1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Josie and I wanted a dog more than anything else. Whenever we had time, we’d sit together and talk about dogs. “You’re so silly, Jake,” Josie would say. “Bulldogs (斗牛犬) are scary.” “Hah. Golden retrievers (金毛猎犬) are scary,” I’d say. We had this ongoing argument about what our ideal dog would be. But it made no difference—any dog would do, as long as it had a tail to wag and a friendly face.

One summer night, as we sat together beside the window, Josie saw something. “What’s that?” she said, pointing to a dark shadow on our driveway. The moon was up and everything looked either black or milky. At first all I saw was darkness. Then the shadow moved and I heard the sound of metal. Then the shadow flowed out onto the silvery driveway. With a little fright, we found ourselves stepping down to the front door. There in our yard stood a dog—a big, black dog with long, shaggy (蓬松的) hair.

Josie made a little kissing noise and held out her hand. “Here, boy!” I said. And the dog came to us slowly, taking a few steps forward, and then a step back, not sure whether to trust us. When close enough, it had a doggy smell that always made me think of dirt and grass and piles of leaves. “Don’t say ‘Here, boy’,” said Josie. “She’s a female.” Pulling back and looking, I said, “I wonder what her name is.” I felt for her collar while she sat patiently. I found no tags, but just a chain with a small old bell on it.

“I bet she’s hungry,” said Josie. “I can feel her ribs.” I ran my hand through her fur. The dog was so skinny that you could feel every bone, and her coat was twisted and full of dirt. If she belonged to someone, they weren’t taking good care of her.

Honesty and integrity are Mandy’s habits, and she always follows the Golden Rule: “Do not do to others what you don’t want others to do to you.” But when she recalled her past conduct, her face burned with shame. When many selfish and unfriendly small things came back to her memory, a shy expression appeared on her face. She resolved to follow the Golden Rule.

On a Saturday evening, when Mandy went to Mr. Moore’s inn as usual to collect the money for her mother’s laundry for him, totaling one hundred pounds, she found that Mr. Moore was obviously very angry with some horse dealers who he had been bargaining with. He held an open money bag in his hand, filled with notes, and hardly noticed Mandy’s request for the money. He yelled at her because she disturbed him while he was busy. He casually handed some money to Mandy.

Mandy was glad to get rid of the chaos and quickly went out. She stopped and safely put the money in her wallet, only to find that he had given her two hundred pounds instead of one hundred pounds. She looked around. No one approached, and her first feeling was the joy of winning an unexpected award.

“This is all mine,” she said to herself. “I will use it to buy a new coat for my mother. I wonder if I can also buy a pair of shoes for my brother Tom.”

At that moment, she remembered that Mr. Moore must have given it to her by mistake. But the greedy voice whispered, “He gave it to you. How do you know he hasn’t intended to give it as a gift? Keep it! He will never know because he has too many such notes in that big money bag.”

3 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West. We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Upon Paul, my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos.

His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. “The day starts at dawn on my farm,” he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze (吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.

In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. “Don’t be late for supper,” Uncle Paul cried, “and keep to the track (足迹;踪迹) so that you don’t get lost!” “OK!” my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine (松树) trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven (编织的) blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Jenny liked drawing and her parents thought she had a gift for drawing. So her parents were planning to send her to an art school for drawing classes.

One day, when Jenny returned from school, her mother said, “Jenny, do you want to go to an art school, where you can learn to draw in your spare time?” Hearing that, Jenny was very excited and happily agreed since being an artist was always her dream.

The following day, Jenny’s parents took her to the art school which was a thirty-minute bus ride away from their home. They enrolled Jenny in a drawing class in that school. Then, Jenny started taking classes regularly. At first, she showed great interest and listened carefully in class. She practiced hard in order to do better in drawing. However, some weeks later, Jenny got tired of going to the class. It was very hot at that time of the year. She often had to walk in the hot sun to get to the bus stop. What was worse, she found that drawing wasn’t as easy as she had thought. She was told that it’d take many years for her to be a real artist, so she wanted to give up.

One day, when it was time for her to go to the class, she didn’t leave home. Her mother looked at the wall clock and said, “Honey, it’s already three o’clock now. Your class begins in just half an hour. You should hurry.” But Jenny didn’t move. She said, “I' m not going. In fact, I am tired of drawing.” Her mother was very surprised. She asked her why. Jenny told her what she thought. Her mother thought for a while and said, “You can take a break if you really don’t want to go to your drawing class now. Go and pay a visit to your grandma. If you still don’t want to go after you come back from your grandma’s, then I’ll call your teacher and tell her your decision.”

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Ripple, a cat in my family, liked to follow us everywhere they went. Our house was just a mile from my school. So instead of driving every day to my school, we would walk down a wooded path which was almost straight except for one fork (岔路) in the road a little way down the path. At the fork, we would turn left, which would take us the rest of the way to my school. If we turn right, the path would lead us deeper into the forest, far away from the town.

Ripple would follow us down that path every day. On weekdays, my dad and I would get ready for our walk, with Ripple following closely behind. When we got to school, my dad would drop me off inside as Ripple waited patiently at the door. After I was safely inside, my dad and Ripple would then start their journey home.

One day, it was snowing, and more snow was falling at a steady rate. Still, we headed out with Ripple following closely behind. We walked with heads down to avoid the blowing snow, and we barely spoke, as our faces were hidden into our coats. Because of this, when a small sound broke through the snow and the wind, we looked at each other in puzzlement, wondering if the other one had said something. But as we listened more, we found it couldn’ t be heard clearly, but was still there, and it made us both turn around to see what was making that noise in this white land.

