文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要说明了如何避免网络成瘾,给出了几种限制互联网使用的策略。

1 . How to Avoid Internet Addiction

Internet addiction is a common problem that can be just as damaging as any other form of addiction. Maybe you are concerned that you are too dependent on the Internet and feel very upset.     1

Reach out to friends and family to build more in-person connections If you desire social interaction, call up a friend and make plans to do something fun.     2     If you don’t have friends or family who you can turn to, look into a special interest group you can join. Attend in-person meetings to connect with other people who share your interests and make new friends.

3    . Exercising, reading a book, writing, studying and doing crossword puzzles are all better alternatives to mindlessly surfing the Internet. If you want to cut back on how often you are using the fnernet but aren’t sure what to do with the extra time, identify a few activities that you enjoy and pick one to do instead when you’re feeling the urge to go online.

Use relaxation techniques to reduce stress and anxiety. Yoga, meditation, muscle relaxation, and deep breathing are all great ways to relax when you’re feeling stressed.     4     Instead, try going out for a walk in nature or engaging in a favorite hobby.

Watch for signs of Internet addiction and seek help if you notice them. If you are concerned about becoming addicted to the Internet, staying aware of the signs of Internet addiction may help you know when to seek help. Be on the lookout for any signs that you may have become addicted.     5     If this strategy to overcome Internet addiction doesn’t work for you, talk with your doctor for help.

A.Act right away to limit your Internet usage.
B.Replace Internet use with a-healthy activity.
C.Arrange a family dinner or a game night also helps.
D.Employ your extra time to do something worthwhile.
E.Following are several strategies to limit your Internet usage.
F.You are likely to think that the Internet addiction will ruin your life.
G.You should not reach for your smart phone or laptop when you are feeling pressured.

2 . What do you say when your boss propose a programme you think is impractical? How do you decide whether it’s worth speaking up? And if you do, what exactly should you say?     1

Decide whether to wait. Consider whether it’s best to wait before expressing your opinion. Maybe you haven’t fully thought through the problem yet. Maybe you want to know what other people think.     2     They can offer information to your thinking, which would help you have a better understanding of the whole issue.

Find common ground. Before you share your thoughts, understand the goals of your boss.     3     It may be the reputation of the team. It may be to get a project done on time. You’re more likely to be heard if you have a shared goal with your boss.

Stay calm. You might feel your heart racing or your face turning red. When you seem anxious, it weakens the message you’re conveying.     4     Thus your boss will have to choose which signals to read. Do whatever you can to remain calm.

5     Emphasize that you’re only offering your opinion, not absolute truth. It may be a well-researched opinion, but it’s still an opinion. Instead of saying: “If we set an end-of -quarter deadline, we will never make it,” say, “This is just my opinion, but I don’t see how we will make that deadline.” Tell your boss that this is your point of view, and be open to other views.

A.Stay humble.
B.Consider the risks.
C.Ask permission to disagree.
D.You may even send a mixed message.
E.Seeking opinions from others is helpful.
F.Think about what your boss cares about.
G.Here are tips on how to show your disagreement.

3 . Art Appreciation

Art appreciation is an often overlooked skill. It’s more than simply looking at a piece of art and judging it based on what we see. It requires us to look deeper, beyond the surface into the artist’s intention.     1     The following tips would help you achieve it.

The first step is to prepare yourself mentally. Before you begin viewing any artwork, take moments to clear your mind of what a piece you think should look like.     2     That’s because an artist can present a unique visual experience by combining line, shape, form, color and space creatively.

Besides, examine the artwork closely. Take note of its elements mentioned above. Consider how these elements work together to convey meaning or emotion in the piece. Notice how the work makes you feel.     3     What can I see? What is the artwork saying? What feelings does it arouse in me?

4     Information about the artist and when the artwork was created can help you uncover the deeper symbolism present in the work that may not be immediately evident. Art is often used as a tool for social change. To appreciate art, it’s important to understand the context where it was created. The context behind a piece can be found through research and analysis.

Last but not least, sharing opinions on art also helps. Try discussing your thoughts on artwork with friends or family who may have different opinions. Taking the diverse understanding into consideration, you can approach viewing art work from different viewpoints. As a result, you can gain a new appreciation every time you look at it.     5

A.Relevant research counts as well.
B.Engage all your senses and ask yourself questions.
C.The process can bring you a fun and educational trip.
D.Leave your feelings aside and check out the questions.
E.To sum up, communication can also do good to your art appreciation.
F.With the previous ideas, you can get well prepared for the appreciation.
G.This will help you open up to different perspectives when exploring the work.

4 . When my school offered the opportunity to take part in a School Challenge, I didn’t hesitate to sign up for the initial meeting.     1     We decided to plan a three-week adventure in Romania.

Of course, it was not a case of simply signing up and paying the money.     2     We arranged a variety of events for the purpose. We had decided to go to a remote rural village and to work with a team of local people to improve the school buildings.

We had been warned that our trip would not be a holiday and that things would not always go to plan. We certainly experienced the difficulties during the trip.     3     This meant that they were too weak to continue walking and we were not able to travel as far as we had intended. In fact, one of the team quit the journey.

4     I never got tired of watching the sun rise every morning over the pine forests. Feeding the bears in the sanctuary was also incredible. I would never have imagined that these powerful creatures could be so gentle and calm. My best memory, though, was working on the school building project. I will never forget the hospitality and kindness of the villagers. They cooked us amazing meals and did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and welcome.

My School Challenge trip influenced my life in so many ways. It gave me a taste for independence and adventure, and certainly made me want to travel more.     5     Not having television, internet and hot running water for three weeks was certainly a challenge, but in many ways enjoyed living a simpler life for a short time.

