Job Title: Digital Business Solutions Intern

Work location: Remote/Beijing

Duration: Six months

The Digital Bureau Solution is responsible for ICT operations within UNESCO, and reports to the Assistant Director General to Administration(ADG/ADM). The team oversees the implementation of UNESO’s digital strategy, with the delivery of more integrated and properly designed, project and knowledge management in support of programme delivery; the supply of a flexible IT infrastructure (基础建设), and best-in-class service management to enable effective programme delivery; and the supply of strengthened cyber security and digital risk management.

Job responsibilities

Network Monitoring and Arrangement: Assist in monitoring network performance and diagnosing connectivity issues using network monitoring tools; while gaining hands-on experience with network device arrangement, including routers, switches, and firewalls;

Cloud Platform Familiarity: Gain experience with cloud platforms by setting up and arranging cloud resources; assist in planning the migration of pre-stored applications and workloads to the cloud:

Server and Network Troubleshooting: Learn to troubleshoot network problems, such as slow connections or connection lost;

Documentation: Help update and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams and device inventories;·User Support and Troubleshooting: Provide basic user support, including password resets and account creation, and learn about helpdesk ticketing systems;

Requirements

You must be at least 20 years old to apply.

You have recently graduated with a Master’s degree or PhD, 12 months prior to the start of the internship; You should have an excellent command, both written and spoken, of English or French. For many American high school seniors and their families, May 1 is “National College Decision Day,” when students make a decision about their academic future.     1     According to a recent survey, more than half of Americans don’t even think college is worth the cost. This is upsetting, as completing college is as important as ever.

    2     Even in today’s competitive labor market, college graduates find work much easier and tend to command significantly higher incomes. The unemployment rate for those with a bachelor’s degree or greater is currently half that of those with a high school degree. This college income advantage is due to technological advances like the personal computer and the Internet, which have caused a huge demand for skilled workers. The rapid advances today in automation and artificial intelligence will further increase the need for a highly skilled workforce.     3    

It is understandable why many students and families suspect that college is no longer “worth it.” College tuition has been rising for years, and many students fear being burdened with loans after graduation. But in fact, the net price of a four-year college, which is what students pay after financial aid, has been falling since 2018 and is now lower than it was in 2006.     4     In other words, the investment paid off.

4 . If you’re looking for any sort of career advice, it’s likely you’ve heard a certain suggestion before: Pursue your passion! In this economy, you’ll barely make any money no matter what you do, so why not do something you’re passionate about?

However, that’s not exactly how the world works. Passion is rarely enough to get you through on its own. Finding a project you love is all well and good on a sunny day when you’re feeling okay. But on those gray days when you’re suffering from the flu or you’re otherwise down, passion is rarely enough to get it done.

I know that feeling. At the most basic level, I spend every day writing. I’m passionate about writing and the topics I cover. But today, it’s too cold outside. I didn’t get enough sleep and all I can think about is crawling into a nice warm bed. Yet, I’m sitting here, typing up a post just for you. How do I keep it up?

There’s another route you could go. You could take on anything that pays the bills, then find fun projects you’re passionate about on the side. This is exactly the route I took when I was a freelancer (自由职业者) fresh out of college. That approach, as it happens, leads straight to passion burnout.

The reason I’m still planted firmly at my keyboard on a day when I don’t have an immediate deadline is not just because I’m passionate about writing. I also have a sense of purpose. Besides following your passion, you also need to define your purpose. I write to help businesses with their content because I know my writing makes a difference for them.

My purpose keeps my passion. My work is something I’ll stick to whether or not I feel passionate about writing anything today.

You can find your purpose as well as your passion-and then find a place where both intersect (交叉). It may be easier to find a day job you can tolerate. But the only way to find something that works for you is to get involved with different groups and to explore different purposes you care about. You don’t need an all-consuming cause, but you do need something you care enough about to give up sleeping in on the weekends. Only then will you really be capable of pursuing your passion, and your purpose along with it.

6 . Ever wonder what happens to spacecraft after they get launched to space? Well, that is where my job as an instrument operations engineer comes in. My job consists of planning, generating, and operating scientific instruments in-flight. I am grateful for having worked on missions at Saturn, the Moon, and our own planet Earth.

