The sun was just beginning to rise in the east when Daryl climbed up into the driver’s seat of his truck. He was going to make it to Los Angcles before midnight. He started the engine and got onto the highway.

Suddenly, Daryl saw a large lump (块) in the middle of the road. Daryl’s instinct (直觉) had told him to stop. He stepped rapidly on his brakes (刹车).As he got closer, he found that this lump was a person. Daryl got out of his truck and slowly approached. There was no blood and the figure was lying in the middle of the road under a blanket. Now he could see that it was a girl. Her skin was very pale and she looked absolutely worn out.

“Hey,” said Daryl. Then, “Hey!“ more loudly. The girl moved but didn’t open her eyes. Daryl moved her to the side of the road. At least she wouldn’t be run over there. Now she was someone else’s problem. He climbed back in his truck and drove down the road.

Just one glance in the rear-view mirror (后视镜) and Daryl saw the girl still lying there. He knew that he couldn’t leave her like that. He pulled the truck over again and carried her to the truck. The girl briefly opened her eyes.

”What’s your name?“ Daryl asked. The girl looked at him, silent. She closed her eyes again and Daryl climbed into the driver’s scat. He stopped at the next city, an hour later, and went downtown to the police station. A middle-aged policewoman sat behind the main desk.

”I’ve got a missing girl,“ Daryl said, ”In my truck. I don’t know what to do with her.” Officer Rodriguez came with Daryl and helped him bring the girl inside. The girl still wasn’t speaking.

“Well,“ Daryl said, “I need to hit the road. I have a shipment due in Los Angeles tonight. I was behind and my boss wasn’t going to be happy.”

“Wait, sir, you can’t leave,” said Officer Rodriguez, “We need you to give a statement about how you found the girl.”

3 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I will share the kind act that I met with all of you. We had dozens of restaurant options within a short distance, so we often took advantage of this convenience. On one occasion, I ran out to get some food. I saw the clouds in the distance and decided I could make it there and come back in time, but I was wrong. I was about to leave the restaurant when the rain just poured. The street was flooded within minutes.

But I had my little girl and husband waiting for me back at home, and they were hungry, so I knew I had to make a run for it. The owner of the restaurant tried to encourage me to wait inside, but I insisted that I should go. At this point, he grabbed his umbrella and said, "Okay, let's go." Of course I tried to convince him that it wasn't necessary for him to walk me home, but I knew I wouldn't prevent him from doing so. So off we went. We quickly realized that the umbrella wouldn't help much in keeping us dry. He walked me all the way to my apartment building, where he said goodbye and ran back to the restaurant.

Getting around the city when you are six months pregnant(怀孕的)and have a two-year-old kid can be challenging sometimes. One spring, afternoon, I realized I needed something from the store to finish preparing for dinner. The weather seemed a bit questionable but the store was around the corner so I decided to risk it.

4 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I watched two of my dearest friends grow up. I laughed and cried at their silly actions. I taught them that rolling their eyes was rude and shared my love of books with them.

My daughters, Lassie and Karina have become my daughter friends. This new relationship wasn’t planned. It has been blossomed over the years. I think it started during a shopping trip. I edged out of the dressing room uncomfortably at a shirt that should have fit me. Karina shook her head.

Lassie, three years older and more sensitive, said “Mom, it looks like everything else you own. Why not try something different?” Karina put her hands on her hips. “Mom, definitely not. Next.” I stepped back into the dressing room. I heard Lassie whispering something to her sister. I caught the words “Be gentle”. They rejected all of my choices and picked a much more trendy outfit that I was used to wearing. The message was clear. Mom’s taste was boring. Theirs wasn’t.

That was the beginning of the change. From clothes to relationships, the girls aired their opinions, advised me about dating and stepped. All into my business. Our roles had expanded. Friendship means being honest, loving and loyal. My girls had all those characteristics and more.

“Mom,” Lassie stood in my doorway. Arms crossed in front of her. “Tomorrow morning, you are going to be on the eight am bus. You will be in Pittsburgh by 2:30. Karina is packing your bag. No arguments.”

“Honey, what are you talking about?” I put down the book that I’ve been pretending to read. “I told you that I wasn’t going. We cannot afford it. Besides, who’s going to keep an eye on you?” Karina operated with the motto, “make your point and move on.” “Mom, you deserve a break and you’re getting one. Bus tickets are cheap so we bought you one. We asked dad to help. We are grownups even if we still act like kids sometimes. We will be alright by ourselves.”

