After graduating from college, I worked as a salesman for a piano company. We advertised our pianos in small town newspapers and then, when we had received many replies, we would load our little trucks, and drive into the area and sell the pianos to those who had replied.
Every time we advertised, we would receive a reply on a postcard which said, “Please bring me a new piano for my little granddaughter. It must be red mahogany (红木). I can pay $10 a month with my egg money.” Of course, we could not sell a new piano for $10 a month. No finance company would carry a contract with payments that small, so we ignored her postcards.
One day, however, I happened to be in that area calling on other replies, and out of curiosity I decided to look the old lady up. I found pretty much what I expected: The old lady lived in a one-room cabin in the middle of a cotton field. The cabin had a dirt floor and there were chickens in the house. Obviously, the old lady could not have qualified to purchase anything on credit — no car, no phone, no real job, nothing but a roof over her head and not a very good one at that.
I could see daylight through it in several places. Her little granddaughter was about 10, barefoot and wearing a feed sack (麻布袋) dress. I explained to the old lady that we could not sell a new piano for $10 a month and that she should stop writing to us every time she saw our ad. I drove away heartsick, but my advice had no effect — she still sent us the same post card every six weeks. Always wanting a new piano, red mahogany, please, and swearing she would never miss a $10 payment. It was sad.
Several years later, I owned my own piano company, and when I advertised in that area, the postcards started coming to me. For months, I ignored them — what else could I do?

3 . Cody Simmons lived alone with his grandpa and the two of them had a very special relationship. Cody’s grandpa encouraged him to pursue football but also made it very clear that he would not have to if he did not want to.
Cody was the smallest in the class and was considered too short. Therefore, everyone was sure Cody could never make the cut when he decided to try out for the school football team. But he did! His grandpa shared his excitement. Though Cody was always on the bench, his grandpa never missed a match.
Cody was determined to give his best at every practice, hoping that he would at least get to play one day. In his free time, Cody would repeatedly watch videos of international football matches to learn skills. Besides, he always asked for extra tips from his coach.

Soon, it was Saturday, and the match was not going well. Then, Cody appeared. He asked the coach to let him play, but the coach pretended not to hear him. There was no way he wanted his worst player in this important match. But the young man persisted, and finally, feeling sorry for Cody, the coach gave in.

Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi. Once, I was called at 3 a.m. to pick someone up. When I arrived, the building was completely dark except for one light in a window. Often, many drivers would just honk ( 按喇叭) once or twice, wait a short minute, then drive away.
But unless a real danger, I always went to the door to find the passenger. It might be someone who needed my assistance. Would I not want a driver to do the same if my mother or father had called for a taxi?
So I walked to the door and knocked. “Just a minute,” answered a weak and elderly voice. I could hear the sound of something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 80s stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase. “Would you carry my bag out to the car?” she said. “I’d like a few moments alone. Then, if you could come back and help me? I’m not very strong.”
I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm, and we walked slowly toward the cab. She kept thanking me for my kindness. “It’s nothing,” I told her. “I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated.”
“Oh, you’re such a good boy,” she said. When we got in the taxi, she gave me an address. Then she asked, “Could you drive through the downtown?”
“It’s not the shortest way,” I answered. “I don’t mind,” she said, “I’m in no hurry. I’m on my way to the nursing home.” I saw her eyes shining with tears. “I don’t have any family left,” she continued. “The doctor says I am too old to live alone.”
I quietly turned off the meter (计程器). “What road do you want me to take?” I asked. “First, take me to Sunrise Street. That’s where I was born.”

6 . While psychologists have studied topics like happiness, optimism, and other human strengths for decades, positive psychology wasn’t officially identified as a branch of psychology until 1998 when Martin Seligman was elected president of the American Psychological Association (APA). Seligman suggested that psychology had become too focused on mental illness. While this had brought about valuable treatments that enabled psychologists to treat a number of diseases and disorders that made people less unhappy. It meant that psychology was neglecting what was good about life—and what the average person could improve.
Seligman called for research into what makes normal people’s lives positive and fulfilling and suggested that the field should develop interventions that could make people happier. He stated that psychology should be just as concerned with nurturing (滋养) the good things in life as it was with healing the bad.
Seligman made positive psychology the theme of his term as APA president and used his role to popularize the word. From there the field took off. It received a great deal of attention from mainstream media outlets. Meanwhile, the first Positive Psychology summit was held in 1999, followed by the first International conference on Positive Psychology in 2002.
Interest in positive psychology has remained high ever since. In 2018, a quarter of the undergraduate students at Yale University enrolled in a course devoted to the subject of happiness. In 2019, 1,600 individuals attended the World Congress of Positive Psychology and research in the field has generated tens of thousands of academic papers.
Psychologist Christopher Peterson pointed out that positive psychology is meant to serve as an extension of the areas of psychology that focus on mental illness and human weakness. Positive psychologists don't wish to replace or abandon the study of human problems, they simply wish to add the study of what’s good in life to the field.

8 . Carbon is a chemical element which is present in organic compounds that make us organisms, plants as well as fossil. It is a vital component of the greenhouse gas CO2, the highest percentage of the global warming gas in the atmosphere.
These Green House Gases (GIIGs) along with other factors are responsible for the most discussed issues affecting the planet, climate change. Climate change has and still releases a huge set of environmental disasters which are fueling the difficulty of survival on the planet. In order to eliminate, reduce and adapt to these risks of survival, individuals, organizations, and countries will have to adopt carbon neutrality measures. The main aim of carbon neutrality is to achieve a net-zero emission either by balancing the emission or absorbing of carbon or quit the production of carbon. However, to really understand carbon neutrality, the carbon cycle should be first understood
The carbon cycle is the transfer of carbon through different media. Carbon has the ability to move in different media in different forms at different rates and tines. These different factors (rate, time, and media) are the phenomena underlying carbon neutrality. For instance, carbon released into the atmosphere by the rapid burning of fossil fills back as rain in the form of carbonate (碳酸盐) and is absorbed by the reservoirs (oceans, surface water, and the earth surface). Even though the exchange of carbon between some of these reservoirs takes a long time, some over 100 years, carbon was absorbed until now. The main problem existing today is that the emissions of CO2 are too high to be offset by the reservoirs, thereby leaving the offsetting task to us.
The European Union (EU) is taking all measures it can to offset carbon through Emission trading system which helps industries to manage their carbon footprints. Similarly, China, which is responsible for 25% of the world's CO2 emissions due to its economic and industrial structure is currently decreasing its energy consumption/GDP and CO2 emission/GDP, while increasing is forest cover and air quality through its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) carbon neutrality actions.

10 . Campeche is a city with a tumultuous history. Originally this area was settled by the Mayans. The first Spanish colonizers arrived in 1517 and established Campeche as the main port in the region. This is the time when it cools down and everyone comes out to see things and to be seen. You'll see couples posing for photographers, joggers, cyclists, elderly people having conversations and groups of teenagers giggling.
Stop for a Bite at Calle 59
Calle 59 is a pedestrian-only street filled with outdoor tables from the surrounding restaurants. You can cat here at night, but a lot of people come for drinks. This is the one place in Campeche that feels touristy—its tables are filled with giant beers that get shared among multiple peoples.
