I went shopping with my mother who wanted to buy for me a pair of shoe. After three hours of look and trying, we felt tiring. So we decided to find coffee shop and take a break. While waiting for the coffee, I notice a homeless man outside. I remembered a coin I found in the changing room and planned to give it to the man. But the man refused to taking it. Finally, I secret put the coin in one of his bags and left. My mother praised me later. I thought that I just did what my grandmother often told me: pass your kind on to someone else, no matter what small it is.

One morning, a father drove his two sons to school. On the way, the boys sat on the back seat, continually argue with each other about something. Finally, it became so heated that all boys grew annoyed. Quite disappointing, the father tried to calm them while driving. But it was uselessly. Soon, boys angrily kicked each other, making the father fail to focus on driving. He then turned back to stop from his sons. Just then, the car lost control but almost hit one of the vehicle coming in another direction. Since that day, the boys had never fought in the car, fearing affecting his father’s driving.
The sun was burning hot on July 26th. To seek shelter from the heat, two policemen went into a grocery store to treat themselves to a cold drink. As soon as they stepped into the store, the guard in the store walked towards them. The guard told them that he saw an ongoing crime (犯罪)
The policemen took the woman to the security office and searched her bag carefully. The woman didn’t seem like an experienced shoplifter (商店扒手). All they found was just some food, nothing else. She was obviously terrified, and her face was wet with tears. One policeman asked the other, “It
6 . Province pays tribute (致敬) to a man, 24, who died trying to rescue a suicidal (自杀的) woman. Chen Jianjun, a 24-year-old firefighter from Anhui province, was granted the Anhui May 4th medal after his death—the highest honor for outstanding young people in the province on Saturday, a day after he died while trying to rescue a woman who was threatening to jump off a building.
On Friday morning, the public security bureau in Mengcheng county, Bozhou, received a call about a woman who was attempting to commit suicide.
During the rescue effort, Chen and the woman fell from the roof of a four-story shopping mall. Both of them died after emergency treatment failed, according to a statement released by Mengcheng police.
“The woman was emotional and ignored the persuasion of police and firefighters. She suddenly jumped off the building, and a firefighter moved forward to rescue her. They both fell in the process,” it said. A video clip (片段) circulated online showed a woman in black walking on the roof while Chen, dressed in an orange uniform, was trying to approach her from behind. As the woman suddenly stepped forward, he rushed to grab her, but they suddenly fell off the roof together. Chen held on to the woman as they fell.
On Sunday, an eyewitness told Jimu News—a news portal of Chutian Metropolis Daily, a newspaper based in Hubei province—that an air cushion (垫子) was laid on the ground, and firefighters kept moving it to match the movements of the woman on the roof, but she kept changing her position too quickly for them to keep up with her.
Chen was from Huainan, Anhui. A firefighter since 2014, he helped fight more than 1,300 fires and saved about 100 people, China Fire and Rescue said on its WeChat social media account.
People hailed the young firefighter as a hero and expressed their respect on social media platforms. On Saturday night, dozens of Mengcheng residents gathered at the site of the tragedy (不幸) to pay tribute to Chen, lighting candles to honor his sacrifice.
The video showed Chen was attached to a safety rope while falling, but it is not clear why it failed to hold him and the woman.

7 . Surgery (外科手术) and hospital stays are scary things to face for a child. At the Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio, there’s a creative doctor called Dr. Robert Parry doing his part to ease young minds. Not only is he a doctor, but he’s also an artist.
Dr. Robert Parry has been working at the hospital since 2011 and has performed over 10,000 surgeries. Each time, he takes the opportunity to decorate a child’s wound dressing by drawing something special for them on it. It takes him just five minutes, but for the children, it makes all the difference.
“It’s been a pretty special thing for everyone,” Dr. Parry explained. “It’s fun for me to do that. The parents and the children really enjoy it.”
Samantha Manning got to experience Dr. Parry’s work. He got operated on her 11-month daughter, Rose in 2017. “We had no idea ahead of time that this was Dr. Parry’s special skill,” she recalled.
“We were really moved by it,” she continued. “The rose garden showed how much they cared and they really lifted our spirits.”
As for what inspired Dr. Parry to provide the personal touch, he said that another doctor’s similar practice gave him the idea. Dr. Perry Stafford would cut dressing material into fun shapes for patients at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland during Dr. Parry’s residency (实习期).
Dr. Parry has also mastered the art of drawing on the dressings without infection (感染). “I use Telfa dressings (not an ideal material for art) and cut out the outline of the image by hand,” he explains. “Then I color it by using color pens. It does not go directly on the wound—it’s protected by a plastic dressing.”
“During a time of stress for families, it is nice to be able to help them smile and laugh,” Dr. Parry said. “This is something positive that I can do for them, which is what I like most about it.”

10 . Eddie Browning and his wife Cindy were living in a run-down camper that had been ruined by a fire. Because of its poor state, the couple found themselves freezing during the cold weather. Sadly, they couldn’t afford to have it repaired.
They desperately needed a roof over their head and prayed every night that they would someday have a home. Eventually, their prayers were answered—and they have children to thank for it. Dozens of students from Elm Street Elementary in Rome, Georgia, and volunteers built a tiny house for Eddie and Cindy in 2017. The group presented it to the couple at the Georgia Tiny House Festival in Eatonton at the Lavender Farm.
The couple was overwhelmed with delight upon seeing their new home. And they were surprised to hear that this project was initiated by school children. The students had started constructing the tiny house a year before but could not present it to the Brownings because they didn’t have a place to legally put it. Thankfully, the Georgia Tiny House Festival and Lavender Farms organizers heard about their dilemma and allowed them to put it on the farm.
The groups’ act of kindness didn’t stop there. They also assisted the kids in adding electricity, plumbing, and a larger extension to the home. Eventually, what started out as a really tiny home with only sleeping bags, supplies, and a propane heater grew bigger than anyone had ever imagined.
The spirit of generosity further spread around. Soon, donors, corporate sponsors, and volunteers began pitching to fill the house with appliances and make it livable for the Brownings. The project was so successful that the Elm Street Elementary School pledged to build a new house each year for a family who needed it. They even have a motto for their mission: “tiny house, big dreams.”
