1 . Tips for Upcoming Senior Two

The upperclassmen often describe Senior Two in No.7 High as a year with “much more homework, more frequent exams and more fierce competitions”.     1

●Manage your time carefully and make the most of it.

Try to study not only hard but efficiently. Make a to-do-list for your time after school. Don’t just spend quite a long time on only one subject, especially a science subject.     2     Remember to take breaks when you feel exhausted.

●Treat competition in class in a right way.

Competition cannot be avoided, but everyone wants to study and live in a friendly environment. Don’t treat your classmates as potential enemies.    3    By helping others solve problems, you inspire others, consolidate your own knowledge and gain lasting friendship.

    4

Don’t let your former rankings limit you. What really matters is how you treat exams and rankings. Forget the class or grade rankings, but compete with yourself. In a while, you will see yourself climbing in scores and rankings.

All in all, the coming new school year is sure to be full of challenges. Too much worry only adds to your difficulties in your development.     5     Wish you the best of luck in the new academic year in No.7 High!

A.Treat yourself as the rival.
B.Have a right attitude towards your rankings.
C.However, rearrange your time table is of great importance.
D.Instead, divide the hours into small periods for different subjects.
E.So when they turn to you for help, just share your wisdom generously.
F.If you keep my advice in mind, you will achieve a lot and lead a happy life.
G.When you prepare for the upcoming challenges, some advice from me may be helpful.

6 . Some individuals are born with a gift for public speaking.    1    Do you want to be a good public speaker? Here are some principles you must master.

People want to listen to someone who is interesting, relaxed and comfortable. Too often when you stand up to give a speech, you focus on the “public”at the expense of the “speaking. ”       2     Focus on the speaking. Talk directly to your audience, be yourself and make a connection.

Even the most successful public speaker will make mistakes. Yet, the only one who cares about any mistake is the one who is speaking. People’s attention wanders constantly. In fact, most people only absorb about 20 percent of a speaker’s message. So, don’t stop speaking when you make a mistake unless it’s a truly serious one.    3

Your goal is not to be a perfect public speaker.    4    And like everything else in life, that takes practice. Remember, even world champion athletes practice their skills on a consistent basis.

5    It’s rare to hear someone say, “I wish that speaker had spoken longer. “On the other hand, you probably can’t count the times that you’ve thought, “I’m glad that talk is over. It seemed to go on forever! “So surprise your audience. Always make your presentation just a bit shorter than anticipated. It’s better to leave your listeners wishing for more than shifting restlessly in their seats waiting for your speech finally to end.

A.Do the opposite.
B.You want to be an effective public speaker.
C.You don’ t need to apologize for a minor slip.
D.When it comes to public speaking, less is usually more.
E.The objective of most speeches is to benefit the audience
F.Take the fear out of public speaking by focusing on your listeners
G.However, the majority of people are effective speakers because they train to be.

10 . A teacher in the US asked students to finish the sentence: “ I wish my teacher knew...” However, we have recently asked teachers what they wish their students knew.

Jackie Schneider, music teacher, London

I wish my students knew that education is not a competitive sport. No child is a number. Levels tell you more about the school than the child. In the same way, some kids take longer to learn to walk and talk and some take longer to learn literacy and numeracy skills, which does not matter. Every child has the potential to be gifted and talented. I wish they knew that reading could bring them more joy than they could ever imagine and that their singing voice is beautiful.

Avais Qureshi, citizenship teacher, London

I wish they knew that life is about so much more than who approves of you and who doesn’t. A lot of kids are too hung-up on peer groups. I wish they knew that this time doesn’t return: they need to focus on their top tasks and getting the grades they need.

Nandia Helal, Langdon Academy, London

I wish my students knew how hard we work. I have them on my mind for 12-15 hours a day. If I’m out on the weekend, there’s always a sense of guilt----like I should be marking or planning lessons for the upcoming week. I never feel like I’m doing enough for their education.

Geoff Barton, head teacher, King Edward VI School, Bury St Edmunds

I wish my students knew that while school and qualifications matter a lot, they are merely doors into our future: the really important things in our lives, and the people who will mean most to us, all lie ahead. Students should seize every opportunity now, in and beyond the classroom, to develop the skill, qualities and knowledge ready for the adventures that lie ahead.

1. Jackie Schneider thinks that _________.
