1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

Anna was the school's best dancer and this was what she told her parents everyday. “Mrs.Kelly says I am very gifted,” she said, “She says maybe I will be the best dancer in our ballet(芭蕾)team. ”

Mrs. Kelly had said these things, but she had said so to a number of dancers in order to encourage them because she believed it’s important to get students inspired. Anna was also inspired by her words to be winner and beat everyone else. However, Mrs Kelly actually preferred that Anna just liked to dance on the stage.

“Students! Students!”Mr. Kelly called to the small group of girls around Anna. “I’d like to introduce to you our new student, Sally. She loves dancing as you do. I hope you all take time to say hi to her nicely.”

Anna looked at Sally with dancing shoes in her hands. Sally did not have a dancer’s body: She was short, with legs that looked like they belonged to a frog instead of an eleven-year-old girl. Anna felt relaxed and was sure this girl would not dance well.

In the following weeks, however, it turned out that Anna made a wrong guess about Sally’s dancing performance. In fact, Sally was not jut a good dancer, but an amazingly gifted dancer. She danced in beautiful ways that Anna thought was impossible for such a short girl.

What’s more, Sally was a nice girl. She often helped girls with difficult dance moves. She was active, She was smart, and everyone liked her. It seemed that Sally was taking everything away from Anna.

Anna was sad and mad. The school ballet team would pick out the best dancer in only two weeks. She worried that Sally would win the contest and become the best dancer.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I am very delighted to enter my ideal school. For most freshmen, August is the month for military training, which serves as a good chance to get familiar with new classmates and adapt to campus life.

Our school’s training took place from Aug 23 to 29. One of the challenges was to make a blackboard presentation in the new classroom. When I found out that I was in charge of this project, I had butterflies in my stomach. After all, this was the first activity in our school life.

“Would other top students alienate (疏远) me? Could I manage to both complete this project and rehearse for the closing concert? What if my classmates wouldn’t follow instructions under my leadership? I was thinking of these tricky questions by myself.

The project began on Aug 24. The group of blackboard presentation was composed of four girls. The three other girls in the group were flexible. We gave up our lunch break hour and returned to the dormitory later at night so as to work longer on the project. One girl questioned my design, saying that we should abridge (删减) the text and leave more space for pictures. The disagreements between us upset me from time to time, but whenever there was a conflict, I tried to stay calm, decide whether to take her suggestions and then make adjustments accordingly. Gradually, I found her to be a person of strong opinion and organizational capabilities. Sometimes I was absent for a rehearsal, and I felt relieved to leave the project in her care. Other classmates turned out to be amazingly warm-hearted. Every day, five or six students came to ask me if they could help out with the decorations. Then came the big day.

Jane was a disabled college student. Her traveling around mainly depended on a wheelchair, but Jane studied hard and got two degrees. Her kindness and determination deeply impressed her professors and many schoolmates, and she was loved by them.

May 19th 2019, that was the day Jane would graduate with her bachelor’s degree. The graduation ceremony was to be held on the football field. Seats for the graduates were set up on the grass, while family, friends, and other audience members crowded into stadium, Jane’s proud parents had traveled far to see her graduate.

Jane and other graduates would go to the stage at the end of the football field to receive their diplomas from schoolmaster. On that day, a folding chair was removed at the end of a row of graduates, and Jane’s wheelchair fitted into the space nicely. When the graduation ceremony began, the schoolmaster gave an inspiring speech, encouraging students to work hard and dream big. Later, the period of presenting graduates with diplomas began.

Many graduates including Jane’s good friend Carolyn, one by one walked across the football field in their graduation dresses and received their diplomas. They smiled brightly for the cameras and returned to their seats to cheers from the audience. At last, it was Jane’s turn. Carolyn began pushing her across the field toward the ramp (斜坡) and the stage to help her get the diploma. Jame was thankful and joyful, expecting to celebrate the big moment in her life. And her parents watched her excitedly.

When moving forward, Carolyn and Jane felt the eyes of the crowd. Then sadly, near the ramp, one wheel of Jane’s wheelchair sank deep into an unexpected big hole hidden in the grass. Then the wheelchair fell to one side and Jane fell on the grass. Her graduation dress was covered with wet mud. Jane’s face burned with shame, embarrassment and shock at once. She was worried people would laugh, with tears in her eyes.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Andrew was a new student in my class, who had emotional management problems. Since he had been suspended from class many times in previous years, I assured the worst when he came to my class.

Andrew sat at the back of the classroom. Every time I talked in front of the class, he would chat with the students around and even laugh loudly. Every time I called on him to answer a question, he would respond with a casual “I don’t know”. If I gave him a slight, criticism, he would become really angry. As an experienced teacher, I can always get students involved in class discussion or at least motivate them to sit quietly and listen attentively. But for Andrew, I was really powerless. He was just noisy and rude.