The Meredith family lived in a small community. As the economy was in decline, some people in the town had lost their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to make ends meet. People were trying to help each other meet the challenges.

Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.

One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy. The little boy — his name was Bernard — had interested her very much.

“I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don't see what he can do.”

After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we could help him to earn money,” said Clara. “His family is suffering so much.”

“So do I,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.”

For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried, “I have a great idea! I have a solution that we can all help accomplish (完成).”

The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure to be a good one. “I tell you what we can do,” said John. “You know that big box of corn Uncle John sent us? Well, we can make popcorn (爆米花), and put it into paper bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.”

It was Mr Morgan’s first day as a teacher. As a young teacher, Mr Morgan was determined to establish himself as strict but fair.

As he launched into the lecture, the classroom door suddenly opened. A boy walked in. “You’re 20 minutes late. Could you introduce yourself?” Mr Morgan said.

“I’m Archie,“ replied the boy with tired eyes. Archie looked very untidy, as though he hadn’t slept well. “I’m sorry. I overslept. I didn’t mean to come in late. I was just tired.”

As Mr Morgan saw Archie’s notebook, his expression grew uneasy.“You didn’t do your homework.” He scolded (责骂) the boy in front of the whole class. “This is unacceptable. I want to meet your parents tomorrow.”

But Archie never showed up in class the following day and Mr Morgan started to worry. As he prepared to leave after class, he noticed an older woman waiting outside the classroom.

“I’m Archie’s grandmother,” the woman told Mr Morgan. “My grandson was a little sick, so I told him not to go to school...Archie told me you wanted to meet his parents. I’m worried about his recent behavior in class. ”She explained Archie’s father was killed in a motorcycle crash some years ago. His mother has been dealing with some issues since then.

That same evening, Mr Morgan drove to Archie’s address. “I was just passing by and thought I’d meet Archie. Can I see him?” Archie’s grandmother stammered(结结巴巴地说),“Archie has gone to get medicine. Besides, I should start cleaning, so if you don’t mind...”Mr Morgan understood talking to the grandmother would be useless, so he left the house. As he headed back, he ran into Archie. The boy was dirty and exhausted. Archie looked up at Mr Morgan, his eyes wide with fear and embarrassment. “Mr Morgan,... please don’t come here again..I’m tired, and I have to wash up.”

Tears began to well up in my eyes as my university lecturer, Dr Mike Bossley, showed our class images of dolphins that had been kept at theme parks.

One photo of an adult dolphin in a tiny pool hardly wider than the length of its body swimming alone had us all crying.

Mike explained how he had been studying the behavior of dolphins at Adelaide’s Port River for years.

I hadn’t expected to be so drawn to dolphins, the subject of many of Mike’s lectures, but he was right when he told us: “Humans could learn a thing or two from dolphins.“

I had a not-so-happy childhood. I hoped that university would be the start of a new life for me, and one day, I approached Mike to ask if he would ever take me out to visit the dolphins. He agreed. Days later we took a dinghy (小艇) out onto the water and were putting along in silence when I saw a dolphin just a few feet away.

Mike stopped the motor.” That’s Jock. He lives in this small part of the river.”

Jock the dolphin circled the boat curiously. He had scars (伤疤) and nets on his body. He was alone and refused to join other dolphins who swam together.I thought he was like me.

For almost three years, I visited Jock as often as I could. He’d dive beside me, allowing me to touch him. One time, he touched my feet.“What’s he doing?” I asked. “He thinks you’re in trouble,” Mike explained. My heart exploded knowing that this creature who could not speak seemed to be showing me he cared. Part of me was sad when Jock eventually swam off with the other dolphins, but I was also proud he’d shown the courage to do so. Leaving him and the river behind, I went on to get a job but was still unhappy.

One day last winter my best friend Bennet and I went to our ski class together with some other friends of ours. While we were skiing, at some point we got totally separated from the group, along with a couple of friends. We were racing down the hill when we saw a forest trail.

I stopped and asked our teacher, “Is it OK if we take this trail?” “Sure,” she replied. “Just meet us at the bottom of the slope (斜坡).”

