study of the trip.
2. What does the author advise you to check for on travel forums?
A.Travel safety.B.Lonely planet.
C.Tourist places.D.Weather forecast.
3. Why is it necessary to know about travel insurance companies?
A.They sometimes offer bad service.
B.They may provide false information.
C.They seldom talk with customers.
D.Some of them don’t cover all the countries.
4. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Getting travel insurance is the best choice.
B.U.S government is very generous.
C.It’s easy to escape from a troubled country.
D.ACS will repay the loan for you.

Additionally, ecotourism can provide a practical economic development alternative for local communities with few other income-generating options. Besides, ecotourism can increase the level of education and activism (积极) among travelers.    5

6 . Camping wild is a wonderful way to experience the natural world and, at its best, it makes little environmental influence. But with increasing numbers of people wanting to escape into the wilderness, it is becoming more and more important to camp unobtrusively (不引人注目地) and leave no mark.

Wild camping is not permitted in many places, particularly in crowded low-land Britain. Wherever you are, find out about organizations responsible for managing wild spaces, and contact them to find out their policy on camping and shelter building. For example, it is fine to camp wild in remote parts of Scotland, but in England you must ask the landowner's permission, except in national parks.

Camping is about having relaxation, sleeping outdoors, experiencing bad weather, and making do without modern conveniences. A busy, fully-equipped campsite (野营地) seems to go against this, so seek out smaller, more remote places with easy access to open spaces and perhaps beaches. Better still, find a campsite with no road access; walking in makes a real adventure.

Finding the right spot to camp is the first step to guaranteeing a good night's sleep. Choose a campsite with privacy and minimum influence on others and the environment. Try to use an area where people have obviously camped before rather than creating a new spot. When camping in woodland, avoid standing dead trees, which may fall on a windy night. Avoid animal runs and caves, and possible homes of biting insects. Make sure you have most protection on the windward side. If you make a fire, do so downwind of your shelter. Always consider what influence you might have on the natural world. Avoid damaging plants. A good campsite is found, not made—changing it should be unnecessary.

1. You needn't ask for permission when camping in ________.
A.national parks in EnglandB.most parts of Scotland
C.crowded low-land BritainD.most parts of England
2. The author thinks that a good campsite is one ________.
A.with easy accessB.used previously
C.with modern conveniencesD.far away from beaches
3. The passage is mainly about ________.
A.the protection of campsitesB.the importance of wild camping
C.the human influence on campsitesD.the dos and don'ts of wild camping

7 . The least-visited countries in the world

It’s every traveler’s dream — a corner of the planet still undisturbed by tourists. And obviously, such places do exist. The United Nations World Tourism Organization lately reported the four least-visited countries globally.

Liechtenstein (69,000)

The sixth smallest country in the world is also one of the most undiscovered.

Lying between Austria and Switzerland, Liechtenstein is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground. It’s the only country in the world to be totally in the Alps and a summer destination for hiking and cycling and snow-covered skiing perfection in winter, for those who can afford it.

French Guiana (199,000)

French Guiana is the least-visited country in South America, with some of the world’s most diverse plant and animal life.

While there is much to attract tourists to the area, not least its miles of jungle, the construction is in need of some attention.

Montserrat (9,000)

Once a popular holiday spot, this Lesser Antilles island has never quite recovered from a series of natural disasters. Hurricane Hugo in 1989 hit 90 per cent of the island and in 1995 the Soufriere Hills volcano erupted.

These days, its volcano is now actually one of Montserra’s main attractions, together with its beautiful beaches. Visitors can also go diving in its clear waters.

Comoros (24,000)

This collection of islands in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar serves as the perfect destination for those who want to get away from everyday city life.

Comoros offers beautiful volcanic scenery, fruitful forests, and remote sleepy towns. There are even some of the best undiscovered reefs(礁) just waiting to be explored by divers.

1. Which country is the best choice for snow skiing lovers?
A.Montserrat.B.Comoros.
C.Liechtenstein.D.French Guiana.
2. What do we know about French Guiana?
A.It has a rich diversity of species.

