2 . I really place many people into two categories when it comes to shopping. The first is people who simply love doing window shopping and do it quite regularly maybe because they are really good at spotting bargains. The other category, which I suppose is obvious that people who simply dislike shopping for anything. They find it very boring, and frustrating and do not particularly like going to their local shopping malls for anything. They will probably do anything to try and get away with shopping for gifts and I had the same problem until I discovered something.
The simple discovery was to shop online for everything. This is especially fantastic when you are shopping online for gifts because there are so many websites out there dedicated to(致力于)supplying all kinds of gifts for every occasion you can think of. The greatest thing is that you can do this from the comfort of your own home without having to leave and sit at a computer with a nice mug of coffee to help. Researching is always important because you need to make sure whoever you are going to purchase this before is going to like it. You need to make sure of your researched pricing to ensure that you are getting good value for money. Generally, online you will always find things cheaper than buying something in a store in your local shopping mall. The fact that the website does not have many overheads with staffing and rent(租赁)gives them the opportunity to sell products at a reduced price.
It’s also important that you make sure the website you purchase things from has a good reputation. Check their customer service and also read any feedback that they may have from customers who have already made a purchase.

3 . Africa is often called the cradle(摇篮)of civilization. The first human beings appeared on the continent about 2 million years ago. Old civilizations grew along the banks of the Nile River. Thousands of years ago ancient Egypt became a powerful empire, to the south Nubia emerged(出现)in today’s Sudan. After 1000 AD, great empires emerged in Ghana and other areas in western Africa. City-states, including Mogadishu and Zanzibar, grew into powerful trading centers in East Africa. Towards the end of the Middle Ages the first Europeans came to Africa. From the early 1500s on, they made money by bringing slaves to North America. The British, Dutch and Portuguese set up trading posts along the western African coast where they searched for gold and ivory. In the 17th century, the Dutch set up a trading post at the Cape of Good Hope. It grew into a Dutch colony(殖民地)until the 19th century, when the British took over. At the end of the 19th century, Europeans ruled most of Africa. They saw the continent as a major source of raw materials that they could bring back to Europe for their emerging industries. As a result, the Industrial Revolution did not take place in Africa. Throughout the colonial period, European countries fought for influence and control in Africa. In the “Scramble(争夺)for Africa”, they divided the continent into areas of interest. Native Africans often resisted colonial governments and in many areas, they were killed in uprisings(起义).
One of the last countries to gain independence was Rhodesia, today’s Zimbabwe, where blacks fought for over a decade against the British. In South Africa, white Europeans gave up control of the country after Apartheid(种族隔离)ended in the 1990s.
Many African countries did not know how to deal with their newly gained independence, largely because they had no experience in administrating and governing a nation. As a result, civil wars, tribal(部落的)conflicts and power struggles broke out. They resulted in dozens of wars in Africa since the 1960s.

Maria Eugenia Cabrera Catalán in particle physics. For her work focusing on the study of physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. In her research, she has been focusing on the phenomenological study of new physics models that propose solutions to open questions about the Higgsboson, which can help explain why the fundamental particles have mass, as well as questions about dark matter.
Khongorzul Dorjgotoy in financial mathematics and mathematical modeling. For her research in fractional calculus(微积分), differential equations, special functions invariant solutions, mathematical modeling and financial mathematics. “I found it very hard to have my voice heard. Most people ignore women’s ideas and voices,” said Dr. Dorjgotov. “Now, I hope attitudes will change and my opinions will matter.”
Ghada Dushaq in applied physics and nanotechnology. For her work in solid state physics, applied physics, photonics and optoelectronics, nanotechnology and on optical materials and devices. She has developed a novel method for bandgap engineering using nanoindentation as a complete physical technique. Dr. Dushaq said, “It is truly rewarding to feel that all the hard work, devotion to my research has really paid off. Also, it motivates me to continue struggling for excellence in my academic and professional pursuits and encourage young girls in advancement of their career.”
Marian Asantewah Nkansah in environmental remediation(补救)strategies. For her work on pollutants in water, food, soil, and the atmosphere. Remediation techniques are needed when there is no space for prevention and this is the right response in the case where, like Ghana, countries are suffering pollution from different sources and with different nature. Her research involves analytical sample preparation, determination of contamination levels and interaction of contaminants in water, food, soil, the atmosphere and other environmental matrices.

Bruce had a sweet tooth during his childhood, but it was not just sugary snacks that he desired. Being raised in a poor family was a bittersweet experience, but it gave him adaptability and ambition.
When Bruce was young, his mother would tell him that the candies in the store’s checkout line belonged to the cashier. She said that because she could not afford a 50-cent chocolate bar. Nevertheless, he saw through her trick and made a promise that he would grow up to be wealthy enough to buy what his family needed.
Bruce’s father worked hard to make money outside, so he spent less time at home. Instead of focusing on their economic instability, Bruce’s mother selflessly pushed her children to strive for success so that they could lead a more comfortable life later. She worked for long hours every night and struggled to pay the minimum due on her bills. Still, she would find time to read with Bruce and his sister, Alice. Their mother taught them the value of perseverance, education, and moral fibre. Despite lack of their father’s company, they were loved and nurtured just as much.
However, not all of life’s milestones were easy. Some, like moving and being helpless, left Bruce with an endless bitter taste. He had to deal with many problems when they moved into Maryland, several states away from their roots in Georgia, to make a living. The first few months were great: baseball games, family trips to the mall, dinners, movies, etc. It felt like they were the perfect family. Then things changed. Baseball games were too expensive, and trips to the mall were replaced with days Bruce and Alice spent isolated in the study.
As the brother and sister grew up, money was even tighter. They spent many years living in a very poor family setting. Even so, their mother inspired them to keep trying and working academically. They even cooperated with each other and developed a computer system. Alice was joking about patenting it someday. But as the saying goes, “Good things never come easy”, and success requires setbacks.
