Jiang Danni is a 24-year-old volunteer from East China. She has volunteered in schools in Lebanon and countries in Africa. Many people have been interested in her videos about her experience.

After leaving university in 2020, Danni     1     to work in Africa for a year and then traveled to seven countries. A primary school in Uganda stopped her. She had a     2     time getting to know the children at the school. She taught children in Grades One to Four. Danni set up different kinds of classes for her students,     3     Chinese language learning, cooking and crafts (手工艺).

Danni also tried to care for the students. While staying at a school in Tanzania, she     4     prepared lunch for 40 children below 5 years old. The school is so far away from town. Danni needed to pass     5     a large forest and fields before taking a bus for more than half an hour to get to the town. She went to the town to buy delicious food for the kids.

In 2022, Danni arrived in Lebanon in Asia and became a volunteer teacher at a school. She taught arts and crafts such as paper cutting and the making of paper ice-cream in class. Her students all worked hard and enjoyed the     6     activities. They would run to give her a hug (拥抱) or small gifts such as a candy     7     Danni arrived at the school. And after school, they would invite her to their homes.

“I got great     8     while being with them. Their smiling faces gave me energy and     9     me to find meaning in volunteer work in different places, ” Danni said. She has decided     10     her dream further to help others as a lifetime career (终身事业).

Old People’s Home and Children’s Home are the most popular     4     for students to volunteer,     5     people there usually need more help.

Peter is a volunteer in Taikang Old People’s Home. He is kind and helpful. He often helps the old people to do some cleaning or     6    . Sometimes he reads newspapers and magazines for those who cannot read by     7    . And they listen to him     8    . “When I help the old people, I feel very happy,” he said.

Zhang Guimei is the headmaster of Huaping High School for Girls, who has been given the title “Role Model of the Times” for     1     girls from poor families. She believes     2     is very important to the girls. She moved to Lijiang to teach in the middle school in Huaping county     3     the age of 17. Once, she got badly ill but had no money. The local people raised money and helped her. “From then on, I told myself that I must do something for those people who helped me,” Zhang said. She was sad when she saw her     4     couldn’t afford (负担得起) to go to school.     5    , a dream appeared in her heart. In 2008, she managed to     6     up Huaping High School for Girls. This is a free school for girls from poor families. When people asked why she     7     so hard, she just said, “I hope these girls can live a     8     life than me.”

With her great efforts, she has     9     more than 1,800 students to universities up to now. As a teacher, Zhang loves the children like they were     10     own. She says, “Love is the key for heart-to-heart communication between teachers and students. The children gave me the honor of a teacher, the consolation (安慰) of being a mother, and the happiness of being a woman. My life is my teaching.”

Last Saturday, our school held an activity about helping others. Our teacher     1     us to do some voluntary work in our school. She also led us to the City Park and the     2     Hospital. It was my     3     time to be a volunteer. I was shy at first. I cleaned up the City Park and     4     up the rubbish in the park. At that time, I found people smiling at me.

That     5     me happy. In the Children’s Hospital, I told some stories and jokes to the sick kids to cheer them up. When I got home, I felt     6     tired but happy. I was glad that I could do something for them.

A librarian in Indonesia called Raden is lending books to local children in an interesting way. Most children there live a poor life, and even their family can’t     1     to buy books for them. Now it is very good news for them. Children can collect the useless     2     to borrow books.

Each weekday, Raden brings books for children in Muntang Village. These books can be exchanged for plastic cups, bags and other waste. She told the     3     that she was helping these children     4     the habit of reading more books. At the same time, she wanted them to know the     5     of protecting the environment.

From 1985 to 2017, Wang Shouqiu had walked over 300,000 km in the mountainous areas ofWanbailin District in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, carrying     1    , newspapers and parcels(包裹) on his back.

Wang, 54, a postman in Taiyuan, spent six days every week sending mail on foot whether it was     2    , snowy or rainy. He     3     a green working suit and carried a bag weighing over 25 kilograms. He started his work at 8 am and     4     returned home at around 8 pm. He has delivered over 600,000 pieces of mail so far.

In August 2017, China Post offered a post car to     5     Wang’s difficulties of mail-sending in countryside areas. “The car helped me save lots of time,” he said. “My work could be finished before 2 pm, which was     6     before.”

However, Wang developed some health problems, so he was     7     to work in the post office instead of sending mail outside in February 2020.

“Someone needs to continue my work,”he said. “At that time, my son was in     8     last year at university. Then we made a     9     to let my son take my place after finishing his studies to serve 10,000 people in the area.”

“Since my childhood, my father has been my role model,”said Wang Yuntian, Wang Shouqiu’s son. “I will follow his way and work just as     10     as him.”

Zhang Lei, a fifteen-year-old boy, is an animal lover. He saved an elephant that was     1    .

On March 13th, 2022, Zhang Lei heard a baby elephant lost     2     mother and the living place. He wanted to save the poor animal. Zhang Lei used his pocket money to help it. A few days     3    , the elephant was sent to a local zoo. The zoo could give it a much     4     place to live in than before. Every weekend, Zhang Lei and his friends visit and     5     the elephant. It grows up healthily there.

Zhang Lei also enjoys     6     time with other animals. He decides to help more animals. Trees are sometimes cut down by people     7     want to make money, so animals lose their homes. Zhang Lei hopes to stop this. Many children have the same     8    . They expect to join him.