One day, Andrew was talking loudly in the class when I was teaching. I said in the usual tone of voice, “Andrew, why don’t you join in our discussions but have one of your own?” Hearing that, he got up from his chair, pushed the books over and shouted something. I couldn’t hear clearly what he said other than several rude words. After the class, Andrew was sent to my office, where I gave him a discipline referral a week’s out-of-school suspension. Deep in my mind, though, I didn’t expect referrals to be effective since students would return behaving even worse than before. But what else could I do with such a trouble-maker?

I had to admit this was one of my most awful teaching experiences. Andrew’s anger was almost unexpected and out of control. The week without Andrew’s presence was a wonderful time, and the class went on smoothly and efficiently. However, with his suspension week drawing to a close soon, I felt restless and uneasy. Would he disturb the class as always? Would he take revenge(报复)on me?

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“What am I doing wrong?” Jasmine Wilson thought to herself as she heavily breathed. And her breaths could be heard from nearby but were drowned out by the firm steps of several pairs of feet hitting the ground, each desperately pushing forward to get to the finishing line before the other. It was her first track meeting, and she had almost given up midway through the race.

She didn’t know why she decided to choose track and field as an after-school activity. As many times as she thought out her reasons as to why she chose to do a sport that requires a lot of hard training instead of something easier, she simply assumed that since it was from her interest, she was willing to try it out.

Track practices were much harder than she thought and very exhausting. At least, that’s what it felt like to her. When she observed her teammates, they were effortlessly working hard. She wanted to be like them, but it was difficult.

“Ms. Wilson, do you have a goal in mind?” Smith Jones, the coach of the track team asked Jasmine one day after practice. “I just want you to think about that. What are you running for? Who are you running for? What will you get out of this experience, and how will that help your overall goal? These are questions that you really need to consider, Ms. Wilson.” The older woman placed a hand on Jasmine’s shoulder with a firm look. “You don’t have to answer me right now, but I look forward to finding it out from you.”

Now, at the race, small beads of sweat ran down the sides of her flushed face and dripped onto the faded letters of the high school track team’s uniform, which was close to her skin. Jasmine could barely focus on the present moment because her heart was pounding too loud in her ears.

“Wilson! Ms. Wilson, are you alright?” The familiar voice made her come back to her senses.

The science teacher, Mr. Moose, decided that the school would have a paper airplane contest. Each student would design a paper airplane. And then they would take turns throwing their airplanes. The student whose airplane flew the farthest would win.

When Mr. Moose announced the paper airplane contest, all the students were very excited. Paul, who was on the wrestling team, said to other students: “I am the strongest. And I will be able to throw my airplane the farthest.”

However, another student, Brian, was thinking how he could win. He did not play any sports and was not very strong. But he loved airplanes and really wanted to win the contest.

Brian knew what he had to do. He went to the store and bought a big stack of paper. When he got home, he took the paper into the backyard. He took a piece of paper and folded an airplane. It didn't go very far, so Brian took another sheet and folded another airplane and threw it. This airplane went a little farther. Brian kept folding different kinds of airplanes and throwing them. Some went very far and some did not. Finally, when Brian had used all the paper, he walked up to the airplane that had flown the farthest and picked it up.

Cami’s First Soccer Game

Cami’s knees shook as she ran onto the field.

“OK!” called Wood, the coach of Diamond Team. “Remember three things. One, use your feet, not your hands. Two, aim for the goal. Three, which way are we going, Diamonds?”

Cami pointed, trying yelling “That way!”with her teammates, but only a weak voice came out. It was her first soccer game ever, about which Cami had been more excited than starting first grade. She had even tried to wear her soccer shoes to bed last night. But now she was scared, for there were too many kids, too many parents, and too many rules.

Twe-eet! The game was on! Mothers and fathers cheered. Cami ran, too, but not very close to the others. Her best friend, Rosa, kicked the ball. It popped (砰) out beside Cami, who froze, standing rooted to the spot. The group headed toward her, flowing past on either side. Mom and Dad cheered Cami on, but she just stood there, facing her goal.

At last, the whistle blew for halftime. After taking a short rest, Rosa yelled at Cami to pull her back onto the field. Cami’s team faced the other way for the second half. “Cami, you play defense,” Coach said.”Try to stop the ball from getting by you, OK?” Cami nodded and looked behind her at the Diamond goalkeeper. She clapped her gloves and smiled. However, Cami was too nervous to smile back. “Which way are we going, Diamonds?” Coach asked. This time Cami joined in. “That way!”

