Mario Taylor is 36. Today he saved a 4-year-old girl.

“Please let me catch     1     (she). That’s all I could say. I was thinking about my daughter, ” said Mario.

Mario is a bus     2     (drive). This afternoon, when he was returning home from work at about 2 pm, he heard someone shouting from a     3     (build) on Bridge Street.

He saw a girl on top of a second-floor window air conditioning unit. He ran     4     (quick) under the window.

The video shows that Mario shouted to the girl, and tried     5     (make) her go back into her apartment. Suddenly the girl fell. But Mario caught her in his arms.

“I picked her up and     6     (carry) her, and she just kept looking around. She never closed her eyes, ” said Mario.

Then the girl was taken       7     the hospital.

“He’s my hero, ” said the     8     (girl) aunt, Cathy Taylor, “He really helped our family today.”

The police said her mother was     9     (watch) the other child in the apartment and did not see the girl standing outside.

Mario was injured but he will be OK soon.

His 6-year-old daughter called her father a hero, too. “Dad always carries me,     10     he was able to catch her,” said Mary.

Visiting an amusement park can be great fun. But for     1     (thousand) of special-needs people, the loud noises and fast-moving rides can be scary.

Gordon Hartman, a businessman from San Antonio, knows what that’s like. His daughter Morgan has autism (自闭症). It is an illness that influence people’s     2     (develop) of language and social skills.

One day, Hartman found that many kids looked Morgan in fear when she     3     (play) with them in the amusement park. That broke the     4     (father) heart. Hartman was used to solving problems,     5     he decided to create an amusement park. He thought a good park should allow people to have fun     6     (complete). Then the amusement called Morgan’s Wonderland was born.

It is     7     first theme park of its kind in the world. All the activities are safe enough and     8     (enjoy) for people with special needs. Many amusement parks don’t allow people to bring food. But Morgan’s Wonderland encourages families     9     (bring) picnics—it’s important because these kids often need special diets.

“This park is for everybody, and we put special-needs people first,” Hartman said. “And it’s more popular     10     I thought.”

At the school where Ko Cheuk-kiu works, there are neither school bells ringing nor students running around the playground. “You look good today. Shall we review the text together?” After greeting her student Hei Hei, Ko, in a light blue uniform, t    1     on her tablet computer and began to teach at the bedside. Ko is a teacher for the Hong Kong Red Cross Hospital Schools, which provides education services for hospitalized children.

“Teaching children in a hospital, I was excited.” Ko recalled explaining that she first learned about the school from a newspaper report. Founded     2     1954, the Hong Kong Red Cross Hospital Schools provided services in only one public medical institution. Its services are mainly made up of three f    3    —general services, blood transfusion services, and home teaching programs.

“Every morning, the first thing we do is to c    4     on each student in the ward and see if they are well.” Ko says. The s    5     school cares for students aged from 6 to 18. Most teachers need to teach both primary and secondary school age students. Depending on the s    6    , teachers will carry out small group or one-on-one bedside teaching. Teachers in hospitals have to meet students with different medical conditions and face all kinds of     7     (challenge) every day, but Ko regards these experiences as training, which have led her to have a d    8     understanding of life than before.

Over the years, Ko has     9     (receive) a lot of greeting cards from parents and students. Looking at these warm w    10     of encouragement, she silently sends her best wishes to the students. “I hope they can soon recover and go back to school.” she says.

Oxfam International, usually known as Oxfam, is one of the biggest charities. Oxfam’s ideas are simple: everybody in the world must have the right to live, f    1     to keep them healthy, clean water to drink and medical care. All these ideas are connected.

Oxfam began its work d    2     World War Ⅱ. At that time the Greeks didn’t have enough to eat because of the war. People in Oxford d    3     to give money and food to people in Greece. So the name Oxfam comes from two w    4    —Oxford and Famine (饥荒).

After the war Oxfam joined other organizations to form Oxfam International. Nowadays this charity helps people in over ninety c    5     in Africa, South America and Asia.

Oxfam works in two ways. Firstly, it o    6     help in emergencies (紧急事件). In 2010 there was a big earthquake in Haiti. Over 200,000 people died and many more l    7     their homes. Doctors and volunteers provided medical help and gave out food and brought clean water to the villages. The s    8     way Oxfam works is to help people prevent future disasters. Oxfam has started a project called GROW, which helps farmers produce more and better food.

But how does Oxfam pay for it all? In order to raise money, this charity has run charity shops, where you can buy things that people d    9    , like clothes, toys and food. Another way to get money is with “ambassadors”, famous people who do voluntary work for charities and collect money. Ambassadors have different skills b    10     the message they send is the same—we should do what we can to help people in need!
