1 . Family time is one of the most important times in a children's life. My family and I spend a lot of time together, including having dinner together every night.     1     Even when my father is away on business, my mother, my sister and I talk and have fun together. As a teenager, spending time with my parents is not the most fun thing I do but I feel it is necessary. I learn from them every time we talk, whether it is about my dad's job or my mother's day.

2     Data show that only 50% of families sit down for dinner together every night. That's a shame because researchers claim that kids who have these regular family dinners tend to have a sense of belonging and safety.       3     And they are also more likely to have better grades and a larger vocabulary.

There have been many recent studies showing kids are "wilder" than they used to be.     4    I think less attention from parents might be one of them. If parents spend more time with their children, they will keep their kids away from television, video games and "wild" ideas.

I have noticed in old TV shows and my parents' stories that not long ago sitting at the family dinner table was not a choice, but a must.     5    It is probably because parents and children are under more pressure from work and study. Although we all lead busy lives and are always running around trying to finish homework or play sports, we should all spend 20 minutes each day to eat dinner together.

A.Nowadays, it seems harder for people to find time to be together.
B.I did a little research on the "family table" idea.
C.Children just watch TV and play computer games.
D.There are certainly many reasons for this.
E.We don't watch television. Instead we sit down at the table to eat and discuss our days.
F.What's more, they learn better behaviours during the time with their parents.
G.It is important for parents to teach children how to behave.

2 . Technology has changed almost everything. With the Internet and mobile phones, everyone is now connected. Mobile phones are no longer just a luxury (奢侈品). They have played an important part in people's lives. And today, there is a very long-standing debate about the use of mobile phones in the classroom.

First of all, mobile phones can keep students connected. With mobile phones, parents might be less worried since they can easily check on their children, and students can easily call their parents. Secondly, they encourage shared learning. Students can share notes and reminders faster and easier with mobile phones. Moreover, mobile phones can be used as memory support. Students can record their lessons by taking pictures and / or videos for future use. With smart phones, learning can also be more fun. Additionally, students can use their phones for taking down notes and creating reminders. Last but not least, smart phones are an excellent source of information. Students can search for information on the Internet, or use the dictionary and translation tools on their phones.

However, allowing students to use their mobile phones in the classroom has some big disadvantages. For example, students' attention can easily be drawn away when their phones ring, and the learning process comes to a complete stop when students start to send and read messages or make and receive calls. Moreover, with the appearance of smart phones, it is now easy for students to play on the Internet or shop online. Smart phones can also be used for cheating (作弊). Text messaging is the new note passing. Students can exchange test answers through text messages without the teacher knowing. Finally, mobile phones can cause health problems. Playing with phones for long periods of time can harm students' eyesight, and the radiation (辐射) emitted from mobile phones may be bad for students' health.

1. What is the function of the first paragraph?
A.To give the point of view of the author.
B.To introduce the major topic of the passage.
C.To illustrate an idea with examples.
D.To create a special atmosphere for readers.
2. According to the second paragraph, what can students do with smart phones?
A.They can post their notes on the Internet.
B.They can share their homework with each other.
C.They can take pictures of themselves and post them online.
D.They can look up new words.
3. Which is NOT a disadvantage of using mobile phones mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A.Phone calls can draw students' attentions away from study.
B.Students can play or shop online during class.
C.Mobile phones can damage relationships between students and teachers.
D.Students can cheat on exams.
4. What is the main focus of the passage?
A.The debate on the use of mobile phones in peoples' lives.
B.Things that students can do with their mobile phones.
C.Advantages and disadvantages of using mobile phones in the classroom.
D.Whether or not students should be allowed to answer phone calls in class.

3 . Chinese students always complain that they’re under great pressure and don’t get enough sleep. But they may be surprised to learn that they’re much luckier than their peers in South Korea and Japan, according to a recently published report, conducted by Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences on the physical and mental health of senior high school students in the three Asian countries.

According to the study among nearly 6,000 high school students in the three countries, Chinese students are the tallest but poorest in physical fitness. Chinese students are on average 168.17cm, compared with 167.61cm for South Korean students and 164.70cm for Japanese students. The report said that over half of students in South Korea had tried to lose weight in the past year, while in China the figure was only 22 percent. In measures of self-worth, such as “I think I am valuable” and “I think I am successful”, “I can complete many things”, “I won’t give up to failure,” Chinese students showed greater self-confidence than students in Japan and South Korea.

4 . The headmaster of a primary school showed on television to support her idea that parents should “dress appropriately in daywear” when they drop off and pick up their kids from school.

Kate Chisholm, head teacher at Skerne Park Academy in Darlington, the U.K., sent a letter home asking parents to set a better example for their children.

“I have noticed there has been an increasing tendency for parents to drop off and pick up their kids from school while still wearing their pajamas (睡衣),” Chisholm wrote. “Could I please ask that when you are sending your children, you take the time to dress appropriately in daywear that is suitable for the weather conditions?”

