Three years ago I failed an important exam in my life and became a student at a ordinary school. Although I felt disappointed at the shabby campus and my poorly-equipped classroom, but I found the teachers impatient and considerate. Beside, I enjoyed the friendly class atmosphere. I decided to make the best it. I worked hard and got along good with my teachers and classmates. Whenever I had difficulties, they are always available. Soon, I became one of the top student in my class, that greatly increased my confidence and got me motivated. My experience tells me that it is not what you are given but how you make use of it that determines who we are.
3 . Growing pains and gains
It’s not easy to grow up. Actually it’s far from easy. Growing up can be a real “pain” for some of us. We are always doing things that someone else makes us do and aren’t allowed to do all the things we like. Sometimes we feel stuck, sometimes we are fearful, and sometimes we just don’t understand why we can’t stay young forever. When we look back on all the challenges in life with a positive attitude, we realize that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains!
As a young girl my parents forced my sisters and me to do so many things that I never liked. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time I hated music, just because it was what they wanted me to do. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched my life in so many ways. I realize that my parents and teachers were always pushing me along. not because they wanted me to suffer(受苦)but because they wanted me to succeed in life. They’ve always wanted me to have a better life than they did themselves.
Every moment of our lives is either living or dying, so live life to its fullest! We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just small pains in life. They might seem so huge at the time but we must be strong. Think about how we would feel if we had no fear and live life like that. The future is ours!
A little hard work and sweat never hurt anyone! If we realize that these pains are just small bumps(凸块)on our road to success we will realize that our growing pains are actually growing gains!

I worked eight hours a day for three week. The job was hard and bored, and it seemed endless, what made me so tired that I nearly gave it up halfway. And I stuck to it with great determination .Every day I start off for work early in the morning and got to home late in the evening Finally, I finished the job before the new term began.

Will our parents check our homework? Not really. Since having already growing up, we can’t act like little baby and rely on our parents all the time.
When I was in Grade Three, my parents asked us to check my homework by myself. I don’t know what to do in that time, so I cried. Before that, I got used to correcting my own homework and became more independent.
Check homework by ourselves is very good habit. It can not only help us find mistakes in exams more easy but also let our parents worry less about our studies. Because parents will leave us some day, so we should learn to do everything by ourselves.

Happy is important in our life. In fact, it is always around us unless we put our heart into it.
I will never forget one thing. Once, I get a poor mark in math. I was worried and afraid go home. But when I got back home later, my parents had known which happened to me. He said to me,“It doesn’t matter, my child. Remembering we’ll be always beside you when you need help. We believe you can do the better next time. Never give up! ”I was moving and made up my mind to study harder and harder.
Whenever I am in troubles,I can feel my parents’ love. I want to be a good child for my parents.
9 . I stopped to watch my little girl busy playing in her room. In one hand was a plastic phone ; in the other a toy. I listened as she was speaking to her make-believe little friend and I’ll never forget the words she said, even though it was imagined.
She said, “Suzie’s in the corner because she’s not been very good. She didn’t listen to a word I said or do the things she should.” In the corner I saw her baby doll well dressed. It was obvious that she’d been put there to sit alone and think.
My daughter continued her “conversation”, as I sat down on the floor. She said, “I’m all fed up and I just don’t know what to do with her any more. She cries whenever I have to work and wants to play games too. She tries to help me with the dishes, but her arms just cannot reach... And she doesn’t know how to fold towels. I don’t have the time to teach. I have a lot of work to do and a big house to keep clean. I don’t have the time to sit and play - don’t you know what I mean?”
And that day I thought a lot about making some changes in my life, after listening to her innocent words which cut me like a knife. I hadn’t been paying enough attention to what I hold most dear. I’d been caught up in responsibilities that increased throughout the years.
But now my attitude has changed because in my heart I realize that I’ve seen the world in a different light through my little darling’s eyes. So let the cobwebs(蜘蛛网) cut the corners and the dust bunny rabbit rule the floor. I’m not going to worry about keeping up with them anymore.
I’m going to fill the house with memories of a child and her mother, for we have only one childhood and we will never get another.

10 . When I was a student at St. Joseph’s University, I began to spend time on the streets of Philadelphia, getting to know the men and women for whom these streets were their only home. The more I developed relationships with them and the more I got to know them, the harder it became to head home at night while they remained outside.
In this journey, I have had many great teachers --- including Georgianna Simmons, who lost nine of her toes to frostbite (冻伤), and Joe Williams, with a college degree, who runs a rescue center for homeless men.
I’ve been doing this work for more than thirty years. People who have nothing have taught me so much about life. The lesson they have taught me is that people who are homeless need the same chances we all need: housing, education, employment, and healthcare. Contrary to our society, which values those it believes productive and rich and often ignores those who struggle with homelessness, I believe that every man, woman, and child has gifts. Everyone matters!
Therefore, I work for a society in which each person is given the chances and resources to achieve their fullest potential (潜力). I also believe that our greatest power is released when people come together across social boundaries (边界) to form a community. It is through “the power of us ” that we come to know the deepest truth of our humanity. This is what I truly believe, “None of us are truly home until all of us are home.”
1. Which of the following is true about the author after he knew more about the homeless?A.He wanted to make friends with them. | B.He admired the life they were living. |

A.He has made studies on the homeless. |
B.He has been homeless for a long time. |
C.He has done something good for the homeless. |

B.We should provide houses for the homeless. |
C.The homeless have fewer chances than us. |
D.The number of the homeless is increasing. |
A.Everyone matters |
B.How the homeless live |
C.The best way to help the homeless |
D.What we should do to help ourselves |
