High school can be quite the stressful time for any student. There are numerous stresses to deal with and the pressure can be more intense as you enter your senior year.    1    The answer is as follows.

2    Adjust your approach to your specific situation. For instance, if you’re active in your community and your school and have a large family, you may feel depressed by having all these people involved in your life on a daily basis.    3    You just may need a moment to be alone and collect your thoughts before moving on to the challenges that face you.

4    If your stress persists and you can’t figure out a way to handle it, you may want to try speaking to your school counselor (顾问). If you don’t feel comfortable speaking to your counselor, try getting some other types of counseling.

Realize your limits, and plan around them. Don’t take on more than you can handle. If you take on too many things, you will be spread too thin and won’t be able to perform at your best in anything.    5    You will definitely feel more at ease!

A.Seek professional counseling.
B.Why does the stress come into being?
C.Try thinking of alternative ways to deal with stress.
D.When you feel relieved, you can have a happier life.
E.Taking some time out to be alone may be the best way to handle such stress.
F.But how on earth can you reduce some of the stress?
G.Evaluate what tasks and activities are most important and leave others behind.

3 . I travel a lot in my work, and what I dislike about my job is eating alone. It always makes me feel lonely to see others laughing and talking. So, room service for several nights was a better choice for me.

After having room service three nights at a hotel in Houston, however, I needed to get out of my room. Although the restaurant opened at 6:30, I arrived at 6:25. The waiter at the front desk made a comment(评论) about my “being there really early”. I explained my dislike of eating alone in restaurants. He then seated me at a lovely table and asked me whether I would mind if he sat down with me for a while.

I was glad! He sat and talked with me about his career goals and the difficulty of being at work on nights, weekends and holidays. He said he hadn’t enough time to be with his family. After 15 minutes, he saw some customers at the front desk and excused himself. I noticed that before he went to the front desk, he stopped in the kitchen for a moment.

Then another waiter came out of the kitchen and had a wonderful chat with me. Before I left that night, some other waiters, even the cook, had come out of the kitchen and sat with me!

4 . Most Chinese people these days know what it is like to have an “English teacher”, since almost all pupils study English from their third year. Usually that first English teacher will be a young and lovely lady in primary school. But my first English teacher is no other than my father. Looking back, I can see that, when I was only a little girl, he created an English environment by providing me with flashcards, fun English- language toys and even dolls which can sing English songs! My interest in English had certainly been awakened (唤起) when I began to learn English at school. Just imagine, he went a step further and asked me to learn New Concept English by myself! At first, I read stories with tears and I actually hated them because they were too difficult for me. In the end, I came to love the funny stories and, to be honest, my father was always there with a helping hand. I am sure that my English would never have got so far without his support. 8 . It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone.
The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries(食品杂货), saving us from having to walk along long distances from where we live.
I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity(人性) as a whole. And it has influenced us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.
1. Why was the bike so important to the couple?
A.They used it for work and daily life.
B.It was their only possession(财产).
C.It was a nice Kona 18 speed.
D.The man‘s job was bike racing.
2. We can infer from the passage that __________.
A.the couple worked 60 hours a week
B.people were busy before Christmas
C.the stranger brought over the bike
D.life was hard for the young family
3. How did people get to know the couple’s problem?
A.From a stranger.
B.From a newspaper.
C.From TV news
D.From radio broadcasts.
4. What do the couple learn from their experience?
A.Strangers are usually of little help.
B.One should take care of their bike.
C.News reports make people famous.
D.An act of kindness can mean a lot.
5. From this story, we can see humanity is __________.
A.selfish
B.commercial
C.kind
D.cold-hearted

9 . The other day I heard a few local musicians talking: "I hate all the pianos in this town and I hate that rubbish they play on the radio. They cannot even understand rhythm (韵律).""Nobody wants to pay musicians anything. I’m sick of all the people who want you to play without paying you."...
One younger musician said, "There are a couple of clubs who want me to play for a few nights a month, and I’m trying to find other places to play. I’m also planning to join in several summer festivals this year."
I really liked what the younger musician said so I made friends with him. Attitudes are important. Whether they’re positive or negative (消极的), they’re all rubbing off on you. If you’re around people who are always complaining or blaming (责备) others, it is possible that you will start doing the same as well. If you spend lots of time with people who don’t support your dreams, it is time to take a look at the people you call "friends".
There is an easy exercise you can try. Make a list of the people who you often stay with, and simply stop spending time with the negative people on your list. Set a new standard for yourself and don’t become friends with people who fall below that standard. The choice is always yours to make. Of course, this exercise is entirely different from making friends only for the good of oneself. We really should try to help and spend time with those who are working towards a goal or dream.
1. The musicians’ conversation at the beginning is to show that ______.
A.musicians’ living conditions are not good
B.people in that town have poor taste in music
C.different people have different attitudes
D.young people are more likely to succeed
2. The underlined part "they’re rubbing off on you" in Paragraph 3 means ______.
A.they’ll push you ahead
B.they’ll have an influence on you
C.they’ll keep you from moving on
D.they’ll help you realize your dreams
3. Why did the author want to make friends with the younger musician?
A.He is more active than the others.
B.He can earn more than the others.
C.He has more things to do than the others.
D.His attitude is more positive than the others.
4. By doing the exercise mentioned in Paragraph 4, you can ______.
A.make the right kind of friends
B.improve your ability to make friends
C.develop a better relationship with your friends
D.make some new friends with the same interests as you
5. We can get the following information from the passage EXCEPT ______.
A.the younger musician is a positive person and would be a good friend
B.one will start complaining if one spends too much time with negative people
C.the exercise can help you keep close to really helpful friends
D.one should avoid making friends with people who have lots of difficulties
