文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者和一位好友的深厚友谊,她们从高中时期的竞争对手到成为知己,共同经历了许多人生阶段,彼此支持。

1 . My best friends travelled to stay with my family last weekend. When she arrived, she went straight to the kitchen and, without asking, ate some dried fruit. She wasn’t being rude. I knew she would do this. We’ve known each other for almost 20 years. She can eat anything she wants from my kitchen. Indeed, I bought her favorite fruits and snacks that morning.

Our long weekend together was simple. I was recovering from surgery and couldn’t go to shopping malls. We passed the time running errands (做杂事), but there was never a quiet moment. We’ve lived in different cities for almost a decade. Reunions demand conversation.

Our personalities are matched, to be sure, and a shared history is indescribably (难以形容地) valuable. We were competitors at high school before bonding. Then we discovered many interests that we had in common. Our friendship developed itself quickly. We stayed companions and supported each other through law school and through our first jobs. Ours is a friendship for the ages.

There is something special about friends who know everything about you. They are rare. They have seen your bright lights of achievements, the depths of desperation and the boring routine of the in-between. It’s special to unpack feelings without wasting time filling in the blanks. As my long weekend shows, with such friends we don’t have to “do”, but we simply have to “be”. We drop the act, the performance, the public version of ourselves. The special friendships are those which never fail to delight us, whose continuation is worth the extra effort, despite distance and difference in our separate lives. I had the very great joy of this reminder last weekend. I’m lucky to have found this friend, and to see a future where her companionship remains. Being together is perfection.

D.Distance and difference strengthen friendship.
4. Why does the author write this text?

2 . Resolving (解决) Conflict in Friendships

Conflict is surely a common problem in life and friendships.     1     That’s because there isn’t enough depth to guarantee all the trouble it takes to smooth over the disagreement. Unfortunately, even when the friendship reaches a deeper level, conflict continues to happen and can break apart a relationship. Here are some resolutions.

Resolve it the day it happens. One rule my parents follow in their marriage is that they don’t go to bed angry with each other. They always attempt to resolve things the day it happens so that in the morning, it’s a fresh start with no past grudge (怨恨). I’ve found I need a short cool down period so that I don’t act in anger. For some, counting to one hundred before saying anything may be an option.     2

3     Sometimes if you sit down and talk things over, you begin to see where the other person is coming from. Realize that everyone has been created differently with various talents, abilities, and personality traits. For example, you might be a leader while your friend is more of a follower. You may be frustrated with him or her for not being very decisive. Yet it is important to understand that each person is unique and needs to be appreciated.

Initiate resolution.     4     Even when you think the other person is wrong, it’s not a bad thing to say “I’m sorry if I offended you in that way.” If you’re honest and genuine in delivering your words, there’s a good chance your friend will respond positively.

Most importantly, be loving in what you do. Try to focus on peacefully resolving the disagreement. It is not a most pleasant task to resolve conflict in any friendship.     5

A.Focus on the bigger picture.
B.Try to see the other person’s perspective.
C.Whatever you do, don’t let things ride for too long.
D.Be the first person in a fight to say sorry for your part.
E.Offering a listening ear shows you value the friendship.
F.Many shallow friendships end up being ruined after an argument.
G.However, it is worth the efforts because it results in a deeper friendship.

International Friendship Day is a day when friends show     1    (appreciate) for one another.

In 1919, International Friendship Day     2    (found) by Hallmark. It was intended to be a day for people     3     (celebrate) their friendship by sending each other cards. By 1940 the market had dried up, and finally, it died out completely. In April 2011, the United Nations     4    (official) recognized 30th July as International Friendship Day, although most countries still celebrate it     5     the first Sunday of August!

On International Friendship Day, taking a trip together to celebrate is an excellent way to make the day all about each other. You can visit places     6     you first met or go to wherever you promised each other to go. With so many people     7    (live) such busy lives, however, not everyone can plan a big day out for each other. But that’s what makes International Friendship Day such a     8    (wonder) time. Best friends understand that life often gets in the way, so they won’t be upset if there’s no big celebration in their honor. Moreover, with     9     rise of social media, we become more     10    (connect) than ever before, so International Friendship Day just gives everyone the chance to get together.

For courage, I seized the rope on Cho’s broad back as we passed my neighbor’s fence.

