文章大意:这是一篇应用。文章主要从多个角度评述了导演韦斯·安德森的电影《亨利·休格的奇妙故事》。

2 . Good news for all Wes Anderson fans — the US director is back with the film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar which hit Netflix, an online film provider, on Sept 27. It is a film adaptation of UK novelist Roald Dahl’s novel under the same name.

The film stars UK actor Benedict Cumberbatch as a wealthy man named Henry Sugar, who develops the ability to see through objects. At the very beginning he uses this power to cheat at cards and win big while gambling (赌博), and later turns his fortune into a global network of orphanages (孤儿院).

Dialogue style

Running for just 40 minutes, the film features Anderson’s quick-paced dialogue style. He also asked the actors to recite lines directly to the audience by looking at the camera, creating “the effect of listening to a podcast (播客) while turning the pages of a lovely picture book quickly”, commented CNN.

Visual style

Anderson’s work is immediately recognizable for his visual style as well. The “Anderson aesthetic (美学)” often uses bright color palettes (调色板) to both add visual appeal and make various ideas known to the audience, reported Yahoo News. In The Grand Budapest Hotel for example, Anderson uses a color palette of deep blues, rich greens and warm pinks to recreate an old-world European feel. In The Royal Tenenhaums the red tracksuits worn by Chaz, one of the main characters, show deep-seated anger resulting from parental trauma (创伤).

Symmetrical style

Another style is his use of symmetry (对称). Many of the shots involve (涉及) a person facing the camera, with the elements around the character set up in a sense of order and balance. Anderson explained to the media that it is out of his nature to “arrange things in a frame”, which he compares to how people can’t change the individuality of their handwriting. “You might try to write very well, but really, you have something your brain tends to do”, he said.

However, his obsessive repetition of these stylistic choices in his films has led some to question his ability to innovate (创新). In response to this, Anderson stated, “It’s not something I make any effort to do. I just want to make films that are personal but interesting to an audience.”

1. What do we know about the film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar?
A.Watching this film is actually listening to a podcast.
B.It reflects the unique style of the director Wes Anderson.
C.It is based on a real story of a wealthy man named Henry Sugar.
D.Its main character gains nothing in gambling in the end.
2. What’s the similarity between the films The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Royal Tenenbaums?
A.They both use colors to get various ideas across to the audience.
B.They both reflect deep-seated anger.
C.They both present an old-world European feel.
D.They both have colorful costumes to add to their appeal.
3. Why did Anderson use symmetrical style in his films?
A.Out of curiosity.B.Out of innovation.
C.Out of habit.D.Out of kindness.
4. What is the most probable type of the text?
A.A film script.B.A film lecture.
C.A film survey.D.A film review.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My Best Teaching Experience

Tyler was only in my senior class for a semester. He had been suspended (使停学) many times in previous years because of his anger issues. When he entered my class, I thought the worst.

Tyler sat in the back row. Every time I talked to the class, I would ask students questions, calling them by name. Unfortunately, every time I called on Tyler, he would respond with a joke. If he got an answer wrong, he would become angry.

About a month into the year, I was still trying to connect with Tyler. I can usually get students involved in class discussions or at least have them sit quietly and attentively (专心地). By contrast, Tyler was often loud and sometimes rude.

He had been in so much trouble over the years. He expected his teachers to know about his past; about how many times he had been sent to the office or suspended from school. I had found that these sorts of referrals (移交) were not very effective and that students would return from the office behaving worse than before.

One day, Tyler was talking over me while I was teaching. I stopped my lesson and said, “Tyler, why don’t you join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?” With that, he got up from his chair, pushed it over and yelled something. I can’t remember what he said other than that he included some impolite words. I sent Tyler straight to the office, and he received a week’s suspension.

To this point, this was one of my worst teaching experiences. Tyler’s anger was almost too much for me. The week Tyler was suspended from school was a wonderful time, and we got a lot accomplished as a class. However, the suspension week would soon come to an end, and I was fearful of his return.

续写要求:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

On the day of Tyler’s return, I stood at the door awaiting him.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了现在人们容易对健身追踪器上瘾,并建议人们戒除对这些健身追踪器的上瘾。

7 . Smartwatches and fitness trackers (健身追踪器) have gained popularity recently. These tools can record your daily steps, heart rates, etc.     1    . If yes, it might be a sign that you’re addicted to your fitness tracker.

2    . If you keep setting unrealistic daily goals that involve working out for too long, and if you begin to ignore friends and responsibilities to make time for your workout, then you’re most probably addicted to your fitness tracker.

It’s a struggle to overcome the addiction to fitness trackers.     3    . For example, the number in your smart watch showing how far you’ve come can give you a sense of achievement.

Of course, failing to meet your daily goal can be discouraging. You might focus on your shortcoming rather than your progress. Another problem is that you might find yourself paying too much attention to the step number rather than how your body feels.     4    .

