John went shopping in a store, and he forgot to bring a bag. So he buys a shopping bag. After arriving home, it occurred him that he could make a bag by using his old trousers. Several hours late, he made himself a very nice bag. His mother was amazing at what he had done. Avoiding spending money unnecessarily is a way of saving. And making a good use of things is an approach to protect the environment. What's more, it is helpful for you to improve the ability to make thing by hand. It not only brings us pleasure but reduce waste around us.
2 . When I was nine years old,I loved to go fishing with my dad. But the only thing that wasn’t very fun about it was that he could catch many fish while I couldn’t catch anything. I usually got pretty upset and kept asking him why. He always answered, “Son, if you want to catch a fish, you have to think like a fish.” I remember being even more upset then because “I’m not a fish!” I didn’t know how to think like a fish. Besides, I reasoned, how could what I think influence what a fish does?
As I got a little older, I began to understand what my dad really meant. So, I read some books on fish. And I even joined the local fishing club and started attending the monthly meetings. I learned that a fish is a cold-blooded animal and therefore is very sensitive to water temperature. That is why fish prefer shallow water to deep water because the former is warmer. Besides, water is usually warmer in direct sunlight than in the shade. Yet, fish don’t have any eyelids(眼睑) and the sun hurts their eyes...The more I understood fish, the more I became effective at finding and catching them.
When I grew up and entered the business world, I remember hearing my first boss say, “We all need to think like salespeople.” But it didn’t completely make sense. My dad never once said, “If you want to catch a fish you need to think like a fisherman.” What he said was, “You need to think like a fish.” Years later, with great efforts to promote long-term services to people much older and richer than me, I gradually learned what we all need is to think more like customers. It is not an easy job. I will show you how in the following chapters.

On the cold morning, my brother suddenly became unconscious. He then rushed to hospital and it turned out that she had a severe brain disease. When he finally came back home, we did that most families would do. We tried to help him as many as we could. One afternoon, he was at home alone for a few hours. When we returned, all the furnitures in his bedroom had been rearranged. My mom asks in surprise, “Who did that?” My brother replied delighted, “Me.” At that moment, we were all greatly amazed at that he had recovered a lot and had the strength to moving things.
I knew the fearful day would come sooner or later. However, it came too fast. I was waiting in the dental clinic, nervous about what was to come.
Seeing my nervousness, my parents told me to sit up, and to take deep breaths to keep calm, which worked. However, the peace was short-lived. Almost immediately, my name was called, signaling my turn had come. I pretended to be deaf but my mother gestured at me to stand up. I forced myself to step forward and tripped over a toy left lying around by some kid. My clumsiness (笨拙) got me the attention of everyone in the room.
I had refused my parents’ offer to accompany me. I meant to show them that I was brave enough to face the difficulty on my own. Thankfully, I forgot my anxiety as I looked around the dentist’s room. Tools of different sizes were arranged neatly in a tray (托盘) on the tiny table which was connected to a chair with buttons and a light hanging right over it. I didn’t look at my dentist in the eye as I took my place on the chair nervously. I almost jumped out of the seat when all of a sudden the chair moved and I was lying down facing the bright yellow light.
The dentist spoke in a relaxing voice behind her mask. Everything was going smoothly and I was quite proud of myself. Then something went wrong. I was picking up the cup of water placed next to the chair for patients to rinse (冲洗) their mouths when I caught sight of the dental drill. Panic related to a bad childhood experience involving the drill kicked into me, and I spat out the rinsing water, right into the surprised dentist’s face.

When I was eight, my father bought me the new bike for my birthday. My brother offered to teach me how to ride. At first, they rode and let me watching. Then he explained me the skills of controlling the bike. Still puzzling, I got on the bike, but it doesn’t move as expected. I lost my balance and fall off the bike. At once I burst into tear because I saw blood on the ground. While I stood up, my left leg hurt bad. Later, I learned to ride a bike. But this experience told me that though some lessons were painful to learn them, yet we could benefit a lot.

I would like to share to you the story about my grandma.
In my teenage years, what impresses me most was the way she said goodbye to me every time I packed different bag and got ready to return to the city after spending a summer at home."Working hard, and don't miss home," she told me at the front door, trying hardly to hold back her own tears.Weak and lonely, my grandma stood against the door, which nearly made me to cry. Then, he walked back into the house hurriedly before I even got into my dad's car. All of sudden, a feeling of guilt struck me. I longed to hug her and say something, and at that moment I was surprising to find myself helplessly silent.
However, there is no possibility that I can hug her now.
10 . “You brought home such a big dog on Christmas Eve? She’s not coming into my house.“ I said as they came. But my husband was happy to have the dog. From what he described, she had been neglected and tied to a tree. Her owners had to get rid of her because they were moving, so my husband brought her along.
I’m not against animals, but my work in emergency medicine let me see plenty of “the dog never bit anyone before” cases that I didn’t want repeated with my two-year-old. My husband adapted an area in the barn for her. He fed her in the morning before work and took her out in the evening. She was well-behaved. Still, I wasn’t taking chances with my child.
As the seasons passed, I started to feel bad for Brandy being stuck outside all the time. She seemed kind and gentle. Day after day, I would notice Brandy in her little space, alone, watching the house. The guilt was eating at me.
As my daughter grew a little older, I decided to let Brandy inside. She was a perfect house guest, showed no sign of aggression (进攻) and even became buddies with one of the cats. We made up for lost time with treats and soft beds. Once she moved into our house, she became a member of our family. We took her camping and found her to be great at traveling. She never caused a single moment’s trouble. As she became senior, I found a little dog Shirley through a rescue. We took Brandy to meet her, and Brandy played with the puppy, making it clear that there would be no problems bringing the young one home.
Brandy’s patient, gentle spirit showed me that you can’t judge a book by its cover—or a dog by its reputation. By opening my mind, I learned the truth about her. I’m so thankful for Brandy and the way she touched our lives, and the lessons she taught me.
