1 . You are out of work. You hate your job.    1    You are looking for your first job. Where do you start?

If you are like most Americans, you’ll probably email your resume to a lot of companies. You might search for job postings on the Internet. But experts say you won’t have much luck.

One thing you can do is read Richard Bolles’s What Color Is Your Parachute? This book is different from other job-hunting manuals. Bolles helps you find your ideal job: a job that fits you, a job that makes you happy. What kind of job is ideal for you? You need to have a clear picture in your mind of the job you want.    2

Bolles says that you must think about three things before you can find your ideal job:

1. Your skills. What do you like to do? What do you do well? Are you good at talking to groups? Growing vegetables? Teaching? Drawing on the computer?    3     For example, a mother of four   children is probably good at managing people (children!). This woman may be a good manager.

2.     4     Where do you like to work? Do you like to work outside? At home? In an office? Alone or with others? What kinds of people do you like to work with?

3. Job rewards. How much money do you need? How much money do you want? Do you need a lot of vacation time?    5     What makes you feel good about a job?

So, if you are looking for a job or if you have a job but want a new one, remember: Don’t just email your resume out to every company. Don’t just answer Internet job postings. And don’t wait for friends to give you a job.

A.Job setting.
B.Job description.
C.What else do you want from a job?
D.You aren’t satisfied with your career.
E.Bolles asks you to think about all your skills.
F.The book was first written in 1970.
G.The book has many exercises to help you draw this picture.

4 . The Forbidden City is well known for being full of Chinese cultural and historical relics. But Masters in the Forbidden City does not just focus on the stories of the past. Instead, the documentary film, which came out in Chinese cinemas on Dec. 16, focuses on ordinary people—the restorers of relics and antiquities.

The stories are told at a slow and relaxed pace, reflecting the restorers’ work. Restoration of cultural relics and antiques can be time-consuming, and sometimes boring. Yet these restorers’ patience and peace of mind are especially precious in a society where everything is changing so fast.

“If you choose this job, you have to stand hours of work sitting on a chair. You need to be quiet and get used to being quiet,” says Wang Jin, an ancient clock repair expert.

A touching part of the documentary is the spirit of craftsmanship in the restorers. “Years of dull work requires not only skill, but also faith and spirit,” China Daily commented. “Looking for precision and perfection, devoting yourself to work, patience, endurance, loneliness. All these qualities come from the ‘craftsman spirit’.”

But unlike the popular idea of serious experts who sit around being serious, the documentary shows off the enthusiasm of the restorers. They play their guitars and make jokes about each other after a long day of restoration work. One scene that has been very popular with Internet users features a young female restorer riding a bicycle through the empty Forbidden City on a Monday. While she is doing this, a narrator says, “The last person to do this was Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing dynasty.”

Masters in the Forbidden City has proved many people’s ideas about antique restorers wrong, allowing them to realize that they are not old, dull professors, but people in their 40s, 30s and even 20s who can be quite pleasing to the eye.

1. What’s the main purpose of the documentary?
A.To display relics seldom seen.B.To draw attention to the restorers’ lives.
C.To show people how antiques are restored.D.To praise the craftsmanship of the restorers.
2. According to Wang Jin, we can learn that antique restorers _______.
A.often get tired of their work.B.need to be patient and peaceful.
C.don’t need to do restoration work fast.D.have to do the restoration on their own.
3. The bicycle-riding scene in the documentary is used to _______.
A.break the dull image of restorers.B.show the hobbies of younger restorers.
C.remind the audience of the last emperor.D.encourage the young to consider the future.
4. Where can you most probably find the passage?
A.In a news report.B.In a career research.
C.In a cultural magazine.D.In an interview record.

6 . I’m A Nurse By Day But An Artist By Night

Hello everyone! My name is Joe Mari, I am a male nurse from the Philippines who is working overseas, and sometimes, being away from your family and friends, you’ll mostly feel lonely, bored, and homesick. So in my spare time I draw portraits of people using Faber Castell classic coloured pencils, ballpoint pen, and pencil for black and white ones.

I started drawing and won my first inter-school competition when I was 5. By that time I had no dreams of being an artist, as I thought it was all a ‘game’ and I was never serious about art. I became a part of my school paper as a cartoonist until high school and then time passed and I have forgotten about drawing. It went on to being just a hobby until I tried to get back at it again two years ago. I watched YouTube videos every night, trying to figure out how to improve my skills. Drawing people’s faces is a fascination for me, which is obviously displayed in my works.

You’re probably wondering why I never took any courses related to art, and why I am a nurse. You see, there is a fine line between your dreams and your passion. I took the medical field in hopes of giving service to as many people as I can. I have always been fascinated by the world of Science and by the world of Art at the same time.

My intention in sharing this story is not to compare, but rather to bring out whatever other interests you may have inside you. Sure you may be working in front of a desk at day, but who knows, maybe you also rock out with your band at night. With enough patience and perseverance, nothing can prevent passion.

I hope I inspired you all with my story, so go on, get that paper and whatever tool you can use to create art!

7 . Twenty-five years ago, most young Britons wanted a career in law, to be a doctor, or, if they were creative enough, to take up singing. But today, things stand differently.

According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK company, the “dream job” of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger, or “vlogger” (视频博主). The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as much as 40 percent of them put vlogger as their number one choice on a list of ideal careers.

This change is undoubtedly as a result of the Internet and social media. They have made it so much easier to reach audience of the world, without having to enter a career in show business in the traditional way.

In the past, the biggest stars were trained by the Hollywood studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become a star. Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting with their fans about everyday life.

However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they fail to notice the fact that only those who are successful earn fame and fortune. For every success there are hundreds of others who never get off the starting line. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that remain dreams forever.

Although being vloggers is popular, some young people choose to follow careers that don’t necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the Internet to share their hobbies. Young Israeli David Leshaw, for example, runs a business called the Finishers Club. It’s an online platform for runners to keep a record of their races. His job allows him to express his enthusiasm, and is always a learning experience. And that's enough for him.

1. What is the passage mainly about?
A.Most young Britons choose to be vloggers as their job.
B.The Internet is influencing young Britons’career choice.
C.The Internet is taking the place of traditional studios.
D.Young Britons can not find jobs without the Internet.
2. Why do more and more young Britons choose to be vloggers?
A.Vloggers can earn greater fame and more money on the Internet.
B.There is too much competition in the traditional show business.
C.The Internet makes it convenient to enter show business.
D.Anyone with a computer will surely become a star.
3. What can we infer from Paragraph 5?
A.Only a few vloggers can be famous and wealthy.
B.A vlogger can not earn fame and fortune.
C.People often see the bright side of being a vlogger.
D.Dreams will always remain dreams.
4. What do young people like David do on the Internet?
A.Learn from others.B.Become an online hit.
C.Hold running races.D.Combine jobs with hobbies.
