1 . Everyone wants to perform well at school. Add these tips to your life and you should be on your way to being a top student!

    1    I cannot stress how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worth adding. Pay attention during class.

Taking notes is important. You don’t need to write down every single word your teacher says but write down what he or she writes on the blackboard, or any special fact you think you might need for a test.    2       In this way, it will help you learn more effectively by thinking about what you are writing.

Don’t skip school. You will be missing courses.    3    However, you will have more work and you have missed lectures. Also, try not to be late for class. It’s most likely that your teacher won’t appreciate it and you will get yourself behind.

Keep a good attitude (态度) towards things. If you have an “ I don’t care about school or this class” attitude, then teachers will be less willing to help you with problems. The same goes for lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to the teacher and other students.     4    

Always ask questions.     5     If you don’t understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent, etc.

On Saturday night, a five-person team of the Chinese e-sports club, with the full name EDward Gaming,     1     (win) the 2021 League of Legends (LoL) World Championship in Iceland. The team has made very good use of the opportunity     2     (share) Chinese culture with the world. At the beginning of the championship, the members of EDG displayed Tai Chi martial arts, launching a “Chinese hurricane” there.

With the popularity of digital technology, new forms of cultural exchanges have been emerging, of which e-sports are of the     3     (hot). Unlike texts and videos, e-sports are understandable around the world, with the barriers of language     4     (break) down. Also e-sports appeal most to those in     5     (they) early 20s, as shown by the celebrations of college students on Saturday night,     6     in turn makes them a good bridge of communication between Chinese youngsters and their peers around the world. More     7    (important), the e-sports industry is sustainable in spreading Chinese culture, as the large audiences mean huge commercial potential.

As early as 2019, Hainan province announced its plan of building     8     international e-sports center. On Nov 5, the 2022 Asian Games Committee announced it had listed eight e-sports     9     events in the Games. As more Chinese star gaming clubs and teams appear, the industry     10     (expect) to further grow and continue spreading Chinese culture to the world.

6 . The Honors Program in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (HPBMB) is offered to mature high school seniors with strong academic ability and achievement who seek careers in biological or biomedical science. Students can earn both a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) in approximately 6 years.

Applicants to the Honors Program in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology must be in their last year of high school.

Undergraduates will have the opportunity to work with top-level research scientists in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and also in clinical laboratories with scientists that are associated with the department. They will conduct intensive laboratory work in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology or nutritional biochemistry starting in the summer before their first fall semester starts. By spring of their junior year；students will prepare an undergraduate thesis as preparation for their entry into graduate school. At that time, they will start taking graduate courses and continue to do research with a graduate faculty member.

To be considered students must:

• have a combined SAT I score of 1400(combined Math and Critical Reading scores)

• meet the SAT II score requirement of at least 600 in Math, and one science (Biology, Chemistry or Physics)

• have completed eight semesters of English and mathematics and two semesters each of Biology and Chemistry by the time they graduate from high school

• complete all components of your Common Application for undergraduate admission by November 1 of your senior year

• complete a supplemental application form for the Honors Program in Bio chemistry & Molecular Biology

• include a counselor recommendation, three letters of recommendation from teachers in support, of your application to the Honors Program and a personal statement

7 . It's strange, but I don't really remember about the hurricane itself. It all happened so _________. I was sitting in my room when the roof（屋顶）just _________. All of a sudden, there was sky where the roof had been and I was very _________. Without a roof, staying inside was really _________. It was August, so it was really hot and it smelled so _________ everywhere! Living in the _________ air, we became breakfast, lunch and dinner for the mosquitoes（蚊子）. We had lost our home and everything in it. But as Mom kept on _________ us, we were all together and safe. Mom's words made us feel _________. I remember us all lying under the midnight _________ and looking up at the stars. Even though we had lost a lot, moments like those gave us __________ for the future.

Last week, my mother went on business trip in another city and lost her wallet where contained money, credit cards, a driver’s license and other items. Know there was little chance of recovering it, my mother was very upset. However, her wallet was returning in the mail yesterday. The person sent them back at his or her own expense without all the original things in it. Nothing was missing. A note was put in the wallet, saying “Please did something for a stranger and whenever you have the opportunity. ” My mother was grateful to the kind stranger and determined to giving a hand to strangers, either.