Therefore, if you’re spending too much time looking at your smartwatch, limit your daily step count to a comfortable level.     5    . For example, concentrating on your hobbies or socializing with friends can be a great way to keep your mind on other things.

A.How can you tell whether you’re addicted to your fitness tracker?
B.Actually this addiction to step count can be risky, mentally and physically.
C.Don’t overuse your smartwatch.
D.However, do you find yourself checking your steps and heart rates too often?
E.After all, reaching a daily step count can be so appealing.
F.Besides, you can find other things to do that don’t involve checking your fitness tracker.
G.It doesn’t covey what you’re really feeling.

8 . It was a warm evening in August in 1995. Robert Blocker was driving to Yale University after being appointed as the university’s Dean (院长) of Music. He didn’t expect to see many people, but a couple of students met him and showed him around.

“When I looked at the history of the university and how people are devoted to the school’s art programs, I was honored by the chance to work there. I could not wait for the next day to start my job. And that excitement never changed because every day was different. My job as dean was not scheduled. I walked around the campus and students talked to me. I went to rehearsals (排演) by the students and teachers and got inspired by them,” he adds.

After nearly three decades as the Dean of Music at Yale, the 77-year-old retired from the position on Aug 31. 文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章主要论述了人们没有时间参与艺术这种现象以及艺术的重要性,艺术应该是一种生活中的必需品而不是奢侈品。

9 . According to Americans for the Arts, more than two-thirds of U.S. adults say that the arts “lift me up beyond everyday experiences.” Still, only 30 percent attended a concert of any type in 2017; 23 percent visited an art museum; six percent attended a literary event. Fewer than half actively created art of any kind.

What has caused this phenomenon is that we do not have time for art — we are weighed down by our day-to-day responsibilities. Maybe you like to play a little background music while you work but most of us rarely, if ever, went to see a live performance, let alone visited a gallery. And reading poetry? Perhaps not since high school.

Too often, we let the realities of life get in the way of the arts, which can feel insignificant by comparison. But this is a mistake. The arts might be the single most in-depth experience you will ever be given to explore the nature and meaning of life. And if you make time to consume and produce art, you will find your life become fuller and happier.

Some philosophers address the problem of life consumed by work and material pursuits. They argue that art provides relief from this routine, expanding our perspective and bringing us closer to true reality.

Think of a time when you heard a piece of music and wanted to cry. Or recall your fast heartbeats as you stared at a delicate lifelike sculpture. Chances are that it probably stimulated (刺激) a sudden awakening, much like the shock from a lungful of pure oxygen after breathing in smoggy air.

If you are among those who feel that art is “pure pleasure to experience and participate in,” you might see it the same way you see eating out, or skydiving: as a luxury (奢侈品) item in your limited budgets of time and money. As such, it probably gets the same sort of treatment as any minor hobby. Don’t make this error. Treat art more like exercise or sleep: a necessity for a life full of deep satisfaction.

1. What does paragraph 1 focus on?
A.The opinion of U.S. adults about art.
B.The types of art that U.S. adults engage with.
C.The mismatch between value and behaviour as to art.
D.The connection between everyday experiences and art.
2. What is a mistaken idea in the author’s opinion?
A.Art reveals the nature of life.B.Art gives way to material pursuits.
C.Life without art is meaningless.D.Background music is a kind of art.
3. What does the author want to convey in paragraph 5?
A.Art awakes people’s talents.B.Art improves physical health.
C.Art brings us closer to nature.D.Art makes life fuller and happier.
4. What might be the best title?
A.Art: A Habit, Not a LuxuryB.Art: A Bridge, Not a Barrier
C.Art: A Decoration, Not a RealityD.Art: A Pleasure, Not a Burden

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章说明了导致压力和疲惫的原因,以及如何摆脱压力。

10 . If you’re feeling tired and stressed because you have too much going on, like lots of afterschool activities, you will feel better when you give something up. Sometimes lots of activities—even if they’re all fun—can make you feel stressed by keeping you busy all the time. On the other hand, if problems at home are troubling you, in fact some afterschool activities may help you relax and feel better.

There are also relaxing exercises that you can use to keep stress away. The easiest one is to breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. Do this two to four times.

You can do breathing exercises anytime. You can even do breathing exercises in class if you’re nervous before a test.

The best way to keep stress away is to have a balanced life. That means making good decisions about how to spend your time. If you’re always busy with schoolwork and have no time to play, you can get stressed. Make sure you keep yourself in mind: sleep, exercise, leisure (something fun), and food.

If you take care of yourself and get enough sleep and food, and if you exercise and leave time for fun, you’ll probably be less stressed out!

1. What may help if you have problems at home according to the passage?
A.Doing a parttime job.B.Doing some houseworks.
