Going green seems to be fad (时尚) for a lot of people these days. Whether that is good or bad, we can’t really say, but for the two of us, going green is not a fad but a lifestyle.

On April 22, 2011, we decided to go green every single day for an entire (全部的，完整的) year. This meant doing 365 different green things, and it also meant challenging ourselves to go green beyond easy things. Rather than recycle and reduce our energy, we had to think of 365 different green things to do and this was not an easy task.

With the idea of going green every single day for a year, Our Green Year started. My wife and I decided to educate people about how they could go green in their lives and hoped we could show people all the green things that could be done to help the environment. We wanted to push the message that every little bit helps.

Over the course of Our Green Year, we completely changed our lifestyle. We now shop at organic (有机的) stores. We eat less meat, choosing green food. We have greatly reduced our buying we don’t need. We have given away half of what we owned through websites. Our home is kept clean by vinegar (醋) and lemon juice, with no chemical cleaners (化学清洁剂). We make our own butter (黄油), enjoying the smell of home-made fresh bread. In our home office, anyone caught doing something ungreen might be punished.

Our minds have been changed by Our Green Year. We are thankful for the chance to have been able to go green and educate others. We believe that we do have the power to change things and help our planet.

Hobbies are something we enjoy doing in our free time for fun. It is often the case that we first become interested in something, and then we practise it ourselves. When we often do it or practise it for fun, it becomes our hobby.

Almost everyone has some kind of hobby. The choice of hobbies is different from person to person. It depends on one's own interests and jobs. People who sit at a desk all day long like to develop active hobbies while people like sports players like to take up quiet hobbies. Everyone should do something for a change so as to keep a balance between work and play.

People can choose hobbies that are very popular and easy to develop, such as watching TV, reading, window-shopping, going to the movies and so on. These hobbies need no special training. They can also choose hobbies that are not so easy to develop, such as painting, playing musical instruments, taking part in sports, etc. These hobbies need special training and talents.

Most people take up one hobby or another for relaxation while others, such as old people, have hobbies for killing time. However, students have to study. They have to finish a lot of homework, to take many exams and to fight for their future. But as the saying goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." Students need hobbies to refresh themselves in order to have better performances in their studies.

Have you ever had the strange feeling that you were being watched? You turned around and, sure enough, someone was looking right at you!

Parapsychologists (灵学家) say that humans have a natural ability to sense when someone is looking at them. To research whether such a “sixth sense” really exists, Robert Baker, a psychologist (心理学家) at the University of Kentucky, did two experiments(实验).

In the first one, Baker sat behind unknowing people in public places and stared（盯着） at the backs of their heads for 5 to 15 minutes. The subjects（受试者）were eating, drinking, reading, studying, watching TV, or working at a computer. Baker made sure that the people could not tell that he was sitting behind them during those periods. Later, when he questioned the subjects, almost all of them said they had no sense that someone was staring at them.

For the second experiment, Baker told the subjects that they would be stared at from time to time from behind in a laboratory setting. The people had to write down when they felt they were being stared at and when they weren’t. Baker found that the subjects were no better at telling when they were stared at and when they weren’t.

Baker concludes that people do not have the ability to sense when they’re being stared at. If people doubt the outcome of his two experiments, said Baker, “I suggest they repeat the experiments and see for themselves.”

The novel coronavirus kept us home for months, and it's not gone yet. It will end, of course. But it has taught us to take a second look at our habits and to live better. Here are some tips for staying healthy.

Keep a strong body

We all know that a strong body is the key to fight the virus. How can we keep one? Do more exercise and eat a balanced diet. Drink more water and go to bed before 11 p.m.

Develop different hobbies

Some people might find that staying home is boring. Developing different hobbies can help you have fun. You can learn painting or calligraphy (书法), chess or swimming. Hobbies can help you stay positive even in hard times.

Learn more about science

You might have read stories that say garlic (蒜) can kill the novel coronavirus. This has been proved to be not true. Learning more about science can help us tell facts apart from rumors (谣言). It will help us develop our critical thinking skills and stay calm when facing the unknown.

To love and to be loved

Many people lost family members during the novel coronavirus outbreak. We should care about the people around us. Take a step back when you argue(争吵) with someone. Make a small gift or cook a meal for your family on special days.
