Being too slow to pack up a schoolbag or missing books creates a problem for us students. To solve this problem, we invented a smart schoolbag called “Zhi An Qi”.
We wanted to make our schoolbag easy to use. With a single click, it can show which books inside and which ones haven’t been added according to our daily plans.
To scan(扫描)many books at a time we researched available technologies, which we found, didn’t meet our needs. However, What the librarian was doing interested us. Using a machine to scan a number of books, he could see the returned books on the computer right away. What he used was radio frequency identification(RFID,射频识别)! We were overjoyed and quickly made a plan. Soon everyone got his task. With the whole team’s work, we designed the basic functions(功能)of the smart schoolbag and successfully applied for a patent(专利).
Only making a model didn’t satisfy us. What we wanted was to turn it into a real product. To this end, we began writing business plans and communicating with businessmen. In the next step, we will continue to improve it and make it possible for different sizes of bags.
“Of course, the process was quite difficult, as it was our first time to develop a product,” said one team member. “But if you keep going, you will find that all the storms will pass, and finally all the efforts will bring you success.”

During the Song Dynasty, doctors needed to show they understood meridians (经络) — paths of energy running through the body.
If you were the one to take the exam, you would be asked to show how you would treat symptoms on a life-sized model covered in wax (蜡). Under the wax, the model would be made of bronze (铜), filled with water, and covered in holes running along the meridian paths.
You would need to place an acupuncture needle (针灸用的针) into the correct part of a meridian to pass the exam. If you got it right, the needle would go straight through he hole, and water would pour out of the model. If you picked the wrong spot, the needle would hit the bronze model and you failed.
The exams wanted to make sure all young doctors knew how to treat patients hitting the same correct acupuncture points.
The first “bronze man” acupuncture model was made in 1026 by one of the great doctors named Wang Weiyi. Wang also wrote a book that was used across the country to teach how to use the model. Now you can see a copy of one of these bronze men in China’s National Museum.

And suddenly I jumped out of the closet and screamed, "Happy Birthday! "As someone who’ s had a lot of practice maintaining a long-distance friendship, I thought I'd share some tips with you.
●Video chat Talking to your friends often keeps the friendship going! If the phone call doesn't always include a deep conversation, that’s fine. Sometimes friendship is about knowing that someone’ s on the other line.
●Keep sharing everything Spare no details, no matter how insignificant they seem. It's a lot easier to pretend your best friend is there with you if you share the same information you would share in person.
●Be there for them Here's the deal: Life happens. While you probably won't be able to be there for your friend as much as you used to, it is worth it to lose an hour of sleep when they need help.
●Space is also OK People need space, and that’s fine. If the friendship is strong enough, going a little while without talking won't hurt.
●Presents! This is a fun one and a must. It's always the thought that counts. It doesn't have to be a lot, but it will let them know you are thinking about them.
●Be ready for growth Realize that people change and that your friends won't stay the same no matter how much you want them to. Though your friend might start to seem more and more like a different person, criticism won 't strengthen your friendship. You’ re changing too.

The word “robot” itself comes from a play written in 1920 by Karel Capek. In the play, people create robots to do some everyday tasks.
Today, most robots don’t look human. Modern robots take many forms and are good at many things, from sweeping the floors in your home to working in factories. They are even exploring the surface of the moon. But there is an interesting irony(讽刺) in the world of robotics which describes a surprising problem: What humans find easy is extremely complicated for a robot. However, what humans find difficult is pretty easy for a robot. For example, picking up clothes in a messy room is simple for people. But that kind of chore is very hard for a robot. Another example is the game of chess. People might find it difficult to win the game of chess all the time. But robots like Alpha-Go can be programmed to play it very well.
This is because robots are very good at doing things in controlled environments. However, moving through a room filled with random(随机的) objects is hard for robots, along with picking up objects of different shapes and sizes without damaging them. In short, it is very difficult for them to deal with certain types of variables.
It turns out that one of the most difficult things to improve in robots is their ability to control objects. Luckily, great progress is being made in the development of robots. On the one hand, exciting developments in making human-like hands and legs are underway. On the other hand, the biggest progress might result from using virtual learning(虚拟学习) to “teach” robots through computer simulations(模拟). In this way, robots can “guess” what to do without an order when they meet unfamiliar things in the real world.
Soon, robots may be able to do those things that humans find simple. That means big changes in what robots can do and how they can help us with daily tasks. Robots might make movies a reality.
1. What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?A.To give an example. |
B.To present the topic. |
C.To explain what robots are. |
D.To show how robots develop. |
A.Playing chess. |
B.Washing the dishes. |
C.Making cars in factories. |
D.Gathering up clothes in a mess. |
A.They will cause further problems for people. |
B.They will deal with new things depend on orders. |
C.They can hardly develop until they look like human. |
D.They can benefit people more by making improvements. |

You are right. It is not always easy to keep a conversation going in English. You might not be sure about what to say. Or maybe you are afraid that your pronunciation is not good.
First, remember the importance of listening. Listen to the other person carefully. So that you can ask a follow-up question. For example, let's say the other person tells you, "I just got back from a trip to Canada." You can follow up with a question using Who, What, Where, When, Why, or How: Where did you go in Canada? What was your favorite place there? How was the food there? If you want to keep a conversation going, it's a good idea to ask questions that cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”. If the other person asks you a “yes” or “no” question, try to give a longer answer to help keep the conversation going. For example, a friend might ask, “Hey, have you seen the new Star Wars movie?” You could just answer, “No, I haven't.” Or, you could say more. You could answer, “No, but I plan to see it soon. How about you?”
Do not worry about your pronunciation. If your pronunciation is a little different, the other person will still understand your message if you try speaking slowly and clearly. When you're travelling in an English-speaking country and have some free time, be brave and speak in English with someone who does not look too busy. You may make a new friend.
OK, that's it. We would like to hear from you. Please understand that we cannot answer all of the questions our listeners send us.

You may know about "junk food" like French fries. But do you know about "junk sleep"?
Recently, a British survey found that electronic products in teenagers' bedrooms are affecting their sleep.
The survey was done among 1 000 British kids aged 12 to 16. It found that 30 percent of them got just 4 to 7 hours sleep every day. But experts say they need 8 to 9 hours.
Almost a quarter of the kids said they fell asleep more than once a week while watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.
"This is very worrying," said Dr Chris Idzikowski, a British expert. "We call it 'junk sleep'. It means you don't get enough sleep and the quality of the sleep is bad too. If you don't get good rest, you don't perform well in school the next day." The survey found that 40 percent of the kids felt tired each day, with girls aged 15 to 16 feeling the worst.
Nearly all the teenagers have a phone, MP4 or TV in their bedroom. And around two-thirds of them have all three.
