One morning, my family and I woke up and went to eat breakfast—until we heard barking and scratching at the door. When my mom opened the door, we saw a puppy (小狗). We looked around to see if we could find its owner, but there was no one. We took it inside and fed it.

Regardless of how badly I wanted to keep the puppy, we decided to look for the owner. We looked all day, but we failed. We talked about whether we should keep looking or if we should look the next day. We all agreed to look for its owner the next day.

So the next day my family and I looked for the dog’s owner. It was so hard looking for its owner. We were looking for flyers (传单) that involved the puppy, but no luck.

“We won’t stop looking,” my mom and dad said. We were going to take care of the puppy until we found its owner.

When we woke up in the morning, we went to a pet shop to buy the puppy some dog food. After that we went back home to feed the puppy, and then we gave it a nice bath. It was so dirty that the fur was black and sticky, but after we gave it a bath, it turned white. And I noticed there was a collar (项圈) on him, which said “Coby”. After a while, we went to look for the puppy’s owner, but my mom stayed at home, and it was only my dad and me this time.

We continued looking until we found a flyer. We looked at it. It said, “Lost Dog: Please Help if Found.” Then we looked at the picture; it looked exactly like Coby. We were all happy we found a flyer that was for Coby.

There was a phone number on the flyer.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述作者在学校里遇到一些事,使作者感到有压力,但是作者的父亲通过教作者做面包,告诉作者要学会等待,要放松心态去对待生活中的一些事情。

2 . My dad doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would bake great bread, but he is and he does. Every Saturday he produces homemade bread. When he’s done, the whole house smells delicious.

The shop where Dad works doesn’t have enough work, so he’s under pressure. I think Dad bakes bread to help him relax.

Now I’ve been feeling kind of stressed out myself since I found out I didn’t make the school swim team. I think Dad knew I was feeling bad. Last Saturday he asked me how things were going. I said OK, even though I didn’t feel OK at all. He looked at me for a moment, and then he said it was time for me to help. Then he headed to the kitchen.

I followed right behind him. Once we were there, Dad took out his big mixing bowl, handed me a large wooden spoon, and told me to mix while he added the ingredients (烹饪原料). Dad isn’t big on measuring, but he knows how much of each ingredient to use, and the bread always turns out great.

Dad showed me how to knead the dough (揉面团). Next came the most difficult part — doing nothing. We put the dough back into the bowl and then we waited for more than an hour for the dough to slowly rise and double in size. Next, we divided it into two and waited for it to rise again.

Dad said the waiting is always the hardest part. “It’s hard to resist (抵制) putting the dough directly into the oven (烤箱), but if you do, the bread will be hard. The most important lesson of all is learning to be patient.” Dad taught me more than how to bake bread.

1. What can we learn about the author’s father?
A.He is living a relaxing life.B.He tries his best to support his family.
C.He has his own way to reduce pressure.D.He is more like a baker than a worker.
2. Why is the author feeling stressed?
A.School isn’t going well.B.She dislikes making bread.
C.She feels sorry for her father.D.Some classes aren’t worth it.
3. What do the underlined part “Dad isn’t big on measuring” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Dad is skilled at measuring.B.Dad dislikes measuring.
C.Dad is crazy for measuring.D.Dad is careless about measuring.
4. What lesson has the author learned from her dad?
A.Never give up.B.Enjoy time with family.
C.Believe in yourself.D.Take life easily.

4 . When school started on that warm August day, I threw myself into everything I did, including playing volleyball. I decided to become beautiful, or at the very least, skinny. I stopped eating completely. Soon I began losing weight, which thrilled me, and I even grew to love the tiredness and lightheadedness (头晕) that came with my poor diet, for those feelings meant that I was winning.

As the season progressed, things had become tense between my head volleyball coach, Coach Smith, and me. She felt that something was wrong with my health. She talked with me about my eating and was angry that I wouldn’t listen to her when she tried to make me eat. I was angry and hurt and she was suspicious (怀疑的) and worried. We fought constantly. Then my malnourishment (营养不良) started to affect my performance. I was so tired that practice and games were becoming a struggle. One afternoon, with hurt in her eyes, Coach Smith asked me what I had eaten and I told her nothing yet. She looked at me, disappointment in her eyes, knowing she couldn’t make me stop, and walked away.

A couple of weeks later I attended the volleyball dinner for our volleyball team. I stood there as my coach managed to say something nice about me. I realized then that I had ruined my senior year by being disrespectful, and I had probably ruined hers as well. So that evening I wrote her a letter apologizing and thanking her.

Then one Saturday, as I was reading in the library, I felt someone gently take my arm and say softly, “Lynn Jones, how are you doing?” I looked up and saw the familiar face. “Thanks for the letter,” she said. “It meant a lot.”