A.This had to be raised by us to fund the trip.
B.Despite the obstacles, it was a truly amazing trip.
C.Above all though, it has made me realise how easy my life is.
D.It was much more challenging than I thought it would be at times.

F.However, we wouldn’t be spending any time there until the end of the trip.
G.For example, a few people became ill because we were so high up in the mountains.

7 . Artificial Intelligence (AI) geolocation (互联网定位技术) solutions are changing the way researchers track and monitor wildlife, enabling more powerful conservation efforts. These systems use advanced sensors, satellite imagery, and machine learning algorithms (算法) to gather real-time data on animal movements, habitat preferences, and migration patterns.     1

Traditional tracking methods often rely on non-automatic tracking or inconvenient necklace-like systems, which may cause stress and discomfort to the animals.     2     The devices can work as tags and the camera traps can be set up remotely, which decreases human impact on wildlife.

In addition, AI-powered devices collect and analyze data precisely. Through their assistance, scientists can gain insights into habitat choices and evaluate the effect of global warming on wild animal locations.     3     For example, by analyzing the collected data, conservationists can promote targeted habitat restoration efforts according to the patterns and connections they discovered with the help of AI geolocation devices.

4     By monitoring animals’ behavioral changes in real-time, researchers can quickly detect signs of environmental issues. Sudden changes in an animal’s movements could indicate threats or problems. Researchers can then respond immediately, potentially saving the animal’s life.

Sharing geolocation data through online platforms can also help raise awareness about protecting endangered species.     5     This help them feel more connected to the issues wildlife face in habitats. The bond promotes a sense of responsibility among individuals and encourages them to contribute to wildlife conservation efforts through various means, such as donations, volunteer work, and so on.

A.This knowledge enables them to make accurate and efficient decisions.
B.However, AI tracking does not require disturbing contact with the animals.
C.AI monitoring needs fewer battery replacements than the traditional methods.

8 . Picky eater? Tips to get them eating out of your hands

There’s nothing more disappointing than putting time and thought into a delicious dinner for your family, then having a certain picky eater turn their nose up at it and refuse to eat it. We’ve all been there. But what is the solution? Here comes good advice.    1

Try something new.

2     For example, if spaghetti is a favourite, try making a simple switch from beef mince (肉末) to pork mince to introduce new flavors carefully.

Prepare easy meals.

Take the pressure off mid-week meals by planning and preparing meals ahead of time or using your slow cooker.    3    . Simply pop a boneless pork shoulder in your slow cooker in the morning with some spices and you’ll have a mouth-watering recipe base that can be transformed into a range of delicious dishes.

    4

Making your children take part in prepping, cooking and even serving dinner is a great way to get them excited about trying new foods. Make Tuesday taco (墨西哥卷) night a tradition and let the kids prepare the ingredients, set the table, and build their own tacos.

Keep it simple.

Most kids prefer plain and simple dishes, so don’t overdo it on spices, exotic ingredients or unfamiliar textures.     5     A subtle twist on classic dish, like substituting beef mince for pulled pork when making shepherd’s pies is an easy way to add variety to your mid-week meals.

By carrying out these strategies, families can create a more enjoyable dinner experience and encourage picky eaters to be more open to trying new foods.

A.Get the kids involved.
B.Ask the kids to have meals together.
C.Pulled pork is an easy and multipurpose dinner.
D.Attempt to make small changes to familiar dishes.
E.Prepare useful ingredients to encourage picky eaters.
F.That’s not to say these simple dishes can’t be full of flavour!
G.We share some tips and recipes to satisfy the pickiest eaters.

2     Back on a freezing winter’s day in 1902, Mary Anderson was traveling by tram through New York City. Snow was falling, forcing the driver to stop repeatedly and get out to clear it. Each time the door opened, Mary suffered a gust of wind. She had a sudden good idea: why not make some kind of a rubber blade (刮片) that could be operated from inside the vehicle?     3

What’s more, the dishwasher dates back even earlier to the 19th century and to the dinner parties held by a lady called Josephine Cochrane. As a frequent hostess, she wanted a machine that could wash dishes faster than humans.     4     And finally, she developed what was to become the first commercially successful dishwasher. Interestingly, innovation was in her blood: her grandfather had invented the steamboat.

10 . I’d entered into another one of those busy periods in life that we all have from time to time. It is those times when in addition to the usual hustle and bustle of life a dozen other things suddenly show up that need to be done right away as well.     1

After grabbing what I needed I walked through the corridor containing mostly little things.    2     As I walked by, one of them jumped out and caught my attention.

It was a little saying on a cheap wood square no bigger than my hand with a string attached to hang it on the wall. In cursive writing along the top it said: “SLOW DOWN &” while below it in big block letters were the words: “ENJOY TODAY”.

I just stood there and read this message over and over. As I did, I felt a calm settling over my soul.    3     And for the first time I had allowed peace and love to flow into me again.

4     Then I brought it home with me and hung it on the wall in my bathroom. So every time I made one of my many trips there I could see those words again and follow the wonderful advice.

In this crazy life, we all need to remember to “SLOW DOWN & ENJOY TODAY.”    5     Instead, life puts us here to love, to find joy and to share that joy with the world.

A.Finally I decided to pay the dollar it cost.
B.What’s more, we need to remember to love.
C.It was as if my stressing and worrying had melted away.
D.However, there was another thing that captured my heart.
E.There were printed paintings, photo frames and inspirational sayings.
F.Life doesn’t put us here to rush about doing a million needless things.
G.This long-to-do list was running through my mind while I was at a local store.