Walking by Mr. Groll’s yard is the best part of our morning walk… and also the worst. It is the best part because the roses talk to us. “Good morning, Cho,” whisper the rose smells to my guide dog’s nose. Now comes the worst part — the unfriendly shape nearby. that shades us: Mr. Groll. As usual, friendly Cho thumped (拍打) her tail. But Cho is just a dog; how can she know that this neighbor does not like me at all?

“Hello, Mr. Groll.” I greeted him as I did every morning. And like every other morning, he did not answer me. But I knew he was there, watching, behind his fence.

Maybe he’s afraid of me because I’m blind. Disabilities scare grown-ups sometimes. Then I remember: Yesterday I heard him playing checkers with my friend Jimmy, who’s in a wheelchair.

Cho and: I marched on, and my thoughts kept step. “Why does Mr. Groll ignore me? He likes roses. I like roses. Why can’t two people who like roses like each other? It’s a mystery to me.” I thought “Maybe he doesn’t like me because I’m a girl.” A skateboard passed by. “Hello, Mai and Cho!” my friend Jana cried. “Hi, Mr. Groll.”

I waited. If Mr. Groll ignored Jana, then the mystery was solved. But his voice called out, “Hello, Jana!”

The sound of it broke my heart. And I knew something I didn’t know before: Some people who can see can be blind. Sometimes, their hearts don’t see any better than my eyes do. And I also knew that unfriendly Mr. Groll likes Jimmy. And Jana. But not me and Cho.

Me and Cho! An idea brightened my mystery.

Maybe I did know why Mr. Groll didn’t talk to me!

I attached Cho’s rope to a post, and I felt my way along the fence.

The gate squeaked (嘎吱) open. “Mai! Be careful!”

As we walk the “path of life”, we may sometimes wish to be alone, for quiet periods of     1     (reflect) can lead to personal improvement. However, as we live in social groups, close friendships are     2     (benefit) to humans. Generally speaking, close friendship has “three fruits”: they may comfort the heart, advise the head, and help us achieve the goals we set for     3     (we).

The first fruit of friendship is the peace that comes from having someone with     4     we can share our joy, sadness, success and failure. Here, friendship has     5     double advantage—happiness takes on a greater meaning and a trouble shared becomes a trouble halved.

The second fruit of friendship is better understanding and judgment that are achieved through conversations     6     well meaning and wise friends. If we     7     (guide) only by our own feelings, our judgments may be one-sided.

The third fruit of friendship is the help that a friend may offer in many different ways. There are so many things in life that can only be achieved with the help of friends. They can help us achieve     8     we want during life and, perhaps, even after death.

Finally, it should be pointed out that     9     (enjoy) the company of a crowd is not the same as being with friends. Friends should be carefully chosen and relationships carefully developed. Only in this way can we better walk the “path of life” with the support, advice and help from our     10     (trust) friends.

If you have kids, join a mom’s group, or sign your child up for classes where you’ll naturally meet other parents. It is also a wise choice to make friends with people you work with.     4    .

文章大意:这是一篇说明文,文章主要介绍了作者严重真正的朋友应该具备的三种品质。

10 . Friendship is very important to me.    1     . In order to develop good friendships, I will always value these qualities in good friends and try to measure myself against these standards.

A good friend should be humorous. Nothing makes spending time together more fun than a friend who makes you laugh. My best friend is a funny girl. I feel happy when I listen to her talking. We laugh at the funny scenes in films, we laugh at each other’s silly mistakes,     2    . No true friendship can grow unless the people involved are able to laugh together.

A close friend should also be trustworthy.     3    . Whenever I feel low, my best friend has a way to break through my tears, and she will not let my secret out. She was the one I turned to when I got a low mark in Maths, when I lost the game in the school sports meeting, and when I had a big argument with my parents.

4    . A good friend must be able to tell you the truth not only when you are right, but also when you are wrong. Without this, the friendship will only ever exist on the surface and never develop a deeper meaning. In fact, I am glad that my friend can always point out what I have done wrong. I might be upset at first, but when I realize that she is like a mirror which honestly reflects my mistakes, I have to admit that this friendship makes me a better person.

5    . A friendship where both parties have all of these qualities will surely be a long-lasting relationship. It will enrich the lives of both friends.

A.A true friend should be honest.
B.A true friend will have all three of these qualities.
C.and we laugh at ourselves as well.
D.A true friend has to be someone you can trust with your secrets.
E.So what is trust between friends.
F.and we’re hardly out of each other’s sight.
G.There are certain qualities that are very important in a friend.