9 . Tips for Cycle Trips

Cycling has many advantages as a form of travel, as it is the fastest way to travel by human power, and slow enough to allow the type of local involvement that is impossible with powered travel. Cycle travel is a cheap form of transportation.

Distance

On level terrain(地形), without a headwind, a cyclist of average fitness on a touring bike can comfortably cover 60-120km a day. Distances of up to 250km a day are possible, but anything much beyond 120km will require considerable physical tension and not allow many stops to enjoy the places you visit. For many, 80-100km a day will be the most suitable distance to aim for, as it will give a sense of achievement and also leave plenty of time for meals and activities.

Geography

The gradient(坡度)of the trip will reduce your range. A basic rule is that for every 100 metres of altitude you climb, you should add an extra 15 minutes to your journey time. In hilly or mountainous areas, the easiest routes for cycling are downstream along major rivers, as overall they will be downhill. A long, roundabout route along a river will usually be easier than a short, direct route over a hill or mountain pass. However, it is worth bearing in mind that the most scenic routes often come from hilly terrain.

Eat

Food choice depends largely on where you are, so see the respective sections for more information about foods. As you will be working hard, it’s important to get enough energy in your food. On long trips away from major towns, there may be little quality food available, so be prepared to live on candy bars, prepared meat products and the like if the need arises.

Sleep

While you can take a tent with you, many hotels and especially campsites can accommodate cyclists. However, there are also some hotels that may be less used to accommodating cyclists. If you are exploring an unfamiliar place, asking about the accommodation spares you the search for a new place to stay after a long exhausting day of travel.

1. Which of the following distance does the author suggest to ordinary cyclists a day?
A.90km.B.50km.
C.130km.D.250km.
2. What can we learn from the passage?
A.Cycling over a mountain is challenging but worthy.
B.Hotels seldom provide accommodation for cyclists.
C.High quality food is easy to get on long trips.
D.It takes cyclists 15 minutes to climb 10m of altitude.
3. Where can we probably read this passage?
A.In a geography book.B.In a research report.
C.In a travel magazine.D.In a science fiction.

10 . Some of my fondest memories with my family are from when I was in middle school, when the three of us enjoyed trips that I remember vividly to this day. But during my younger days, like 4 or 5 years old, we vacationed in places like Cancun, Jamaica and Hawaii and I can’t tell whether I actually recall those memories or whether I’m filling in the gaps through photo albums.

A frequent discussion I have with my coworkers and friends, who are also in their 20s, is how we wish our parents had taken us on more vacations when we were much older. What I suggest is to hold off on those grand vacations until your kid is about 12, when they can begin to understand what a privilege is, and you can save the international travel until they’re in high school. Of course, I do understand that sometimes, it’s not the kids but the parents who just want to enjoy a vacation. But in other cases, when the main goal is to create family memories, you can still accomplish that in other ways.

It wasn’t until college that I realized how important travel is, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about wanting to redo those family trips now. Especially during a time in my life when an international trip is outside of my budget, I think about how much money my parents spent on our vacations that ended up being a complete blur.

I’m not telling you to deprive(剥夺) your children of fun family memories, either. I’m simply arguing that you should travel locally or within your state. Although your little ones might not care about the destination, they will remember that you are all together and have a great time. That’s the   most important thing, anyway.

1. When recalling the previous trip to Hawaii, the author may feel _____________ .
A.disappointedB.excited
C.touchedD.frightened
2. What time does the author think is the right time for children to travel abroad?
A.When they start to go to school.
B.When they are 4 or 5 years old.
C.When they study in high school.
D.When they are eager to have a trip.
3. What does the underlined word “blur” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Jokes that are made between families.
B.Efforts that are made to achieve a goal.
C.Memories that can’t be remembered clearly.
D.Expectations that may be reached in future.
4. What may be the best title for the text?
A.Create Chances of Vacations with Children
B.My Memories of Previous Vacations
C.Older Children Hope to Travel with Their Parents
D.Take Children on Vacation until They Are Old
