A 14-year-old boy from     1     was described as a hero yesterday after he saved the life of a woman in another country.

Dean Bluey, from Texas, was a school boy who has much     2     in computer. One day, he was playing games on the Internet, he suddenly received a message     3     “Help! Pain! Help!” “The message was from Finland, thousands of miles away from America.”

Dean discovered that the sender was a student     4     Tarja, who was alone in a university library. She was ill. What was     5    , there was no phone around her. Her only way of     6     the world was by email. Dean got in touch with the local police immediately. Then an ambulance（救护车） rushed to the library.     7    , she was still alive and was sent to the hospital quickly.

“I’m glad she’s OK.” Dean said. He felt happy and     8     of himself.

4 . Last Saturday, Du Juan came to a park with her red chair and tools as usual. She put a sign saying “________ Haircuts” on the ground. Then a man, about 60 years old, came and sat down.

Du Juan took the tools in her hands and began to work. They talked ________ like old friends. Du Juan spoke of some funny things in her life. The old man recalled his old days and shared his present life with her. He said that he was going to ________ his son’s graduation ceremony the next Tuesday. Twenty minutes later, “OK, done,” said Du Juan. The old man looked at himself in a mirror. “I look good. Thank you!” he said.

So far Du Juan has ________ 30 such free haircuts to people around the city. All began because of an illness. It ________ her ever thick hair grow thin terribly. After that, she didn’t dare to have her hair cut until a professional barber (理发师) appeared. “He talked with me and didn’t treat me ________ a patient. I felt cared about and less lonely. He changed my appearance and more importantly, he changed me,” Du Juan said.

“I learned the haircut ________ and later became a barber. I enjoyed listening to people’s stories of sadness and happiness, ” she added. During her spare time, she ________ gave people free haircuts, ________ made them feel the way she had felt that day. In 2018, she ________ the Red Chair Project to help more people. “I can’t fix their problems, but I can help them feel less lonely for a moment,” she said.

Du Juan believes simple acts of ________, such as a free haircut, can make a difference. “The way you show up in the world is important,” she said.

8 . Young Heroes for the Planet

Nowadays, people around the world are working to help the planet. Check out how the four teenagers made a difference.

“I have important news for you, honey,” Dad said one evening. He looked at Mom and said, “We’re moving to Africa and will stay there for three months to help others! Isn’t that a(n)     1     act?”

After hearing it, I choked(噎住) on the apple piece because my teacher always told me the place was terrible.

“Yes! Go to Africa!” Mom added. “I plan to help the poor children by teaching them to read and write, and Dad will help in the old people’s home, and you, young lady,” she     2     to me, “will help me teach. Won’t this event challenge you and bring you fun?”

“Fun? No.” I couldn’t help     3     how it would be fun. If I went, I would spend three whole months living in a terrible condition!

“Hey, honey,” Mom showed me some pictures on her phone. “Those poor children are all at your age.” The photos of the poor children     4     me a lot. “They look so small!” I gasped (倒抽气). “ Are you sure they’re at my age?”