“OK,” I said. So, Bennet, a couple of our other friends and I started going down the trail. There were quite a few forks (岔口) in the trail. Bennet fell down at one of them. The trail and fork he chose were too thin for anyone to stop and help him, though, So, everyone but me chose to go around him and expected him to catch up. He got up and skied down agạin. Soon he caught up with me.

“Let’s stop here for a while,” I shouted.

“OK,” replied Bennet.

We then both stopped and looked around. To our surprise, we found we were alone there. The others had already skied down a trail and we didn’t know which one they had taken. Since it was snowing, we couldn’t see the tracks, and my phone didn’t have a sign al this high up. I couldn’t send someone an online message, either.

We stayed calm. Finally, after a bit of exploring, we found an exit. But it turned out we were on the wrong side of the mountain. We went down to Golden Nugget, our favorite slope, since it had many ups and downs that allowed us to find a map. Once we found one, I asked Bennet, “Bennet, are you hungry?” He replied, “Ani, we’ve been in freezing snow at the top of the mountain without our teacher for about 15 to 20 minutes, so yes I’m hungry!” Luckily, I had a couple of brownies in my jacket, so we took a snack break.

The moonlight appeared through the cottage window, lighting the room. Oliver was absorbed in his book in his bedroom when he suddenly heard Grandma Agnes’ voice.

“Oliver, dinner’s ready,” she said. “I haven’t finished reading my book!” Oliver replied.

Oliver opened the next page of his book in the light of the candle on his bedside table. He didn’t want to stop reading there. But he closed the book anyway and went downstairs for dinner.

Oliver was a bookworm. He read books whenever he could.

His family was small, and so was the cottage where he lived. Grandma Agnes and his little sister, Eve, made Oliver’s family. His parents passed away.

That night, after everyone finished dinner, Oliver helped Agnes clean the table. Then, he returned to his book and dozed off while reading.

The next day, on the bus, Oliver was reading his book again when he heard a noise and looked up. He saw an old woman who said she had forgotten to take money. However, the driver asked her to get down.

“I have to see my daughter. She’s in the hospital!” the old woman said worriedly.

“I’ll pay her fare, sir!” Oliver said.

Oliver helped the old woman into the seat next to him and paid her fare.

“Thank you very much, child,” she said, “You have a little kid’s sweet voice!”

“I’m a big boy! I’m not a kid!” Oliver said proudly,“ And my name is Oliver. What happened to your daughter?”

“I’m Maranda,” she introduced herself,“ My daughter had an accident yesterday. Thank you for helping me today, Oliver.”

“Not a problem, Maranda,” Oliver said, though it was a problem for him. The money he spent on the old woman was originally saved to buy the next book in the series he was reading. But he couldn’t see Maranda get into trouble. When he told her he loved books and how eager he was to get more books, she listened with the same patience as Agnes.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右。
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I was the fat kid in school. I was also very shy, and sensitive and I had very bad asthma (哮喘) and other health conditions that made me miss more school than I should have. As such, I was somewhat of an outsider, seen as the strange fat kid who got time off school. I wasn’t very popular and often laughed at. Most of the time, I hated school. I felt anxious about it sometimes. I just couldn’t seem to fit in and it always seemed to be an unfriendly environment. But then, thankfully, some things started to change.

I’d just started my General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSEs). These were the serious years in school and there seemed to be a change in the atmosphere. People wanted to work together and were more comfortable being themselves, which was also true for me. I found myself enjoying the subjects of history and science in particular and could even make jokes with classmates. People were making more of an effort to include me. I was making more of an effort too — making sure my health didn’t hold me back and trying not to be shy and engage and laugh things off. Then a big event was coming up: the school talent show.

I wouldn’t have dared to take part in such a public thing before, but a few kids in school were encouraging me to take part. Rey, a kind girl in my science class said, “Hey, why don’t we sing a duet (二重唱) together?”I couldn’t believe I was even thinking about it but I had the perfect song in mind. It was Tom Jones’s hit — Burning Down the House. This fun song was perfect and it would be funny, because House, is my family name. I mentioned it to Rey and she said, “OK, we’re doing it!”

Well, I was in for it now. This would either help my popularity or it would be the most embarrassing experience of my life.

(1)续写词数应为120左右:

Rey and I had practiced a lot and finally, the big day came.