When I was a high-schooler, I was unsure of what college I wanted to attend, or what major I wanted to choose. After receiving an email from a college called Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), I decided to apply to a summer program they were offering with the encouragement of my mom. After participating in that program, I knew that MIT was the right university for me. The passionate students and boundless opportunities developed a feeling of belonging in me that led me to apply and eventually get accepted.

The most exciting and fulfilling part of being an engineer is that I am able to work on projects that benefit humanity. When people think of the space industry, they picture the outer reaches of our solar system. What they may not imagine is the great body of work being done to study our own home-Earth. I am thankful to have a career that allows me to commit myself to that responsibility.

The highlight of my career has been witnessing the end of the Cassini mission to Saturn. Some of the people on the team had been working on the mission for longer than I had been alive, but they still treated me as one of their own. I was given the opportunity to operate the cameras that would catch breathtaking images of the planet. And when the Cassini spacecraft had run out of fuel, I quickly learned that it was not just the end of the mission, but the end of a team. The night we watched with bittersweet longing as its signal faded to nothing is something that I will always keep in my memories. And while Cassini will be remembered for its historic contributions, what I will remember it for is the team it brought together.

My friends often ask why a girl could achieve all these. I always grew up a big fan of fiction. I read the Harry Potter books and loved anything fantasy. I realized that a common theme of hero stories is that the hero must always make a choice to start their adventure. If you don’t pick up the sword in your own story because you are afraid of what may happen next, you risk not having a story at all.

Get up at 6 am, arrive at the hospital one hour earlier to help patients check in, and accompany patients during consultations… In recent years, “patient escorts” has emerged as a new industry, and those who have taken on this career are known as “people who sell time”, 26-year-old Zhang Tian is one of them.

September 4 was a lucky day for Zhang Tian. On this day, Zhang Tian saw a video about patient escorts on a short video platform. The daily routine of patient escorts shown in the video fascinated her and gradually inspired her to take this on as a business. She browsed through many platforms and read multiple information and found there indeed exists a certain demand for patient escorts, especially for the elderly, children, and pregnant women. Since she had never engaged in this kind of work before, she spent two days in major hospitals in Wuhan, in order to familiarize herself with all the departments on different floors, as well as the processes of medical consultation and preparation for surgery.

After preliminary preparatory (预备的) work, Zhang Tian posted a video of myself-introduction on major social platforms, talking about the help and services a patient escort provides, as well as some tips for a quick and convenient medical consultation. At first, she was a little worried that her video would go unnoticed. However, after she uploaded the video, it got over 100 likes and she received her first ever offer as a patient escort.

The memory of her first task is still alive and fresh in her mind. She received a phone call on September 9 from a man whose father was seriously ill and might need surgery. He wanted Zhang Tian to accompany his father through his consultation and treatment.” Zhang Tian made full preparations before meeting her first client and did a very good job despite her nervousness.

“Later, the family expressed their gratitude to me over and over again, which warmed my heart and gave me a sense of achievement.” Zhang Tian said.

9 . Juliana is a 28-year-old Female Chief Engineer, who works in an oil tanker (油轮) in Brazil. She is one of the handful female chief engineers in the Country. The environment of an oil tanker is a tough one to work in and Juliana is one of the toughest chief engineers the company has. Her ship supplies fuel to other ships coming to the port and her job requires her to pay much attention all the time.

Unlike most chief engineers, who avoid getting dirt on their hands, Juliana loves to put her hands in grease (润滑油). She changes oil and engines and attends all daily works. According to Juliana, her job is not something that other women cannot do. Though the work on ship requires considerable amount of physical strength, a trained woman officer can easily deal with it. When asked the same question to Juliana, she said, “I think many things should be done not with force but with intelligence. Many men think that women do not have the ability, but it is up to the women to prove these men wrong. And it is very much possible if there is enough effort”.

Juliana wants women to explore several great opportunities that the shipping industry provides. She has been sailing as a chief engineer for last 2 years and she loves every bit of her job. She has sailed for as long as 45 days continuously from Brazil to China and she is very happy with the career choice she has made. Her work involves constant traveling to new places, during which, she has made many new friends and visited several interesting places. But what she loves most is the satisfaction she gets from doing something adventurous and unique.

Juliana wants to tell all the women out there in the world that they have great possibilities to seek a respectable position in the maritime (海上的) field. She feels that it is important for women to believe in themselves and look for unique career opportunities in the marine industry.
