1 . It was nine on a cold winter night. I hurried to go home from work on my motorbike.

At the last crossing, while I was     1     (wait) for the green light, I saw an old man walking toward me. He     2     (stop) me and I felt a little nervous. The old man said     3     (slow), “Excuse me. Could you please help me?” I looked at him up and down. He looked about 70 years old.

The old man took out a 10-yuan bill and said to me,“You see the old lady over there? She is selling baked (烤) sweet potatoes. Could you just take     4     money and buy one from her?” He pointed at an old lady selling something about fifty     5     (meter) away in the corner.

“But why don’t you go and buy it     6    (you)?” I was puzzled (迷惑的). The old man continued, “That old lady is my wife and it’s her     7     (one) day to sell baked sweet potatoes. Just now I called her. She told me that there was only one sweet potato left and she wouldn’t go home     8     all the sweet potatoes were sold out. But I know she can’t stand the cold because her legs hurt. I’m very worried     9     her.”

At that time, I understood why the old man asked me to buy his     10     (wife) sweet potato. I felt really warm and moved. Without taking the money, I rode to the old lady quickly and bought the last one. As I waved goodbye to the old man, I could see him standing there with a thankful smile.

To be a volunteer is really a wonderful experience for me. Four years ago, I ______ a club with the name of Helping Others.

Soon after that, I began to do many things to help those who needed ______. For example, I often helped old people cross the roads, bought some food for ______ children and did small acts for our neighbors ______ need.

Today is the International Coastal Clean-up Day. It is only 20 minutes' ride from our house to the sea. 5 . Craig Kielburger was born in Canada in 1982. When he was twelve, he read a story in the   Toronto   Star newspaper about a poor boy.The boy was killed because he fought for the rights of children. And from reading the story he knew many children in some countries couldn’t go to school. So he and his friends started the Free the Children. The organization helps to develop the education in Kenya, India, China and other countries. Today, they have built more than 700 schools and school rooms in these countries. They have also provided clean water, health care to more than one million people around the world.

One day, Tom was walking home when he suddenly noticed a young man sitting on the bridge railing (栏杆). He was going to jump into the river to kill himself.

“Hey, young! What are you doing? Are you going to jump? ” Tom asked.

“ ▲ ” the young man answered. His voice had pain in it, but Tom could tell he didn’t really want to do this. Tom tried to draw his attention. “You have any kids?” Then, the young man pulled up a picture of his daughter on his mobile phone.

“Try to think how your daughter will live on without her dad at a young age.” Tom said. His heart was beating fast, but he stayed calm. By doing so, Tom learned about the young man’s trouble.

“I am having a hard time,” the young man said. “I can’t make any money, I am hungry. And I can’t live without heroin(海洛因).”By this time, Tom had walked closer to him. He made the young man believe that he cared if he jumped into the river. Finally, the young man turned, took Tom’s hand and climbed down.

Soon, the police drove the young man away. Tom has never got his name. But he always remembers the last words the young man said to him. “Thank you ! And you really are a hero to me.”

When I graduated from university, I decided to make my life a difference. I became a volunteer_______and was sent to Ghana (加纳). So,_________a group of helpful young volunteers, I went on my journey. I was very_______this great chance.

The schools there were quite poor. The students had to walk miles to_______their schools. They had lots of work at home. Though they had_______days, these children were joyful.

This was my_________time living abroad in a different culture. I had to get used to the_______conditions. There was no electricity, running water, phone or the Internet. 9 . A woman who won Tmall’s Double Eleven Festival Prize has given away most of her prizes to a charity to help find lost children.

It was the 10th Double Eleven Festival, an Alibaba’s online shopping day in China. To celebrate it, Alibaba’s Tmall held a sweepstake（抽奖）on Weibo. 75 million people took part in it. ①According to the rules, the winner would be able to spend one hundred million yuan showing his/ her love for someone.

The winner named @ Pie star was a woman born in the 1990s who lives in the city of Hangzhou. She spent a little to show her love for her family. She really wanted to help the children in trouble. So she gave away the rest to the children’s charity.

“ I want to pass this luck on to more people. ②我希望全世界丢失的孩子能够回到他们的家里。And they can be as lucky as me who is loved and well taken care of, ” she said.

After making the decision on Weibo, she received tens of thousands of likes from people who were moved by her kindness.

Tmall says that it will make sure all of the money will be used for both helping the charity find lost children and protecting the children in the community.

10 . A man and a boy checked into hotel. Later, they went to the hotel restaurant for dinner. The waiters____that the two guests were very quiet and that the boy was unhappy. He seemed to have____interest in his food.
