We both worked so hard that the path was clear soon. See this, our father felt very surprising. He smiled happily at us, telling us that we have done a good job and that he was proud for us. Finally my father gave us some pocket money as a reward for the Spring Festival. Susan and I was happy because we both had got the money through labors.
7 . How to Love Your Parents
Even if you think that your parents are mean-spirited at times , loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part, a source of who you are.
A gentle “good morning” and “I love you” will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. Without your parents, we might still wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world.
Respect them more and cherish these moments. You can use these moments to learn from them when you're off on your own. It's OK to get angry but angry actions don't help you or your parents. Act calmly, cool off, write down your feelings, or talk to a friend.
Obey their requests. It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them. It may seem like you are going through hell when you don't get what you want or you have to clean. However, you had better remember they keep a roof over your head when it's cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes.

8 . Do you need to "edit your friends"? Is your mobile phone directory full of phone numbers of people you don't really want to talk to? Do you go out with people from work or school more often than with your real friends? Do you say yes to invitations because you think you should, not because you want to? If you answered yes to at least two of these questions, then perhaps you need to "edit your friends".
Nowadays people like to spend a lot of time with people at work or classmates at school. The result is that we don't have enough time to see our real, close friends. As our lives get busier, it becomes more important to spend the little free time we have with people we really want to see, people we love and who really love us.
Who are the friends you need to edit? A few years ago I read a book about how to get rid of unnecessary possessions (物品). It said you should ask yourself about each thing you have: Is it useful? Do I really like it? Do I feel better every time I look at it? If the answer is no to any one of those questions, you should throw it away. Maybe we should ask similar questions about our friends.
What kind of friends will you probably need to edit? Sometimes it's an old friend. Somebody who you used to have a lot in common with, but who, when you meet now, you have very little or nothing to say to. Or it might be a new friend who you get on quite well with, but who is taking up too much of your time. Next time one of these people calls you and suggests a meeting, think "Do I really want to see this person?", and if the answer is no, say no, and make an excuse. That way you'll have more time to spend with your real friends.

9 . Stranger Safety Tips for Children
Your feelings tell you that you are safe with some people like your mom or dad, brothers or sisters; your grandparents; teachers at school.
People that you do not know very well can mean danger. You may meet these people anywhere, in the streets, stores, theaters, or on the playgrounds. These people are strangers. Simply, a stranger is someone that you do not know.
Not all strangers are bad, but it is very difficult to tell bad strangers from good strangers. Strangers can come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and ages. Even a teenager could be considered a stranger to you.
If a "stranger" comes towards you, you should:
● Never talk to a stranger.
● Never go near a stranger.
● Never accept gifts or rides from a stranger.
● Never go anywhere with a stranger.
Report strangers to your parents, teachers, bus drivers, or an adult that you know well.
The main rule to remember: "Stay away from strangers".
When you are alone at home, always lock the door. Do not answer the door if someone knocks. Never let strangers into the house. If the telephone rings, answer it. Do not tell anyone that you are alone. You can tell them your parent cannot come to the phone right now. Ask who is calling, and offer to take a message.

10 . We moved to Elmont in 1956. I was 4 years old. Elmont was a wonderful place to grow up. There were lots of kids, great schools and we had a big yard. Having grown up a city kid, my father, Nicholas Denaro, believed that grass was not just to look at, but that children were meant to play on it. We played games and badminton there. A white fence separated our backyard from a small wood. My friends and I jumped the fence and climbed trees.
My father had the most amazing hands. He could fix anything. He gave those amazing hands to his son, my younger brother, Frank, who also became handy around the house. But my father saved his green fingers for me. He grew flowers, tomatoes, strawberries and figs and he shared his love of gardening with me.
Fourteen years ago, I went to a local nursery and purchased a fig tree for Dad for Father’s Day. My mother, Bridget Denaro, called it the best gift I could have given him. He planted it exactly in the middle of the front yard.
He loved that tree and enjoyed delicious figs every year, except just after Sandy hit in 2012. He was so disappointed when cold weather just after the superstorm froze all the remaining figs.
In 2015,my father died of aspirating pneumonia (呼吸性肺炎) at 97. We sold our family home of 61years last year. We left behind Dad's tree, full of figs waiting to ripen. We briefly-considered taking it with us, but decided that his Father's Day fig tree belonged in Elmont. The new owners generously allowed me to take some branches so that I could have a precious reminder of my much-loved father and the Elmont home.