When I think of a coach, I think of someone above me, someone who gives instruction-not a friend. But Coach Smith is different, and, like any other good friend, she dealt with my problem in a determined way even when I hated her for it at that time. I didn’t deserve her kindness, but she gave it anyway. I will forever be grateful for her help, and now for her friendship.

1. How did the author feel after she started losing weight?
A.Stupid.B.Satisfied.C.Funny.D.Nervous.
2. Why did the author fight with Coach Smith?
A.She refused to go on a diet.B.She caused her team to lose.
C.She changed the training schedule.D.She refused to eat properly.
3. Why did the author write a letter to Coach Smith?
A.She felt sorry for what she did.
B.She felt sorry for eating too little food.
C.She decided to improve her performance.
D.She wanted to build a close relationship with Coach Smith.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Unexpected FriendshipB.A Fight with My Coach
C.A Strict Volleyball CoachD.My Way of Losing Weight

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Five years ago, I had a nine-to-five job, and I usually commuted (通勤) to work by bus. Those long tiring hours of travelling were always annoying. But one day, it was healing.

It was a warm March evening, and I’d just taken a seat on the bus that would take me home. I sat in the third row, by the window, on the driver’s side. It was nearly 6:00 p.m., but the bus was not yet full and the driver gave no signs that he intended to get the bus on the road anytime soon.

A middle-aged woman took a seat opposite me. She was crying. Not speaking to anyone in particular, she tearfully told her story.

She had come to the city to visit her daughter. On the way to the last stop, a thief had stolen one of her bags. It had contained half of the money she’d brought with her. The other half was rolled in a handkerchief and hidden under her blouse, so she fortunately still had some money left.

The bus conductor, driver, and other passengers listened to her story. After a few minutes, she stopped crying, took out some cheese bread from her bag, and began to eat, looking still worried.

An old man in tattered (破旧的) clothes got on the bus. He sat in the seat directly in front of the woman.

After a few minutes, all seats were taken. The driver got behind the wheel and started the engine. The bus conductor collected tickets and began asking us where we were getting off. When he came to the old man’s seat, he became doubtful and asked the old man whether he had any money. The old man admitted that he did not. He explained that he had spent all his money this morning when he’d accidentally got on the wrong bus and now he was trying to go home.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。短文叙述了作者夫妇发现弃婴,领养弃婴的故事。

7 . Twelve years ago, Danny called me from a dark, damp subway station. “A baby!” he shouted. “Get down here, and flag down a police car or something.” By nature, Danny is a very calm person, so when I could almost feel his heartbeat through the phone line, I ran.

When I got to the subway station, Danny was holding a light-brown-skinned baby, about a day old. The baby had been wrapped (被包裹) in an oversize black sweatshirt and left on the ground in a corner behind the gate.

What neither of us knew, or could have assumed, was that Danny had not just saved an abandoned infant; he had found our son.

Three months later, Danny appeared in family court to tell the story of finding the baby. Suddenly, the judge asked, “Would you be interested in adopting this baby?” The question surprised everyone in the courtroom, except Danny, who answered, simply, “Yes.”

“But I know it’s not that easy,” he said.

“Well, it can be,” said the judge before giving orders to allow me to be a parent-to-be.

My first reaction, when I heard, went something like, “Are you crazy? How could you say yes without asking me?

In three years as a couple, we had never discussed adopting a child: I was an devoted playwright (剧作家) working as a part-time word clerk. Danny was a respected yet wildly under-paid social worker. We had a roommate, who slept in our living room, to help pay the rent.

We knew how many challenges couples usually faced when they want to have a baby. And while Danny had patience and selflessness, I didn’t know how to change a diaper (尿布), let alone nurse a child. I didn’t trust the social system and was sure there would be difficulties. Also, I couldn’t handle parenthood. So I promised myself I wouldn’t devote to it.

The caretaker held the baby and then placed him in my arms. But when the baby stared up at me, with all the innocence and hope he showed to me, I, like Danny, completely fell for him.

1. Why did the author rush to the subway station?
A.Because Danny finally found their son.
B.Because she sensed Danny met something urgent.

D.Because someone gave birth to a baby there.
2. How did the author feel on hearing Danny’s answer to the judge’s question?
A.Excited by Danny’s words.
B.Crazy to be a parent-to-be.
C.Angry about Danny’s decision.
D.Upset about losing her authority.
3. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that ______.
A.the author will adopt the baby
B.the couple were not to take the baby
C.the baby will bring hope to the family
D.the couple love each other very much
4. What is the author’s intention of writing the passage?
A.To introduce a story of a poor family.
B.To inform people of the difficulty of adopting a baby.
C.To call on people to donate money to them.
D.To show human’s kindness and love by nature.
