Why do we eat so much?
One reason is buffet lunches—they need no explanation. Business dinners that last for hours also encourage people to eat too much. Dinner parties with friends are also culprits, as being in a good mood gives you an appetite. Eating too quickly because you are busy can also be a problem. It takes 20 minutes for the brain to receive a warning of overeating, so wolfing lunch in 10 minutes is not a good idea. Finally, skipping meals due to work pressure can lead to binge-eating in the evening.
What’s wrong about overeating?
“Taking in half the food that your stomach can contain is enough for you to survive. Eating too much places a burden on your organs and causes many health problems,” heath education expert Hong Shaoguang said.
Health risks:
Obesity: Countless scientific studies have proved that obesity causes heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, arteriosclerosis and other complications.
Gastropathy: Overeating can cause severe indigestion even damage the gastrointestinal tract.
Fatigue: Overeating slows brain reactions and accelerates the brain’s aging process.
Cancer: Japanese scientists have found that overeating can switch off a gene that combats cancer.
Dementia: Japanese experts have found that 30 to 40 percent of senile dementia patients overate when they were younger.

Even many adults who do not fit the clinic definition of obesity are still overweight, and a large percentage are looking for the best ways to lose weight.
Reducing pounds largely comes down to the two-sided factors of diet and exercise. Not carrying out the first one enough, and not getting enough of the second one, ends up giving the individual a recipe for being overweight.
Advising someone to eat less and exercise more might be the easiest advice possible, but it’s also, partially,an oversimplification.Dieting has more to do with the types of food you eat than how much you eat.Reduce the amount of red meat in your diet.If you don’t want to eliminate red meat altogether, choose cuts of meat with less fat content.Limit your intake of salt and starches. If you’ve got to have potato chips alongside your sandwich at lunch, choose the baked potato chips that contain less fat than the deep-fried chips. You might find you’re really not sacrificing that much in terms of taste.
A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, egg whites, fish and nonfat dairy products will certainly aid in the mission of losing weight.Drink more water and less sugary drinks. If you have to have a soda,a diet soda is a better option, but seltzer is an even better choice than that.
It’s important—if not always easy—to make sure you get at least some physical activity each and every day.If your feet won’t allow for a regular jogging regimen, then make sure you take lots of walks.Next time you need to mail a letter, walk to the mailbox instead of driving.Try to work in a daily walk in your neighborhood.

It’s essential to eat blueberries daily to get the benefits. Blueberries improve brain tissue by depressing inflammation and not allowing oxidative stress to impair brain functioning, “It has to be a regular input of flavonoids,” says Mary Ann Lila, director of the Plants for Humant North Carolina State University. Analyzing data from more than 400,000 people between ages 18 to 85, the researchers found that consuming one to two drinks four or more times per week-an amount considered healthy by current guidelines-increases the risk of early death by 20 percent, compared with drinking three times a week or less. The increased risk of death was consistent across age groups.
"It used to seem like having one or two drinks per day was no big deal, and there even have been some studies suggesting it can improve health,” said first author Sarah M. Hartz. “But now we know that even the lightest daily drinkers have an increased death risk. ”
Although some earlier studies have linked light drinking to improvements in cardiovascular(心血管的)health, Hartz said the new study shows that those potential gains are outweighed by other risks. Her team evaluated heart disease risk and cancer risk and found that although in some cases, drinking alcohol may reduce risk of heart-related problems, daily drinking increased cancer risk and, as a result, mortality risk.
The new study reviewed data from more than 700 studies around the world and concluded that the safest level of drinking is none. The Washington University team analysis focused on light drinkers: those who consumed only one or two drinks a day. The study focused on two large groups of people in the United States: 340,668 participants, aged 18 to 85, in the National Health Interview Survey, and another 93,653 individuals, aged 40 to 60 who were treated as outpatients(门诊病人)at Veterans Administration clinics.
Hartz thought that some doctors could recommend that people with family histories of heart problems have a drink from time to time, but in families with a history of cancer, physicians had better recommend quitting drinking.

So is the face’s ability to send emotional signals, whether through an unconscious reddening of face or a false smile. People spend much of their waking lives, in the office and the courtroom as well as the bar and the bedroom, reading faces, for signs of attraction, trust and cheat. They also spend plenty of time trying to dissimulate.
Technology is rapidly catching up with the human ability to read faces. In America, facial recognition is used by churches to track prayers’ attendance; in Britain, by shopkeepers to spot past thieves. This year Welsh police used it to arrest a suspect outside a football game. In China, it verifies the identities of ride-hailing (网约车) drivers, permits tourists to enter attractions and lets people pay for things with a smile. Apple’s new iPhone is expected to use it to unlock the home screen.
Compared with human skills, such applications might expand steadily in scale. Some breakthroughs, such as flight or the Internet, obviously transform human abilities; facial recognition seems merely to encode them. Although faces are unique to individuals, they are also public, so technology does not, at first sight, intrude (侵扰) on something that is private. And yet the ability to record, store and analyze images of faces cheaply, quickly and on a vast scale promises one day to bring about major changes to our understanding of privacy, fairness and trust.
Start with privacy. One big difference between faces and other biometric (计量生物学的) data, such as fingerprints, is that they work at a distance. Anyone with a phone can take a picture for facial-recognition programs to use. FindFace, an app in Russia, compares snaps of strangers with pictures on VKontakte, a social network, and can identify people with a 70% accuracy (精确程度) rate. Even if private firms are unable to join the dots between images and identity, the state often can. Photographs of half of America’s adult population are stored in databases that can be used by the FBI. Law-enforcement agencies now have a powerful weapon in their ability to track criminals, but at enormous potential cost to citizens’ privacy.
