“Make-A-Wish” is one of the world’s most well-known charities. It makes wishes come true for children who have serious illnesses. It gives them hope and joy and     1     (help) them forget about their health problems and have fun.

It all     2     (start) in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. Christopher was a 7-year-old boy who was very sick. He always dreamed of     3     (become) a police officer. Two police officers made his wish come true. They gave Christopher a tour of the city in a police helicopter (直升机)     4     made a real police uniform for him.

There are four kinds of wishes children     5     (probable) have:

I wish to go. Children sometimes hope to travel or go to a concert. I wish to meet. Children sometimes wish to meet     6     (they) favorite actors , singers or players. I wish to be. Some children wish to become teachers, doctors or     7     (policeman). I wish to own. They often would like     8     (have) a computer, a bike or many other things.

Do you want to be a volunteer? David and his classmates wanted to do something meaningful     1     (recent) . Then they came up with a plan to visit the old people’s home. They would like     2     (cheer) the old people up. They hoped the old people would know that people cared about them and wouldn’t feel lonely anymore. On Sunday, David got up early     3     hurried out of his house without eating breakfast. He     4     (ride) to the school Gate and there were already several classmates there.

    5     8:00 a.m., they got on the bus and left for the old people’s home. They all felt     6     (excite) . After they got there, their head teacher Lisa divided (划分) them into two groups. All of us began working. Even nearly 12 o’clock, some were still washing the clothes while others     7     (sweep) the floor.

All of them were busy with their work and they made     8     difference to the old people’s home. “Thanks for changing     9     (we) rooms into new ones,” one of the old people said. After finishing all the     10     (chore), David and his classmates felt very happy that day.

Volunteering can make us understand why we should try to help others. Your acts will truly bring hope and sunshine to others from it.

Last year, 13-year-old Abraham Olagbegi was seriously ill and needed a bone marrow transplant (骨髓移植).     1     (lucky), he had it and his transplant was successful. About a year later, he got better news from Make-A-Wish. The group helps children     2     serious illnesses realize their dreams.

Abraham had an idea and he shared it with his mom. “Mom, I thought about it carefully, and I really want to feed the homeless,” he said. Hearing that, his mom     3     (reply) , “Are you sure, Abraham? You could do a lot.... Are you sure you don’t want a video game?”

Different from other teenagers, Abraham didn’t have     4     (interesting) in video games. He was sure of his wish to feed the homeless. Abraham’s dad thought it was a wonderful idea so he always tried to teach his son about     5     (give). In September, Make-A-Wish helped Abraham organize a day to give out food in Jackson, Mississippi. That day, Abrabam fed about 5 people and that made him     6     (excite).

“When the homeless people get the plates, several of     7     (they) sing to us and thank us,” he said. “I get     8     special feeling when I see the look of joy     9     their     10     (face).” Abraham’s wish didn’t finish. Make-A-Wish will help Abraham keep feeding the homeless every month for a year.

Jane is a kind girl. She always     1     (help) others. She is only ten years old,     2     she has big ideas of helping other kids.

Jane     3    (go) to a winter camp at the age of eight. During her stay in the camp, she visited some kids in the countryside. She was     4     (real) sad and she wanted to help them.

One morning, while Jane walked outside, she saw some     5     (child) selling lemon juice to raise money. Then she came up with     6     excellent idea.

Alzheimer’s patients (阿尔茨海默病患者) forget many things in their lives. It     1     (seem) that no company wants to hire these patients. However, some of them receive     2     invitation to work in a restaurant. And the restaurant has a beautiful name: Forget Me Not Café. In this restaurant, six of the waiters and waitresses have Alzheimer’s illness. Every morning before work starts, they     3     (tell) about how to take orders and serve the dishes. And some volunteers mark the name of each dish     4     a number. In this way, the orders can be remembered more     5     (easy).

“The customers in this restaurant are very nice and kind to us,” said one of them. “I feel happy here, and I’m really     6     (pride) of working as a waitress!”

Working at this restaurant     7     (give) these patients a good chance to connect with society and can help slow the worsening of their Alzheimer.     8     most Alzheimer’s patients are not so lucky. According to a recent report, more than ten     9     (million) people in China have Alzheimer. The restaurant hopes to bring     10     (much) attention to this group!

One day, on the way to school, Tom saw a man in need of help at the bus stop, but he had d    1     in communicating with others because he couldn’t hear or speak. Tom knows some sign language and he offered to help. He communicated with the man with some g    2     and found out that he wanted to visit a friend in hospital. Tom showed him the way and the man thanked him with a big smile on his face. A    3     Tom was late for school, he still felt proud and happy.