Twe-eet! Again, the players ran back and forth, up and down. But Cami still didn’t move. Dad shouted, “Go, Cami!” Mom cried, “Come on, Cami!” Cami swallowed hard. Her feet felt as if they were buried deep in beach sand. The players pounded toward her. Who had the ball? Then she saw Rosa out in front, dribbling (运球). But something was not right. Cami frowned.

8 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Sophie was dressed and all ready for her very first dance recital(舞蹈表演). When she started dance class last year, she didn’t know about the recital. She heard people talk about the recital but she didn’t know what it was. The recital was a chance for all of the parents and grandparents to see the dance students dance. It was at the high school every year and Sophie was going to dance on the stage in front of everyone. She did not like the thought of that. It scared her.

Yesterday she practiced her dance for the first time on the stage. There were only a few moms watching so it wasn’t too bad. But the thought of dancing in front of lots of people tonight was really scary.

“All ready to go?” Mom asked.

“Yes. I guess,” Sophie said.

“You don’t sound like you are ready. What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know. I don’t feel so good. I’m kind of afraid.”

Mom sat on the edge of Sophie’s bed. “Remember yesterday when you practiced and I was right in the front row? You did just fine!”

“But today there will be so many people!”

“When you go out on the stage, you just look right where I was sitting yesterday. I will be in that same seat. You just look at me and it will be just like yesterday! Let’s go!”

“What about the rest of the family?”

“They are coming in the other car. We have to be there a little early.”

Sophie thought about what her mom said all the way to the high school. Mom was always right, but Sophie wasn’t sure about this time. She still hated the thought of dancing in front of all those people.

When it was time for her to dance Sophie thought about what Mom told her. She sure hoped Mom was right. Her belly felt like butterflies were flying inside it. The music began to play.

9 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

It was a break time at the village school. The bell had rung, and the children had run out into the bright sunshine, wild with laughter and fun. They chased after each other and played heartily, with giggles lingering in the relaxing atmosphere.

All but poor Davy. He came out last and very slowly, but he did not laugh. He was in trouble, and the bright, golden sunlight did not make him glad.

He walked across the yard, and sat down on a stone behind the old maple. A little bird on the highest branch sang just to make him laugh.

But Davy did not notice it. He was thinking of the cruel words that had been said about his ragged clothes. The tears stole out of his eyes, and ran down his cheeks. He closed his eyes to hold back his tears and bit his lips tight.

Poor Davy had no father, and his mother had to work hard to keep him at school. The bell finally rang, indicating it’s time to come home.

At four o'clock that afternoon, he went home by the path that led across the fields and through the woods. He still felt sad. Davy did not wish to trouble his mother; so he wandered a while among the trees, and at last threw himself on the green moss (苔藓) under them.

Just then his teacher came along. She saw who it was, and stopped, saying kindly, “What is the matter, Davy?”

He drooped his head and did not utter a word, but the tears began again to well up.

“Won’t you tell me? Perhaps I can help you.”

Deeply encouraged by her warmth and sincerity, he poured out all his trouble he came across. When he ended, she was lost in deep thought and for a while she came up, gave Davy a consoling pat and said, cheerily, “I have a plan, Davy, that I think will help you.”

“Oh, what is it?” he said, sitting up with a look of hope, while a tear fell upon a blue violet (紫罗兰).

“Well, how would you like to be a little flower merchant?”

10 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was the last day of the month-long summer camp. All the camp leaders and volunteers were preparing for the grand wrap-up event that evening. Some were setting up chairs and tables outside; some were preparing water balloons for games we would play later; and some were cutting fruits and veggies for snacks.

One of the leaders, George, came to me, handed me a small broom and a dustpan, and asked me to sweep the gym. Alone. While the others were chatting and laughing outside. While the gym was dusty and stuffy (不通风的) after weeks of camp and crafts.

I didn’t have a choice. I was sixteen, and George was my elder. I was a staff member at camp, and George was my employer. I put on as cheerful a face as I could and began to sweep the floor of the gymnasium.

Every time I made a decent (合宜的) pile of dust and scraps (残羹剩饭) to push into the dustpan, I had a nice little part of the gym cleared. But I would look up and see the rest of the gym and realize how big the job was. The whole situation felt so unfair.

I wasn’t really happy then. I’m not proud of it, but I was angry as well. I could hear the sounds of people talking, laughing, and generally having a great time outside. There was silence in the gym, except for my sweep, sweep, sweep.

During a break between sweeps, I looked up. George was quietly and matter-of-factly moving the speakers and cleaning the stage at the front of the gym. I noticed he worked alone as well. He didn’t seem particularly excited about what he was doing, but I noted the calmness and joy in his eyes as he went about his work, doing what had to be done because he was there and he was able to do it.