Sam was a 16-year-old boy. Neither of his parents had attended university. Their biggest dream was that Sam could become a lawyer. Sam hoped to live up to their expectation. That way, his parents would be very happy. However, he wasn’t sure whether he would also feel happy.

Since he was a child, Sam had been interested in computer programming. He taught himself how to use a computer, and by the age of 12 he had known three different programming languages. He was quite introverted (内向的), so he preferred staying in with his computer, rather than hanging out with friends. He did all of this in his spare time. His parents were fine with this, as long as he continued to focus on his studies.

One day, when Sam read an article online about a young CEO called Thomas O’Connor, everything changed for him. In the article, the CEO said that his company was trying to develop a new way of paying for goods online. However, they were having a problem with the security system. Thomas said if they could solve this problem, they could create the biggest and best online payment system in the world. Sam realized he might know how to solve this problem. Without hesitation, he emailed the CEO, introducing himself and explaining his idea.

Sam forgot all about it, but a month later, the most amazing thing happened. He received an email directly from the CEO. Thomas loved his idea and decided to meet Sam in person. 7 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“Is this allIgot?” asked my daughter, Allison. “I asked for a new cellphone!”

“What kind of birthday is this?” asked my son, Blake.

Blake and Allison are twins. Every year, I gave them birthday presents. But they always felt unhappy about not receiving something on their wish list.

I knew I had somewhat spoiled(宠坏)them, but I had no idea it was this bad . I was in shock. How self-centered and unappreciative could my children be?

I was determined to do something.

I found a family living on a farm that badly needed help. There were four children in the family aged from three to eight. I began to visit them every two months.

Soon, Allison and Blake’s birthday was drawing near. I decided to introduce them to the new friends. One day, I woke the kids early and drove them to the farm.

When we arrived, I told my children to take two bags off the car, of which one was filled with food and the other with many boxes full of presents my children would never be satisfied with.

We were welcomed inside with smiles and appreciation. Obviously, Alison and Blake were shocked by what they saw. I could guess they had never expected people would live such a difficult life.

“Look! Presents for you. ”Allison was trying to make the kids happier.

With their parents’ permission(允许), the kids began to pick the boxes up, shake them, and guess what was inside. They were so excited. Allison and Blake encouraged the kids to open the boxes. They did. And there were shouts of surprise and joy: a model car, chocolate …then laughter. Then grateful hugs(拥抱)and sincere “thank-yous” .

At first Alison and Blake looked confused but soon joined the children. Before long, they were laughing, too, proud that they brought happiness there.

On the way home, Alison and Blake were a little quiet. When it was time to go to bed that day, my kids hugged me and said, “Thank you, Mum. ”

9 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

As the late afternoon sun beat down on his farm last May, Brandon Leseberg finished feeding his cows and decided to call it a day. As they often did, his two sons, Louie, 6, and Everett, 3 followed him. As they headed for the house, the two boys ran ahead of their father who stopped to close the gate. Louie stopped at a water tap (水龙头) above an old well. Unknown to the Lesebergs, the board covering the well had, over time, grown brittle (易碎的). When Louie stepped on it, it caved in.

Brandon had just finished locking the gate when he tuned around and saw only his youngest son. “Where’s Louie?” he shouted. “He fell in the hole!” Everett said. Brandkon, 37, quickly realized what had happened. He ran to the well and heard Louie struggling. Without hesitation, he jumped in.

As he fell some 70 feet down the well Brandon heard Louie screaming. Somehow Brandon managed to grab onto a pipe that ran down the side of the well. He hit the cold water at the bottom of the well. He popped his head out of the water and grabbed Louie, who was panicking and trying to stay afloat (漂浮的) in the water. Brandon raised his son onto his chest as he put his own legs and back against the narrow walls for support. “All right, Dad, you can pull us out now,” Louie said.

If only it were that easy. There was no way he could climb out. The pipe that he’d grabbed during his fall was too slippery (滑的) to be of any use. There was only one way out. Looking up to see Everett looking down at them from the top of the well, Brandon shouted, “Everett, you’re going to have to be a big boy and save us. Run to the road and stand by the mailbox until someone stops. Tell them we need help.”

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

A few years ago, the company I worked for sent my wife and me to live in New York for a year. I’ve always loved running, so I was really happy when I found out I lived next to Central Park. This meant that every morning I could go for a run before I went to work.

Because a lot of people had told me to be careful of robbers in the park, so usually I didn’t take anything with me. How could they rob me if I didn’t have anything? But one morning, my wife gave me a S 10 bill and asked me to buy some bread on the way.

It was a beautiful morning and the park was quiet with very few people walking or jogging (慢跑) around. While I was running through the park, another jogger knocked into me. He apologized and continued running. For a while, I didn’t think too much of it. However, when I noticed the wide path where I was running, I thought was kind of strange. The warning of robbers in the park occurred to me. ”It could have been a robber!” I suddenly became alarmed, so I checked my pocket and found that the money was missing. Without thinking twice, I ran after that jogger. I finally caught up and held him by the arm. I shouted, “Give me the $10 bill! Now!” I am not usually a hot-headed (性急的) person, but I got really angry this time. I couldn’t believe the robbery was actually happening to me. Filled with anger, I shook my fist at him. This seemed to frighten him. He quickly put his hand in his pocket and gave me the money. Then he ran away as fast as he could.

I bought the bread and went home. As soon as I got home, I couldn’t wait to tell my wife my story. “You won’t believe what happened to me,” I started with pride. She immediately stopped me, “I know, you left the money for the bread on the kitchen table.”

注意:
1. 所续写短文的词数应为80左右;
2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