Kate Chisholm wants parents at her school to dress nicer. She appeared on British television station ITV to further explain her decision, saying she had started noticing the pajama trend had been picked up by “30 or 40” parents at school.

Despite her determination to make school a nicer place to be, Chisholm admits that she can't demand that parents dress up-such as Karen Routh, 49, who wore pajamas to drop off her 8-year-old daughter Holly, because she was running late and didn't feel well.

“I imagine there might be some people who keep up wearing pajamas for the next six months to prove a point,” Chisholm said. “I can't force people to get dressed but I will keep sending letters home in the hope that they decide to put on a pair of jeans.”

7 . Nowadays, kuakuaqun or praise groups have become more and more popular on the Internet, Their aim is to comfort young people. These groups provide words of support for those who are unhappy.

Spending just a little money, you can enter such a group. Share your problems or success, and you will receive positive messages soon. These messages, mostly from strangers, will help you feel better. A leader of one of the groups talks about his first purpose, “I want to help people learn to praise others and accept others, praise.”

I like the idea of kuakuaqun. However, I think getting praise from strangers online isn’t very useful in the long run. This is especially true when you are paying for the praise. These people don’t know you, so the praise may not be earnest. Real and meaningful praise comes from the people you know.

With this in mind, we should try to praise our   friends and family members   when they need some encouragement. Simply saying to a classmate, ‘I like you’, can lift his or her confidence. Being kind to others is easy. And it adds the necessary sweetness to make everyone’s life better.

1. Words of support of kuakuaqun are mainly from _________.
A.StudentsB.StrangersC.RelativesD.classmates
2. In kuakuaqun you can learn __________.
A.to fight with othersB.to make friends with others
C.to draw some picturesD.to praise others and accept others’ praise
3. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “earnest”?
A.勇敢的.B.大量的.C.真诚的.D.虚拟的.

8 . 阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式。

Have you ever asked yourself why children go to school? You will    1    (probable)say that they go to learn languages, history, science and some other knowledge. That is quite true, but why do they learn these things?

We send our children to school to prepare them    2    the future when they grow up and have to work for    3    (they) . Nearly everything they study at school has some practical use in their life. But is that    4    only reason why they go to school?

There is more in education    5    just learning facts. We go to school to learn how to learn, so that when we have left school we can continue to learn. A man    6    really knows how to learn will always be successful, because when he has to do something new, he will not only be able to do it well himself, he will also be able    7    (teach) others how to do it in the best way. One    8    (educate)person, on the other hand, is either unable to do something new, or just    9    (do) it badly. The purpose of schools is not to teach languages, history, science, etc, but to teach pupils the way    10    (learn).

9 . Too much screen time for kids can lead to poor health the American Heart Association (AHA) says. A scientific statement published by the AHA in the medical journal Circulation said screen time from smartphones, tablet computers and other devices can lead kids to a sedentary(惯于久坐不动的) lifestyle ,increasing the possibility that they grow up as overweight or obese(肥胖的).

The AHA is the latest organization urging parents to limit how much time their kids spend in front of screens. It recommends children get one to two hours of screen time each day. Although television viewing among children and teens has dropped, the use of smartphones and tablet computers has surged.

“Although the mechanisms(机制) linking screen time to obesity are not entirely clear, there are real concerns that screens influence eating behaviors, mainly because children don’t notice when they are full when eating in front of a screen,” said Tracie Barnett, a researcher at the INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier Research Centre,in a statement.

Barnett, one of the authors of the statement, also urges parents to keep screens out of kids’bedrooms, raising the fear that too much screen time can affect sleep.

Many studies have warned about the potential (潜在的) negative effects of too much screen time. Last year, a study from researchers at San Diego State University(SDSU) found nearly half of teens who spent five or more hours in front of screens every day experienced long periods of hopelessness or sadness.

Apple, who makes the iOS mobile platform, plans to introduce new tools to devices to help users cut back on screen time. As for iOS 12,iPhones will include a screen time feature where users can control and review how they spend time on their mobile devices. Another company that makes the Android platform will introduce “digital well-being” tools such as screen time limits and a “wind down” option to encourage users to put down their phones before bed.

1. Which can replace the underlined word “surged” in paragraph 2?
A.Increased suddenly.B.Decreased slowly.
C.Stayed the same.D.Lost the balance.
2. How do screens influence children’s eating behavior?
A.By changing the time they eat.B.By changing their taste for food.
C.By influencing how fast they eat.D.By influencing their feeling of fullness.
3. What effect did too much screen time have in SDSU’s study?
A.It affected children’s sleep.B.It led to children’s obesity.
C.It resulted in diet problems.D.It negatively influenced moods.
4. What will Apple do to deal with the screen time problem?
A.Reduce its products’ battery life.
B.Provide a screen time feature.
C.Introduce “digital well-being” tools.
D.Add a “wind down” option to its products.
