Last Friday, I took part in an English speech contest holding in our school. There were twelve students in the final contest but I was one of them. Fifteen minutes before my turn, I picked my topic and prepared for them. I wrote down that I was going to say. However, when I stood in the front of all judges and students, I was extremely nervous. My mind was total empty. Then I took a deep breathe to relax myself and started my speech. The result was not as better as I had expected, but I preferred to regard it a challenge to myself. I learned a lot from the contest, which process benefited me most.

The other day our school carry out a survey about how the youth would choose between careers and families. Here is the result.There is around 26 percent of the surveyed students assumed that the youth should focus their attention on careers with the aim of living independently and achieving their goals.Therefore, about a third of the students hold a different view. They think that in spite the importance of one’s enterprise, the company and warm of families are the most crucial things in the world.The rest of the students support the opinion which there should be a properly balance. In the summary, I argue that not only should we work hard, but we are supposing to devote some time to our family members.

As the spring semester came to close, the Pierce College Art Department celebrated with our last presentation of the semester. The Art Gallery showcases more than 100 pieces, included pencil drawings, cardboard 3D design, art made out of clay and wood sculpting. For most of the art students, it was amazing to see and interacting with not only their peers but their professors through over the screen online. There was also an award ceremony hold for students for their outstanding work but perseverance throughout the semester. A student expressed how happy he was to receive the award with his exciting voice, “Art has helped me evolve via different medium.”

In order to learn more about Chinese history and raise their cultural awareness, we were organized to have a trip to our local history museum on last Sunday.
Locating in the southern part of our city, the museum is one of most frequently visited attractions for its various ancient exhibits. We see items from different times, that showed us the history behind. Beside, we not only heard a lot of interesting stories and learned about the lifestyle of ancient people.
Surrounded by these historic object, we were proud of our nation’s civilization achievements. This was an unforgettably experience.

Last week, an art exhibition held in our school library. I was fascinated by Chinese paintings, which also attract many foreign students. We noticed a vivid painting of a horse what seemed to gallop off the paper! Surprising, it was painted by a eighth grader. All the works were created by the students, who put our spare time into studying art despite of great academic pressure. The art exhibition brought us a lot of fun but helped us better understanding Chinese culture. How an amazing exhibition!

Lucy has awarded the title of “Star Student of the Week” for what she did for our class. On the hot afternoon of last Saturday, Lucy went downtown and walked from the one store to another, looking for the costumes we would wear for the singing contest. While the rest of us were enjoying our leisure time in cool and comfort rooms, she spent the whole afternoon search for right costumes. Finally, she found the right clothes. We tried us best and won the first prize in the contest.

In order to make the exchange students have a better understanding of Chinese culture and develop everyone’s cultural aware, the Students’ Union will organize a Chinese Culture Festival on the afternoon of October 9th, that will be held in the school hall. Here is some relevant details about them.

In order to offer a chance to show our artistic talent, our school will held a Culture Festival next Wednesday, that will be great fun.
The Calligraphy Exhibition is aimed at students who have a burnt passion for calligraphy. And there will have a singing competition in the dining hall. In addition to, a hands-on pottery (陶器) workshop would be open for the whole day. We can create the art works of your own with the help of some skilled workers. Our school held a show called “Us After Ten Years ”, when the speakers presented their future careers. I chose to be the diplomat (外交官). I’d like to present myself as a true spokes-person, either gentle like Wang Wenbin nor sharp like Zhao Lijian. Waiting my turn, I paced backstage with my heart beating wildly. Then comes my turn. I took a deep breath and walked onto the stage, waved to the audience. The bright lights and screams were surrounded me tightly. Fortunate, everything went smoothly. The heavy burden changed into a sense of pride. I’ m proud of me and Chinese diplomats, who meet challenge every day but manage to keep showing Chinese wisdom.

Last month was my school’s “Reading Month”, that required every student at my school read at least one classic book during the month. In the end of the month, students would gather in groups and discuss the books they read. It was a great time to learn more knowledges, develop our reading interest, and exchange different opinions with each other.
I finally have the time to finish The Little Prince, wrote by the French author Antoine de Saint-Exupery. It tells the story of a boy from space who travels around the universe to meet people of every background. He views each world through her innocent eyes. The words of wisdom in a book, such as “One sees clearly only with the heart”, touched me deep.
Looking back, I was really enjoyed the adventure with the little prince, all thanks to this “Reading Month”.
